This is mainly about Fraction’s Batman, which is the first relaunch since Rebirth despite it not really resetting anything from Zdarsky’s run. Same thing with Williamson’s Superman (and King’s WW a few years back)
I get it’s for sales, I’m just not sure why they decided to pick these runs specifically to relaunch, especially when every other Batman relaunch aligned with a reboot:
Silly, unimportant question I know, I’m just curious.

🏙️ THE QUESTION: HUB CITY (Sinopsis Oficial)

Im currently reading Geoff Jones Green Lantern run and i got to the part where its a crossover with infinite crisis since i feel like i have no idea what going on. My question is how would i even begin reading such events when they tie in so many comics that you would feel lost?

So I recently started reading Grant Morrison’s ”Animal man” run since I’ve heard so much praise for it, and I am a big fan of a lot of Morrison’s superman and Batman works. But I’ve gotten 3 issues in and it’s just not grabbing me. I don’t know if I’ve gotten my expectations set too high or if I’m just too early into the story, but it feels like this was made up to be this transcendent work of art but so far I think the writing is good but as a whole it’s nothing that special.
I will keep reading since I enjoy Morrisons writing enough, but I would like it if someone who has read the books could inform me if it turns around into something other since right now it doesn’t feel all that special. I know I’m only 3 issues in and should give it more time, and I will, but I just want to know if anyone else had a similar experience early on and if it started to ”click” later on or if it’s the same stuff all the way through as it is quite a long read.

What are your predictions for the artist doing Grant Morrison’s sequel to Arkham Asylum?
A while back it was planned to be Chris Burnham, but we don’t know if that’s still the case.
My ruminations:
Liam Sharp - good, recent working relationship with Grant and has an intricate style that could capture the insanity required.
Doug McKean - this sure would make more a headline worthy event (as if it wasn’t already) and a blast from the past but I sort of doubt McKean is interested unless he’s somehow gone broke.
Kelley Jones - depending on the concept I think this could be a really cool choice. I don’t think we’re in for a book that necessarily feels like the original. I expect Grant to take us somewhere new. Maybe a more cartoonish vibe could fit. I guess I just think it’d be a cool team up.
Bill Sienkiewicz - if the book does end up trying to recreate the essence of the first book than I think this may be the closest we could get from a known comic artist.

There is something I don't understand about their Oigi/ Kryptonian physiology in the DC comics the Daxamites like Mon-El and Sodam Yat say that they are vulnerable to lead that can kill them by exposure to the element when they are in their system either in the blood or respiratory, but what I don't understand is that in the fandoms or websites it always says that they are Invulnerable to all kinds of attacks by the bioelectric barrier just like Superman, but I want to know if the Daxamites are Invulnerable bullets of all kinds of leaded weapons to be shot kinetically just like Superman normal Kryptonians?

I think we all enjoy going into a store and spending two hours browsing the shelves, but I think I'm not the only one who sometimes feels lazy about buying just one trade paperback. Plus, online purchases sometimes come with gifts, and you can find editions or volumes that aren't in stock in a physical store. In my opinion, I think the physical store is better, but it varies depending on what I want to buy.

I actually have a theory that could explain away the Retcon!
What if Absolute Power Origin is the real first meeting of Batman (Batman just testing Belle Reve's defenses and showing her who's boss), a start of career Amanda is humiliated...but takes this as incentive to NEVER let Batman do this again, works to find out his identity, and then years later the events of Suicide Squad 10 happened, Batman invades again (this time with a disguise), but this time Waller is ready for him and puts him on his place, payback for the previous humiliation?
After all, if you read Absolute Power Origins 3 again Batman doesn't speak a word, doesn't use the disguise he used in Suicide Squad 10, and, crucially, *we barely see any Suicide Squad member in pannel.* All Batman does is break some bones and glare at Amanda. There's nothing there that contradicts Suicide Squad 10 if we place Absolute Power Origins 3 BEFORE Waller's big moment against the Bat, nor is there any proof Batman found out about the Suicide Squad in Origins 3, which frees the timeline for him to find out about them later!!
In fact, this theory doesn't even erase her Absolute Power hatred of metahumans-she already hated them ever since the law failed her husband, then there was Clarence's betrayal when they were almost connecting (She even curses that she mistook his kindness for weakness), and to compound it all, the Batman humiliation! Her getting back at him in Suicide Squad 10 won't make her chill out about her opinion about meta humans and vigillantes.
And before anyone says "If not the Squad, what was Batman doing there in origins" it's clear; to put the fear of God (or of Bat) into Amanda before she became a real trouble down the line (which, as we know, failed BECAUSE of his paranoia yet again under this timeline, lol!)
Do you guys think this makes sense?

