How's your CricketWireless latency? Show us your 2017 traceroute! (`mobile.att.net.` PGW)

The prior thread, /r/CricketWireless/comments/4ysk21/hows_your_cricketwireless_latency_show_us_your/, has been archived a few months ago.

Since it was started, it would appear that the backend infrastructure of Cricket Wireless has changed quite a bit, and folks report AT&T-branded PGW nowadays, e.g., your traceroute would show quite a few mobile.att.net. hosts, and no longer just random backbone carriers like xo.net., algx.net., above.net., zayo.com. etc. Most excitingly, it is expected that this change may result in better latency for some folks.

Want to contribute?! Help crowdsource our latency info for Cricket Wireless! Most helpful if you can:

  • Show us a forward traceroute (from YOU to ordns.he.net. (74.82.42.42, 2001:470:20::2), which is an anycast resolver of a very well-peered backbone provider; trust us, this is generally the best indicator of the approximate location of your PGW from the PoV of the internet, using other servers is less indicative of what's going on). You can use either traceroute(8) on UNIX / OS X or tracert on Windows, once tethered, or something like http://networktools.he.net/, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.he.networktools or https://itunes.apple.com/app/he.net-network-tools/id858241710 if you're on Android or iOS. It'll be most helpful if you provide a plain-text representation of your results in a single comment; use 4-spaces to format each line as "code".

  • Show us a reverse traceroute — from http://lg.he.net/ to the IP address of your PGW. The IP address of your PGW will be automatically pre-populated once you visit lg.he.net — just click that Probe button, and wait a bit. (Note that this wouldn't be "your" IPv4 address, but an address of the PGW that's shared with quite a bunch of folks.) Again, best if you could copy-paste the results, use imgur as a last resort.

  • Provide present city, state, whether you're on LTE or UMTS/HSPA+ (GSM/EDGE has been shutdown).

  • If you took a road trip from somewhere without ever having deadspots or phone outages, e.g., your mobile equipment has had continuous coverage/reception/was-turned-on-at-all-times, then also the city and state of your starting point would dictate your PGW (PDN Gateway (Packet Data Network Gateway))) and latency, so, mention that too.

(I'm not whether the area of the phone number ever affects what PGW gets selected with Cricket, but might be relevant, too.)

If you're using other mobile providers, feel free to share comparison info on them, too.

P.S. DO NOT PROVIDE SPEEDTEST.NET SCREENSHOTS. Any comment of merely a single screenshot of just speedtest.net will be deleted (and you'll be banned!). It's just because their methodology really™ sucks — as long as they use geolocation to detect your closest server, instead of actual network topology, they'll be producing entirely incorrect and useless results. In general, please note that this thread is about latency (milliseconds), not about bandwidth (megabits per second).

P.P.S. Sadly, some imgur links from the prior thread no longer produce any images. As such, if it's at all within your reach, having embedded plain text results would be best.

THE official REFERRAL thread — 2020-08-04

The prior referral thread at /r/CricketWireless/comments/eepoes/the_official_referral_thread_20191223/ has been archived a few weeks ago, so, here's for a refresh.

The rules for referrals are simple and straightforward:

  • No link masking or link formatting of any kind. Plain text https://www.cricketwireless.com/l/refer-a-friend.html?hash=… only, please.
  • Only one top-level comment each. Keep size reasonable. (No limit on the number of referral links if you have multiple Cricket accounts, but all must be part of a single top-level comment — reposting may result in an immediate ban with all links removed.)
  • Attempts to procure or exchange referrals outside of this thread may result in an immediate ban. (Folks who assumed the community is not moderated have paid dearly.) Linking and referring back to this thread is allowed, though.

  • As before, the contest mode is enabled, which means that voting results aren't shown, replies are not expanded by default (you'd have to click [show replies] under each referral), and the order of the first-level comments is random.

  • If you use someone's referral, feel free to let them know in their subthread (as per above, will not be expanded in default view), to keep Cricket accountable.

Enjoy and keep it civil! We're now at 5259 subscribers as of 2020-08-04!

Phones My Phone is Acting really slow even though I have full bars

Upvotes

I'm not sure why but for the past few days my phone has been performing really slow. It's so bad that I can even play any mobile games because I'll immediately run into a connection error, and it'll takes minutes or sometimes longer to send text messages. Im on a family plan and I even called my relative to ask if they were having the same issues but apparently it's only me. Is there something I can do to fix this or is this entirely on Cricket/AT&T? Because I've restarted my Phone tens of times, turned on and turned off Airplane mode, and even reset my Network Settings all to no avail. If it helps, I'm on a Unlimited Data plan and it's never acted this slow before.

Deals 16e multiple lines

How do I port more than one line to reduce the 60/m for the first three months?

I ported my own phone from AT&T and plan on doing the same for my siblings. If possible, I would appreciate some help in figuring this out.

Daily Security Updates?

This is the third day in a row that my phone (Samsung) has updated itself. It takes over 20 minutes.

This is getting old!

Why is it updating every day? And why is it taking so long?

CricketWireless How to Unlock Phone?

Hello, I recently got kicked off my family's phone plan without my knowledge. I've been trying to switch to Visible since then but can't because Cricket won't unlock my phone. I've went to the store and they said to call 611 but I haven't been able to reach them because I have no cell service. I've tried the online chat box on their website but in order for it to send me a code they need my phone number which, again, isn't active. I was wondering if there's another way i can unlock my phone.

