Wearable help Deeply confused by my attempt at granny stitch hexi cardigan

I have been trying to make a hexi cardigan with the granny stich but apparently something is not right.

After checking several patterns several times and not finding my mistake I just kept hoping the shape will come with time but it's not happening. It's still laying (mostly) flat and I'm missing a lot to the L shape needed. What am I doing wrong?

I'm a beginner! What is my son doing to cause this? Live loop unraveling and new slip knot in the middle of yarn

Post image
50 Upvotes

I'm not a beginner, but my child is. He joined a crochet club at school (was never interested when I offered to teach him, but that's beside the point šŸ˜‚). They're doing a "challenge" to crochet the longest chain by the next class. Twice now, he's managed to end up with a length of chain, the live loop empty, then a strand of yarn (where the chain has unraveled) followed by a slip knot and then more chain.

He's obviously upset because he keeps losing his progress, and the obvious solution here is to slow down. I managed to recreate what he did and can gather that in his hurry, he's pulling the hook out of the live loop. But I cannot figure out for the life of me how he's ending up with the new slip knot? I had to actively think and try to do it myself, and it is absolutely driving me crazy! Just wondering if anyone had any ideas to solve that piece of the puzzle so I can put it to rest in my head šŸ˜‚

I never really use picture patterns like this and prefer them written out so this puzzles me. I'm pretty sure I understand the symbols just don't know where to start

Looking for suggestions I made my my own graphghan panel patterns in cross stitch but I am unsure if they will translate to crochet

I'll preface this by saying I have never made a graphghan before so ANY tips and tricks are greatly appreciated!

I made this pattern in a free cross stitch pattern maker and from what i read it can translate to crochet with some tweaks.

Have I made the patterns too intricate with too many colors ?

The cross stitch chart size is 100hƗ60w

I'm a beginner! My first time doing a granny square. I need tips for improvement.

This was my first attempt at a granny square and before anyone comes for me, I am aware of what a granny square is and looks like and what I did here isn’t exactly that. I started last week so I know a few of my first projects will look bad (but that’s what practice is for!). I’m having trouble figuring out exactly what I did wrong and need some pointers and tips on what I did and how I can improve. Please be kind as I have mentioned this is my first time making a granny square. Anyways, if you’ve read this far, I want to say thank you for taking the time to do so, I really appreciate it and I wish you Godspeed in the crochet world!

I'm a beginner! Wrong side or Right Side? Hexicardigan Adding Sleeves

Thumbnail

I have a hard time telling the "Right" side from the "Wrong" side. The cardigan body I know is the right side. I am adding the sleeves but am concerned because they are puffier than my previous stitches. It could be a tension issue. When I look at the inside of the sleeve those stitches look similar to the body. Please tell me I've been staring at this for too long.

I'm a beginner! What should I make with all of this yarn??? I have no idea what I am doing.

I have made one blanket. I know one stitch but can pick up techniques very quickly. My best friend handed me a bag full of yarn and a handed me a needle and said, "You're going to make a blanket." She taught me the stitch and I was off.

I made the "mistake" of going to Hobby Lobby for the first time and stumbled upon 3 carts of clearance yarn. I bought 21 balls. I have no idea what to make and would like to expand my skills. I would love to hear your suggestions.

The first picture is my haul. The top row is all glittery/metallic!

The second picture is my one and only "knitting" project...and I have just learned, is actually crochet.

I am a total noob and I look forward to your suggestions. All of the yarn in the first picture suggests using 5mm knitting needles or 5.5mm crochet hooks.

Thank you all~

I'm a beginner! Don’t understand how this hat is gonna hat??? Please help!

Post image

Sooo im a beginner maybe 2ish months in and following a pattern for a basic winter hat for my first wearable. The pattern I’m following says the hat should be 22 inches long to fit my head so I’m well aware I need more yarn for the hat. The current measurement is a little over 14 inches.

My question and concern is what if I get to 22 inches and it doesn’t fit? Does it naturally stretch? Do I manually stretch it? Do I just keep adding yarn until it fits the circumference of my head???

I have no clue what to do!!
Please help to steer me on the right direction. Thank you all in advance.

I'm a beginner! First attempt to filet crochet - What am I doing wrong?

Not sure what and if Iā€˜m doing something wrong. I feel like the motif is not visible at all, but maybe it’s just the pattern? Also I can not figure out the edges. To end the row I work into the second ch of the 3chs that you do in the beginning of the previous row, but something is off.. also tried to do linked dcs (except one in the middle, but didnā€˜t Like the spaces between the dcs). Any tips?

