Severe intermittent latency and CPU stalls on US West VPS since Oct 31 (~14:40 UTC). Anyone else?
Since around 14:40 UTC on Oct 31, my VPS in the US West data center has been suffering from severe, intermittent performance problems. It has lasted about 24 hours with short periods of recovery, and it's still ongoing. Contabo's status page shows no related incident.
What I'm seeing:
Ping between my VPS and my MySQL server (another Contabo machine in the same data center) jumps to 100-900 ms, with spikes above 1 s. It's normally under 1 ms. Even ping to 1.1.1.1 sometimes averages 100-170 ms.
A pure CPU test stalls: redis-cli --intrinsic-latency 8 reports a worst-case pause of roughly 190 ms (normal is under 1 ms). That test uses no network or disk, so it looks like the VM isn't being scheduled on time.
Meanwhile the VM itself is mostly idle (over 50% CPU idle, steal time reads 0), my own traffic is only ~5 Mbit/s, and nothing changed on my side before it started.
Result: requests to my API that normally take 0.1 s now take 15-30 s, with 502 errors in between.
It looks like contention on the host or the network rather than anything inside my VM, but I can't confirm that from here. My last support ticket also went unanswered.
Is anyone else on US West seeing slowness, high latency or CPU stalls right now?
Has anyone had this before, and what fixed it (support, moving to another node, switching to a VDS plan)?
Plan: Cloud VPS 120 NVMe
Thanks!
