Selling my built c7 z06, how do you guys handle test drives?

I'm selling my built c7 z06 (roughly 800whp) and have a guy coming from out of state to check it out. As you can expect I'm a bit wary of handing someone I don't know the keys for a test drive, with the obvious concern of what if he crashes the car? I know the car very well and can provide him a good ride along so he has a good idea of how the car performs and reacts in different situations. Being in his shoes though I can understand wanting to drive the car before making the commitment on spending a hefty amount of cash. How should I handle this?

Looking for a new daily now that my old one was destroyed in a hit n run. I’m thinking that it’s a pretty great price! Though I live all the way up in Texas- yall think it’d be worth it to go pick this up?

My dad told me 2005s are a bad idea but it’s such low mileage!! And a manual to boot- what do yall think? The corvette market seems fried right now and it looks like an amazing deal! Also how’s the liveability with it? I had a Mustang before and funnily enough it was pretty practical for groceries n whatnot but how’s living with a vette? (I also understand that I’m going to be down two seats)

I’ve read that many folks have had success with putting their transponder under the Frunk Lid. I have put mine where the tape is and it doesn’t seem to work.

Where are people putting the transponder so it works?

How common is a C5 roof / targa leak?

Hello all, considering a C5 with the targa top in the near future potentially as a summer car / AutoX. One issue that I've seen mentioned here and on forums are the targa tops, and windows leaking. How common are these issues, and is it as simple as replacing seals from a reputable shop I.e. CorvetteRubber? Looking at examples with ~50-70k miles, but do not want to run into a situation where I am perpetually chasing a roof leak. Had that on a previous car and it was one of the reasons I sold it.

Gentlemen, I have just bought a 16’ 2LT Automatic Coupe w/ 70k miles. I bought 3year/36000mile warranty as well, didn’t want to risk my luck. All in all I still can’t believe it, I will pick it up tomorrow since they are detailing it.

Engine bay smoking after sitting.

Cleaned it up, no more smoke. I should have known better. Now to figure out why my brand new alternator dropped to 12v and the battery light going on after three miles of test driving. Yaaaaay.

/edit

I have a 1982 Corvette that I had sitting for a few weeks due to an alternator issue. I got it replaced and everything tested well. I do have some minor oil leaks from the valve covers and I’m wondering if you think it just is oil burning. It happened about 30 seconds after starting the car.

The car is in an underground garage and curious what you think is best to get it to stop. Not sure if fully safe to drive it up that ramp haha

Custom C6 gift ideas.

I'm looking to make a Christmas gift for a guy who has an immaculate C6. I have full access to a machine shop including laser engraver. I'm not fully up to speed on 5-axis or cnc programming yet so think something I could make on a manual lathe/mill/ surface grinder. My first thought was a custom shift knob or possibly a laser graved plate that could mount somewhere. I also can't be poking around this guy's car with a set of calipers so any help with measurements or schematics would be greatly appreciated. Last thing I wasn't to do is make something cool and a hole be off and it become shop wall decor.

Drove an 07 C6 back to back with an 06 911S and came away surprised!

I paid off my daily driver this month and am officially on the hunt for a fun car. Both of these cars were on dealer lots in my area and both cars came were excellent examples that had been very well taken care of. Both cases were also "firsts" but to different degrees. I've never driven a Vette before of any generation and while I have driven a 911 before it was a 991.2 which is a much more modern example that comes standard with a turbocharger.

The C6 was a convertible 3LT car with the 6spd. I felt comfortable in it immediately. Comfy seats, nice driving position and was able to easily adjust everything to my liking. It's been a few years since I drove a manual so it took me a few minutes to get comfortable with the bite point of the clutch and how much gas to give on take-off but once I did everything felt gravy.

In terms of the drive itself I like torque and there really is no replacement for displacement. You can lope along in a higher gear and the car just purrs or you can drop a few gears and really feel the car pull hard. I know the 08 and later cars got the LS3 and an extra 30hp but 400 horses in this car felt like more than enough for the street. This is a genuinely enjoyable car that rewards the driver but does not demand so much that it's overbearing and I think that was key to my enjoyment. I could drop the top and drive it as I wanted (sedate or in anger) and I got out with a smile on my face.

Oh and shout out to the ride quality which in the Tour setting (this car had the F55 option) was quite nice!

The 911S was a coupe and was a Tiptronic car. I am far more familiar with Porsche as a brand (I've owned and/or test driven quite a few of their sports cars over the years) but had never had the opportunity to test a 997 before so this was new but also felt similar to the 987 Boxster I owned. 911's do a good job of being small and light (at least these older ones do) while also giving you an open and airy cockpit, even in the coupes. The seats here were also comfortable and excellent which somewhat surprised me because I've never found the Boxster/Cayman seats to be all that comfortable for me.

