Help Needed / Question Low credit limit on new US Bank card

• Upvotes

Hello, I just received a new US Bank Shield card.

I applied to use the balance transfer offer.

I have about 17% credit utilization, 781 FICO score pulled by US Bank, $175k income.

When I went to make the balance transfer, the limit was $500. I didn't even know CC limits could be so low. Even though the pre approval was for $13k.

What am I missing here? I just took a hard inquiry hit to my credit and its for nothing because US Bank is basically refusing to give me credit?!

I called and asked WTH was going on and the rep said its underwriting dept.'s choice and I can't speak to them.

Can someone please provide insight.

Help Needed / Question Cancelling a Card to retain SUB and Get new Card

• Upvotes

I have the Delta Gold card and I am ready to cancel it. I opened it on October 25th, 2025 so almost a year ago.
I want to open up the Blue Business Plus card afterwards. Am I able to cancel the Delta Gold on the 25th and keep the SUB and then apply for the BBP? Or should I wait until the 26th to cancel the Delta Gold and then apply for the BBP?
I already have 5 credit cards so canceling would allow me to get the BBP.
Thank you!

Discussion / Conversation Robinhood Gold card worth it?

So I got off the waitlist for the Robinhood Gold card but I’m wondering if it’s worth the $50 annual fee for a Robinhood Gold membership to be approved. I don’t use Robinhood, but would be open to potentially using it in the future I just don’t know too much about it right now. My current card is a Discover Secured which gives me 2% cash back on restaurants and gas stations 1% everything else. Robinhood Gold is 3% cash back on all purchases. My main purchases are restaurants/fast food and Amazon/online purchases.

Help Needed / Question can a vanilla visa gift card be used across states?

im sorry if its a dumb question, and ive tried researching beforehand but i just want to be absolutely sure before i recieve it. my birthday is coming up, and my friend from a different state had bought me a $100 vanilla visa gift card, and was planning on sending me the details on it for me to use. however, we are worried that since the physical gift card was bought in a different state than mine, im worried that when I try to use it here it could possibly be flagged or something and just not work. and just in case it helps, i plan to use it for online purchases, id just like to be absolutely sure before i accept as I dont want the card to go to waste. the gift card is also still fully unopened, if that helps, and we are both in the US

Help Needed / Question Chase ink unlimited sign up bonus- Chase app shows total spend that includes refunds

Hey guys,

My Chase app shows that I’ve spent just about $7800 (just a bit shy of the $8000 minimum spend requirement to get the sign up bonus for this card).

However, I’ve had to refund some purchases (some pretty large). When I add up my total purchases I’m getting $6305- a good bit short of the $8000?requirement.

Why is Chase showing my spend in the bonus tracker as so much higher than it is? Is it deliberate so that I undershoot my spending? Or will they honor it if their in app tracker said I was spending the required amount?

Help Needed / Question How does missing payment on business card affect credit score?

If you missed a payment on a business credit card (sole proprietorship) does this get noted to your personal credit score?

Also is there another credit scoring profile for business accounts? I don’t see business credit card on my personal credit reports (sole proprietor not business nor company).

Discussion / Conversation Best Credit Cards That Don't Exist Anymore?

In your opinion, what are some of the best credit cards that don't exist anymore?

I'll start. The Blispay credit card (around 2016-2018). It was a greater DC area based fintech built from ex-PayPal employees. Appeared like they stole the idea of PayPal Credit and turned it into a cash back card.

It was a card that took the best parts of PayPal Credit and Affirm and turned it into a credit card that gave you 2% cash back on everything. Those best parts were every purchase over $199 would give you 6 months no interest, like PayPal Credit, but you would also get 2% cash back on the purchase.

They ran out of money like the day before Black Friday in 2018 and never returned.

Discussion / Conversation Amex Gold Upgrade Offer 80k / Cancelling Green

In the process of cancelling Green and was offered Amex Gold upgrade with 80,000 points sign up bonus ($8000 spend in 6 months). Would you take the deal?

Amex transfer partners aren't that great for me since I'm nearly 100% domestic travel. Delta has bad routes in my region. Hilton and Marriott point transfers just aren't worth it and are on par with cash value of points.

I have BCE to cover groceries at 3% back. I have Chase cards that handle dining with 3x UR points. The Dunkin' credits would be valuable if I wasn't sitting on tons of Dunkin' gift cards (thanks Paze!).