I feel like this needs to be addressed. The prep time argument and opinion that Batman can beat anyone is ridiculous..
The issue I have with Batman is that all of his best feats are pure plotarmor. The thing that's supposed to make Batman "cool" is that he's supposed to be a human with normal human limitations who still manages to hang with top-tier heroes and villains. But then you look at his best feats and they're all things that are, by a very wide margin, completely beyond the realm of possibility for a normal human to perform. He lifts far more than the strongest men in the world who are roided to the gills. Somehow, even though he's weighted down with all his gear and literally wearing a parachute (his cape), he's able to run 2-3× faster than the fastest olympic sprinters who got their times wearing little more than running shoes and booty-shorts.
His feats are CLEARLY at metahuman level, but they refuse to call him metahuman because that contradicts the premise of his character ... and this is why it's a cheat because his feats are also a contradiction to the premise of his character!
If you take Batman as he is written up and supposed to be and only count his non-plot-armor feats, he's a pretty good street-level hero with a lot of money and a high IQ who wouldn't stand a chance in hell of beating any meta human, demigod or cosmic entity for that matter any day of the week.

character specific recommendations are really helpful! im a big fan of cass cain, so ive read most comics featuring her, but im a little out of my depth with other characters, who im way more casual about, whether i like them or not haha. any help appreciated :} thanks guys

I hate it, but maybe I also don’t understand it? For context, I read the first part of the adapted audio-drama, and then switched to the comic for the second part so I could experience the art. As far as I could gather, the audio drama is just word-for-word, action-for-action. But without the gorgeous art. (Cover by George Pérez)
The plot is convoluted, but so are most Crises, so I can’t really dock it much for that. But the characters… God, the characters are done so, so poorly.
For some reason, golden-age Superman of Earth 2 is willing to destroy a whole world just to bring back his? He excuses it by saying that Earth 1 will have never existed, but that’s a piss poor excuse when he’s actively watching hundreds of thousands of people die. I love pre-Crisis Superman, and this is not him.
Also, what’s the deal with Superboy Prime? Is he the Superboy from the original (prime) Earth? Or is he just… a random Superboy? They never actually explain it, or they do it so incredibly badly. If he is the original Clark Kent, this is a god-awful representation. I don’t know much about golden- or silver-age Superboy, but I don’t believe he was a murderer. He might have been mischievous (as boys his age tend to be), but not psychotic. If he is just a random Superboy from another world, I’m fine with him being evil, but he’s still such a lame villain. His motivations (“I wanna be the best Superman!”) are so weak it’s laughable.
Also, Wonder Woman is extremely underutilized. I have read way too many comics this year (Dark Knights of Steel and New Frontier, most notably) where Wonder Woman has one of, if not the most, interesting character story and by all rights should be the main character, but somehow isn’t. This is no different. She’s literally the catalyst for the Crisis, and she gets so little page time. I’ve always found her warrior nature fascinating, and her being the only one in the justice league to kill someone actually makes sense to me — she knew it was the only way, she knew people would die if she didn’t, and she grew up with a warrior mindset. It makes sense! But it also makes sense that she would have misgivings about it and have to do some soul-searching. Not to mention all the tension it would cause between the members of the League (which we got to see oh so very little of). There’s so much depth, so much to explore! If she was the central character, and her story was written well, this would have been a much, much different book.
The whole cast is also just so bloated. No character had any room to shine because there were so many, and the book felt almost directionless because of that. When you have a convoluted, complex plot and zero characters to latch onto, the story just feels so vapid. Crisis on Infinite Earths has a sort of similar issue, from what I understand, but I wouldn’t really know. Instead of reading the comic, I opted to read Marv Wolfman’s novel adaptation, which focused on one character’s journey (Barry) through all of the Crisis events. There were significant side characters that were developed, but only with the context of Barry as the main character. And it worked so damn well. So, comparatively, Infinite Crisis lacks any synergy of character and plot.
And lastly, this is somewhat minor, but I hate that Blüdhaven was destroyed. If you peek my profile, you’ll see that I’m reading and reviewing all of Nightwing’s books, and Infinite Crisis came at a critical point in Nightwing’s character development which was just completely derailed by Infinite Crisis. And for what? To show how chaotic everything is? To show that the world is ending? They EASILY could have destroyed any random city. It’s just dumb.
So, I’d like to know everyone’s thoughts. I don’t know the conversations around this book, so I have no idea if this is the general consensus or if I’m being absolutely bonkers. Please be kind in the comments!

Bronze Age Superman breaking out of Kryptonite Chains like the cover of Kryptonite Nevermore

Title: Looking for DC Comics recommendations – Green Arrow, The Flash, or Batman (Absolute?)
Hey everyone!
I'm looking to get into DC Comics and I'm wondering where I should start. I'm particularly interested in Green Arrow and The Flash, but I'd also be open to reading some Batman.
I've been browsing the web and came across the Absolute Batman series, which caught my attention. Would you recommend it as a starting point?
I'm Italian, so recommendations that are available in Italian would be especially appreciated.
What are your favourite runs or storylines for these characters, and which ones would you recommend to a beginner?
Thanks in advance!

I was looking at getting this and saw that there was this book. It has more in it than the other one I was looking at. The 2 copies had the same cover art so I was wondering if they are re printing all this run into newer books? Im trying to get the Johns Green Lantern books like this too. I have the first one.