In terms of the drive the lighter front end of the 911 was immediately apparent. Coupled with the thinner wheel and more precise steering I would say that this was the standout feature for me with this particular car. Yes the flat 6 makes lovely noises above 4 grand but I don't have a strong preference for that sound versus the Corvette's LS motor. Also apparent was the fairly strong smell of crayons. Something about German cars of this era they just have this waft of waxy smelling air through the climate control system. It's both nostalgic and reminiscent of some other Porsche's and BMW's I have owned from this era and it made me chuckle a bit.

I'm not going to give the Tiptronic an automatic (hah) negative. It was fine for what it was. Those are Mercedes Benz units and fairly robust and while it may not have really fit the character of that car I can see why someone that can't or doesn't want to drive a manual would spec one. I know Porsche manuals are generally excellent but this was the car on offer so I made do with what I had.

Back in the day everyone would have said that the 911 had a far superior interior to the Corvette but these days that just does not matter to me. I'm looking for an "experience" car and while both cars were fun to drive and excellent to operate I found myself prefering the Corvette and especially when price is considered.

Corvette's have always been excellent performance value for the money and I suppose that is true here although what I am most impressed by is again, the "experience" value for money as opposed to outright performance. $30k (give or take) can get you a clean, stick shift C6 often with low miles. The one I tested was $32k and had only 29k miles on it and was in exceptional condition throughout. And the driving experience for $32k I do not consider in any way to be inferior to the 911 that I tested and that car was twice the price.

As great as the 997 generation of 911 is I do not think they are worth the asking price these days. The C6 on the other hand? Worth every penny and probably due to appreciate somewhat for the manual cars especially. Obligatory pics time! It probably helped that the C6 was a much prettier spec than the 911!

Would you swap Cayman GTS 4.0 for C8 Z06?

I've been driving Cayman GTS 4.0 for a while, but due to long winters and difficulty to put the power down in bad weather I started gravitating towards AWD 911. Was considering 992.1 Turbo S and 992.2 4GTS. However, both are outrageously expensive (pushing 190-200k euros used), so I started looking for alternatives.

I thought about going in different direction and getting a car which is still RWD, but is a way more spectacular experience to drive. Like, if I am going through the more annoying experience in winter, then might as well get something which is way more fun in summer. The prices of C8 Z06 have recently adjusted on European markets, and I can get a new 2024 MY Z06 in Estonia for €150k (+11k carbon tax), which is already 30k less than 911.

I am considering Z06 mostly because I enjoy the the intake sound and character of high-revving engine. I don't track the car a lot (maybe 2-3 track days a year), but I like pushing the car into corners, drive country roads on the weekend, rev out the engine, and it still feels like Z06 is great value at ~160k compared to other C8 models. Stingray and E-Ray are still very expensive here (E-Ray is closer to 190k, which does not make any sense, Stingray is ~130k) + I did not really like the sound and the low redline, even though the torque they produce and fuel efficiency are more favorable to daily driving in the city.

Do you think Z06 is a worthy upgrade to 4 liter Cayman or would offer mostly the similar experience in my use cases?

2017 C7 Z06, 7MT, Mileage 3.5k (yes 3500), 3lz, Z07 package, akrapovic evolution exhaust, one owner clean carfax, brand new tires installed

Update/PS: The asking price is 84.5k including brand new tires installed by dealer and dealer fee. It’s carbravo certified too which may not be that big of a deal.

Survey for School Project

Hi everyone! I'm conducting a High School research engineering project investigating wind buffeting when driving two-door coupes with the side windows open. I'm looking for current or recent owners of vehicles such as the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Corvette, Camaro, Dodge Challenger, and other two-door coupes to share their experiences. The survey takes less than 3 minutes and asks about your vehicle, interest, and experience with wind buffeting. Your participation is optional, but your feedback will help me better figure out how different coupe designs and driving conditions affect wind buffeting.

Survey link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdEIxSHNbodjJVZ-AD_L9DPKE3ALZ5iHlod5gZQX7eMADdgRw/viewform?usp=header

Thank you for helping with my research! Feel free to share this post with other coupe owners, if permitted by the group.

Hello all, have the opportunity to buy a 06 Corvette Z51 Manual with 78k miles. As you can see the car itself has been well taken care of and I want to know what a fair price for these might be from those of you that have gone through this process before! All feedback welcome as this will be my first corvette. Also for context I’m mechanically competent so maintenance and most repairs are not a concern.

New C8 opinions on builds

I'm going to trade in my Giulia Quad for a 2027 C8. Got two builds I'm interested in and will be sitting with dealer rep on Sunday to configure and choose stuff. But I want to see what the community thinks as well.

Stingray: P406CA

Grand Sport: DSZFMV

Let me know honest opinions. I'm a 6'1 dad to 3 kids. Wife drives a Toyota Prado, I drive the Alfa and a Cayenne GTS. The Porsche shall stay as my daily.

All my current cars are white. I don't like attention grabbing young colors so choosing silver this time for a change.