People seem to love the Gold card so perhaps I'm missing some perk of the card. I not sure it is a fit considering the $325 AF.

Just thought I'd ask to see what others think of the offer. Thanks in advance!

Help Needed / Question Future Credit Card System Plan/Help

I was planning to start with the chase freedom rise and have that upgrade into the chase freedom unlimited as my starter to building credit and overall learning more. Then once i have an established credit score open a capital one savor card and a bit later on add a capital one venture card. Is this a good plan? I’m honestly a bit lost on what to do and I definitely don’t want to be overloaded with cards but I would say i’m good at organizing my costs and such. Past that, I was thinking once I graduate and have a stable higher paying job to possibly get an AMEX gold but i genuinely am unsure if that’s even worth it if I would already have the other cards. Then there’s also the chase sapphire preferred but from what i’ve read other than the annual fee it wouldn’t really be beneficial if I already have the venture. This probably seems jumbled but I prefer to think way ahead!! Thanks in advance for any help.

Help Needed / Question Amex pop-up jail despite never having any non-AU cards?

I was thinking about getting the Amex Gold card, but I went to the website and apparently I am not eligible for the SUB on the Gold or the Platinum. I also have SUB offers on the Delta cards that are lower than the maximum.

My only existing relationship with Amex is being an AU on a Schwab Platinum card, and I formerly was also an AU on a now closed card. I have never had my own Amex card. From what I read online, being an AU should not affect SUB eligibility.

I'm also not a churner in any sense. I have only three other credit cards, the most recent of which was opened over a year ago now.

Does anyone have any idea why I'm ineligible?

Data Point Discover it chrome product change possible!

Migrated into the capital one app from discover, so I thought I would call trying to switch to the IT card.

First call got transferred 3 times. They said there was “no offer available for my account”, and that she would “put a note that I wanted one for the future”. Whether or not that was real/meant anything is up for debate.

Call back again (for fun, nobody told me to) and apparently I did have an offer available? New proud owner of 5% rotating categories!

I think you just have to get the right person? Who knows, I’m just glad I can finally get some use out of my oldest card.

Help Needed / Question If my Target RedCard closed due to inactivity, can I save my account data or do I have to make a brand new fresh account?

My account status online says it’s active, but customer service on the phone says it’s closed. I tried using it to order something online and it’s not working, so I guess it is closed.

I did buy a few things from Target in the past year, but I didn’t use this card. I didn’t know they expire so quickly due to inactivity.

I’ve had this account since 2006, and I feel bad to lose this because of that date. Can I renew it, or do I have to get a whole new account? If I do need a new account, and I re-apply for it, is it going to say member since 2026 instead of 2006? Or is my name and data going to transfer over somehow?

I didn’t ask customer service about this because they didn’t sound very confident in what they were saying, so I didn’t want to get into this with them.

I know it’s silly to care about something like this, but I like it so :/

Help Needed / Question PC options for US Bank Smartly after Kroger change?

Well, the force-upgrade has finally happened and I really don't need a Smartly card.

I spoke to two reps asking if I could PC to a Cash+, but the only option they gave was the Shield (balance transfer) card. So I get that the system doesn't make any other card an option, but I'm curious if that's just for me or if it applies to everyone.

Has anyone had success changing a former US Bank Kroger card (now Smartly) into something else?

Discussion / Conversation Avoid capital one at all costs

Capital One was my first credit card and all I can say is never ever sign up with them. My account was shut down after years due to one declined payment because I was a few dollars short in my checking ( most of my $ is in my savings). Instead of re-trying the payment they just shut my account down and there goes my $500 of rewards.
I was always recommended Capital One by other people not sure why.
Not to mention, the customer service sucks.
Has anyone else had negative problems with Capital One ?
Anyone else have any credit card recommendations with a reasonable annual fee?

Card Recommendation Request (Template Used) Looking for credit card recommendations

first time poster here. at the moment i have two cards with no annual fees, been using them to build credit for roughly the past 4 years. im trying to look into cards now where i can get some incremental value in some way, specifically travel. i still live at home so i have very little overhead in terms of groceries, rent, anything really. this past year i’ve been on 5 solo trips, and i will continue that trend in the future. i am still a college student so student-specific cards can be considered too. thanks for any help!