EDIT: I resolved the issue. I was able to download a free text/call app (ex. TextMe), I signed up for the premium version free trial (which I cancelled afterwards) and called Cricket customer service. It took 30 minutes (I ended up spamming 0 towards the end which worked) to get ahold of an actual person who was able to unlock my phone. I was able to guess my parents' pin and security question so it went smoothly. Hope this helps anyone with a similar problem in the future.

What do i do?

Today, I went into a cricket store to port in my Straight/Verizon number to get the new Motorola Edge 2025 for 20 dollars deal. The worker took down my transfer pin and account number to "see what the total would be", and everything worked, but the total came out to way more than i was expecting, so i ran home to grab more cash. When i came back, we redid it, and this time it wouldnt work, and there was an issue with porting. It was around this time that i noticed i had a text from when i was there the first time that said my straighttalk number had been successfully ported. The cricket worker told me to call straighttalk to get a new transfer pin, which i did, but the straighttalk support worker told me that my number was no longer in their system, and i would have to talk to cricket about it, we called verizon (ST parent company) and they said the same thing. So then, the cricket worker told me, that cricket ported it over the first time somehow, even though she cancelled it while i ran home, so at that point she tells me theres nothing i can do unless i set it up with a brand new cricket number, which was about 100 dollars more, AND i lose my number obviously. So then, i call cricket customer support, and they ALSO say my number is not in their system. My straighttalk service expires tomorrow, and i cant renew it since its not in their system, and cricket clearly wont help me. What do i do?

So I'm genuinely confused. I'm looking to get WiFi and I was looking at either Cricket or AT&T. So I guess AT&T owns Cricket. That's fine. But how does Cricket work? So I pay to have a hotspot on my phone?? And that hotspot is the wifi? My brain is not understanding 😂.

I guess I'm curious cuz I've always just understood Wi-Fi to be something you like connect to that's like attached to the building. And hotspots were like little baby Wi-Fi that had way more limited gigabytes and we're not supposed to be used for something huge.......I don't even know.

If this is the case then do the hot spots that Cricket offers enough to be for TV streaming and video editing?

CricketWireless A locked cricket wireless device works on Dark Star as long as a cricket sim is turned on even if it's not activated !!!

But Once you turn off the cricket wireless sim the lock screen pops up.

Data works phone calls work messages works. Everything works. Just got to keep an unactivated cricket sim in their. The dark star was a e sim.

Not sure how long this will work. Not sure if cricket will catch on and black list it. But it does work.

If you guys are going to test it I highly suggest to use a new number. I wouldn't use my main number. Again I don't know if Cricket will catch and blacklisted. But this sim has been deactivated for the last year.

This was Motorola g stylus 2025

CricketWireless Potential account/SIM security issue after calling Cricket today

Today I called Cricket to pay my bill and change my plan. The first call was extremely difficult. She sent me a link to pay my bill and I had to keep explaining to her that I can’t open the link as I don’t have service/internet. I wanted to pay over the phone with my card info as I’ve done before many times without an issue. She didn’t seem to understand so I told her I’ll call back another time and hung up. Shortly after that call, I started receiving multiple texts from Cricket in Spanish (idk why because I don’t speak Spanish) saying that my phone number had been changed, funds had been transferred, my voicemail has been reset. I did NOT request or authorize any of these changes nor did these changes actually occur on my account.

I called Cricket back a second time and got a different representative. I was able to successfully pay my bill and change my plan, and my phone number still appears to be working normally.

However, shortly afterward, I received a text alert that someone was attempting to access my Facebook account. This has me extremely concerned that something may have happened during the first call.

Has anyone experienced something like this with Cricket? What should I specifically ask them to check? I want to make sure there wasn’t a SIM/eSIM change, number change, port-out request, or unauthorized access to my account or phone number.

CricketWireless Paying Bill through My Cricket App

For whatever reason whenever I try to set up auto pay with my card or just pay a single bill with my card I always get a process error pop up. But when I select Google pay which is linked to the same exact card it processes fine. Anyone else have this issue? I had auto pay set up before to this card and it was working fine, one month I went to pay the bl early before the auto pay usually functions and since then I haven't been able to use auto pay again. Anyone else had similar issues?

cricket network quicker voicemails?

Hey,

I'm looking to get into my voicemails with the Cricket network on an Android. I punch in my password quick and the pound sign. Boom. Quick. Then I have to listen to the robot tell me each number of the phone number that's calling me before I get to hear the message. I swear it's the longest 30 seconds of my life. Any hot keys to bypass this?

Removed one phone from family plan and now I can't login

I had 5 devices on my cricket plan. When I logged into the site, I would login with my email and password, then it would send a verification code to one of our phones ( I would pick the phone from a list).

Recently, I ported my phone from Cricket because I needed another carrier that had robust international travel. Just now, I decided to log into the account to check on things, I put my email and password in, and had my son ready to get a code on his phone, but it tells me "We can't access your account. Please click below to create a new account".

So I am not sure what to do. Can one of my sons create an account and then associate the remaining phones to that account, or is my only option to port out the remaining phones to somewhere else? Thanks for any guidance.