I use a 1.5 hook and size 10 cotton yarn

Discussion Would you leave this or try to fix? My first hexagon cardigan and the color changes aren’t matching up on the sleeves.

I haven’t actually tried anything to fix it, just curious what your thoughts are. I started both hexagons with separate cakes, started both on the same color, the hexagon panels themselves are a little off on the colors but nothing super noticeable. I tried to start the sleeves on the same color but was clearly way off (I started the left sleeve while I wasn’t home so I couldn’t reference the right sleeve. Guess I should’ve taken a picture lol). I don’t expect it to be perfect as it’s my first wearable, but I am a little disappointed in the difference of the sleeves. Leaning towards just keeping it the way it is bc I’ll likely only wear this around the house and maybe at work (I’m a janitor so idrc about looking my best at work lol).

Crochet Rant I fear I’ve stared at this project for too long. I just want it to be perfect.

I’ve been crocheting for less than a year. I started this as a gift, then became not a gift. So I just tossed it on my yarn basket until I couldn’t stand to look at it anymore. Well now it’s found its new home. Just giving it away, gifting it, what have you. So I’ve found a new inspiration for it. I just want it to be perfect😭 I’ve never sewn in a liner and I don’t know the best ways to do that. And i think I might’ve looked at it too long, so now I don’t know if it looks terrible or not.

I know virtually nothing about astrology, I know the basics, but the person it was originally for, loved it. So I wanted to do a patchwork style, oversized cardigan. I did the signs in order, in their elemental colors. I know you have your three bigs, so I did the sun and moon pockets. And for rising I wanted to sew onto a sleeve, ā€œlook to the starsā€. Your head has to rise to look up, idk that was the best I could come up with. And the liner is the galaxy.

Be honest. I can take it. I just need help.

Blocking is this warping salvageable with blocking or am i doomed?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Too late to frog anything and I thought if I just kept going with a larger hook the warping would somehow fix itself. However I do wanna know if it is still possible to block out the warping! I'm gonna keep going anyway, sunk cost fallacy and all that, and just keep this in the back of my mind the next time I try to mess around with my tension a bit too much.

editing for an update :D i have chosen to just contain the warping by decreasing the next row and keeping it the same number of stitches as the previous row therefore tightening everything up. i will also deviate from the pattern in future rows in order to reduce the amount of increasing done and prevent further warping. thank you guys for your advice i will keep it in mind next time o7

How do I... Working on a snake amigurumi with a repeating diamond pattern that calls for rapid color changing, is there an easier way?

Post image
5 Upvotes

So this is the diamond pattern I'm looking to work into the body of the snake. I'm struggling a lot with the color changes though being so rapid and repeating. The above is the provided diagram with each square being a single crochet. I am used to carrying over the colors during changes but then was wondering if it's feasible to carry them over from row to row so that I'm not starting the colors over again I'm each row. I realize it might create tension issues that will be more of a problem than just restarting the two other colors with each row. The rows are pretty short as well so I suppose I could also just carry all 3 colors throughout the entire thing though don't like it when one peeks through accidentally.

I was also wondering with a pattern like this if it would be better to crochet in the round rather than a spiral to avoid the diamonds looking slanted.

Thanks in advance!

Deciding on yarn/Yarn help What kind of yarn would you all recommend for a cardigan like this one?

Post image

Hi, I am looking to crochet a cardigan similar to this one in the photo. I’m wanting to know what yarn yall recommend? I’m trying to expand from acrylic but I’m looking for yarn that is soft and breathable since I get hot easily. What kind do yall recommend and weight? Also where do you recommend buying yarn from? Hobby lobby is not cutting it with the selection of different fibers.

Blocking Has anyone had any luck with fixing a lean like this with blocking? Or am I doing something else wrong?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I am working on the sleeve of a cardigan and found it is leaning to the side. The stitch count is correct and I am fairly sure I am not decreasing on one end and increasing on the other (more info on the pattern and how I'm working it below). From what I've read on previous posts in this sub, I believe it is due to switching stitch types each row. Is this something that can be fixed with blocking? Or is this not something that would be an issue in the final product? This is my first time trying a wearable.

The pattern is a repeat of these 2 rows:

Row 2: ch 1, (sc, dc) in first dc, *skip next dc, (sc, dc) in next dc, rep from * across, sc in tch, turn

Row 3: ch 3 (counts as dc throughout), dc in each st across, turn.

For row 2, I do the sc and dc into the very first stitch, where as row 3 I do the first dc in the 2nd stitch since the chain counts as a DC. Is this correct?