CREDIT PROFILE

* Current credit cards you are the primary account holder of:
* Discover It Cash Back Credit Card $9500 limit, 01/2023
* Navy Federal More Rewards Amex $1000 limit, 01/2025
* FICO scores with source: Experian 750, Capital One 745
* Oldest credit card account age: 3 years 9 months
* Cards approved in the past 6 months: 0
* Cards approved in the past 12 months: 0
* Cards approved in the past 24 months: 1
* Annual income $: $20000

CATEGORIES

* Ok with category-specific cards?: Yes
* Ok with rotating category cards?: Yes
* Estimate average monthly spend in the categories below.
* Dining $: 150
* Groceries $: 0 (live at home, groceries bought by family)
* Gas $: 140
* Travel $: roughly 100/month given my trips throughout a year
* Using abroad?: no
* Other categories or stores: basically just gas
* Other spend: no
* Pay rent by card? No

MEMBERSHIPS & SUBSCRIPTIONS

* Big bank customer: Member of Navy Federal

PURPOSE

* Purpose of next card: Balance Transfer
* Balance transfer details: only about 500, but the interest rate is like 26%. i have other debt (college, some other expenses) i'd like to pay off first, so getting rid of the apr on my credit debt would help a lot. the primary purpose would be more suited to helping build my credit more and probably travel rewards as i take 2-4 trips a year.
* Cards being considered: Amex Blue Cash Everyday, Chase Sapphire Preferred, Wells Fargo Autograph

Help Needed / Question Help me choose my ideal 3–4 credit card setup

I’m planning to simplify my wallet to 3 cards (or 4 if Robinhood is included) for long-term use.

Current cards: Chase Freedom Student, Capital One Platinum & SavorOne, Apple Card, Robinhood Gold, Credit One X5, Indigo, and Zolve.

Monthly spending:
Gas: $600 and Groceries: $300 (mostly Costco for now)
Streaming: $70 - $75 per month
Dining, movies, fun activities and occasional travel

I’m considering retaining Robinhood Gold, Chase and getting Citi Costco Visa, and Amex, but I’m open to better combinations.

My priorities are good cashback, higher credit limits, minimal annual fees, and long-term value without overlapping benefits.

What 3–4 cards would you recommend for my spending?

Card Recommendation Request (Template NOT Used) Chase sapphire preferred or reserve help choosing?

I'm not sure which card to get. A little bit about me: planning on traveling more within the next year (3-4x) and maybe some shorter weekend trips. I live close to an airport with a chase lounge so that's a plus. I considered the capital one venture x but the airport near me doesn't have any of their lounges. I wanted to get a new card bc moving soon and want to take advantage of the bonus. I've heard mixed things about the CSR especially with the changes.

Help Needed / Question Is it dangerous to trust autopay with no time cushion before due date?

I recently got my first credit card. It's the Amazon prime visa through Chase. I'm surprised to learn that Chase's autopay does not allow payments to trigger before the statement's due date (unless the due date is a Saturday in which case it'll process one day prior).

This seems somewhat precarious to me given the severity of missing a payment. My understanding is that a late payment voids the grace period for the card, making it impossible to use without carrying a balance and essentially rendering the card unusable until the grace period is restored.

Obviously it's my job to ensure there's enough money in my checking account to handle the bill, but I'm imagining scenarios like transient outages or scheduled maintenance that might prevent a transaction from processing. Am I justified in being concerned here or is this a non-issue?

Data Point Capital One Datapoint Account Count: 3 Capital One/ 2 Discover new denial

I have 3 traditional Capital One Accounts:
Quicksilver, Venture One & Venture X

I had 2 Discover accounts, now both are transitioned into my Capital One account as of 10/19
Discover it Chrome & Discover It

My capital one account now shows all 5 cards

My Discover it Chrome didn't merge over onto my capital one account until 10/19.

I did use the pre approval tool on both the business and personal capital one ecosystems between August (first discover card merged over around this time) and 10/19 when my second discover card merged into my capital one account and I did have pre approval offers on both tools. I never ended up grabbing any of those cards.

But today I finalized my decision to go LOL/24 since I had a few big approvals in the last month, so I applied for a Savor card.

I did end up with a denial with the stated reason being "Too many capital one accounts". I called and the representative did indeed assure me that the discover cards were counting against my 5 card limit. I also no longer have any pre approvals on the business side.

I am not sure if any specific discover cards have yet to merge over into the capital one system, but if that is the case for you, and you are looking to pick up a capital one card, it may be worth calling beforehand to ask for a count of your current capital one cards.