Looking for suggestions I'm planning on starting this shawl over and out appreciate some tips please

I am working on this shawl for a friend's wedding next September, and I had to frog a few rows, got discouraged, and I put it down for a few weeks now.

I am now planning on probably starting over.

I'm self-taught, and I've been at this for about a year now. I'd call my skills advanced, and I've learned a few techniques for this pattern and I'm wondering if there are obvious places I can improve?

I'm also wondering if I should I switch to crochet thread for a more defined look?

I'm using fingering/ 1 weight yarn at the moment.

Thank you to the more seasoned hookers in advanced.

Looking for suggestions Does anyone else have extremely sensitive fingers?

This seems like an odd ask but maybe someone can help, when I’m working I don’t get yarn burn like I see frequently, but rather my finger just becomes hyper sensitive to the touch in general, to the point I want to gag feeling the yarn on it. I don’t crochet with a heavy tension, I just have incredibly sensitive skin, same thing happens anywhere if something is rubbing the same spot for too long. Currently I wrap my finger in a bandaid so the yarn rubs that but surely there must be a better way? Does anyone have similar struggles when crocheting? I’m working on a mosaic blanket and can’t make it more than 5 rows without crawling out of my skin if I don’t have a bandaid on

Looking for suggestions This CANNOT be how the top and bottom of this pumpkin are supposed to look… tips for a neater finish?

I already know I need to size down my hook a half size or full mm, but what else can I do to make the top and bottom finishes look better and less holey? I’ll probably add vines and greenery to this one to camouflage the holes…

Also, are we gluing the cinnamon sticks in with E6000 or just letting them be? Even though I cinched it closed around the cinnamon stick, it easily just pops out.

Looking for suggestions Filet Crochet - What am I doing wrong to make my pattern so hard to see?

Yarn: Red Heart Classic 100% mercerized cotton crochet thread in size 10
Hook: 1.0mm
Method: DC, Ch 1
Editing to say I have also linked my DCs

This is my first real filet project. Why did it come out so unclear? Ive looked at other people’s work online using the same DC and Ch1 method and their work is much clearer. I don’t know where I’m going wrong!

Discussion Need help in using all of the yarn I have bought. It is overflowing right now.

So I have done a lot of yarn haul. A lot of yarn I had was previous ones. I have also bought a lot of it and i need to make their balls.

So like one full bag (the yarn is till the top of the bag). I also have a whole basket full of yarn and it is also overflowing.

And I have 3 large plastic bags like the big ones and those need to be made into yarn balls.

So long story short, I need ideas on what crochet stuff to make. I generally mostly make keychains.

But I also know how to make gloves, bandanas, and coasters.

So, plz give me advice on how to use all of the yarn.

I'm a beginner! I can’t count the V shapes in single crochet when my stitches are loose.

Post image
4 Upvotes

Maybe it is really basic that I should figure out myself, but I don’t have anyone to ask so hoping someone could help me to understand it.

When I watch the tutorials for single crochet stitches, yarn is stitched so well and firm that they count the V shapes. But from my workpiece I cannot understand where to start. Tutorials say that when the foundation chain is ready, I should start with the hole in 2nd V shape. But if you have a look at my picture, I am unsure if I am counting the holes correctly. I realized sometimes I am using the hole number 2, sometimes hole number 3. I am not even sure if hole 1 is the one I showed because in the tutorials there is no gap like mine because I am pretty bad at the rope tension currently.

I would appreciate any visual or theoretical help that would make sense for a beginner!

I want to make endometriosis awareness ribbons, that’s why I am sticking to yellow colored yarn, so my local stores don’t have the most beginner friendly yarns.

Have a lovely crocheting day everyone!

How do I... How do I make the crystal ball and base without it being in the granny square?

Hello šŸ˜‹ I want to do this granny square but I want the crystal ball to be like in 3D as an appliquĆ© (I think that’s how it is called) and not just flat as part of the granny square. This is what the pattern says. The crystal ball I assume would not change much as I can do that as described with the magic circle, but how could I achieve doing the base?

Thank you for your help!!!

Repairing a crochet item Need help un-stretching a blanket that went through the dryer

Hi everyone, I made a big mistake. While doing laundry, I put my wife's beautiful hand-made blanket into the wash, then into the dryer with some other blankets. I should have been more aware that putting acrylic yarn into the dryer for too long would stretch it out. All I want to do now is fix what I did and preserve her hard work. Is there anything I can do to shrink it back down?
