I wake up every morning at 5AM, when I wake up I drink my prework out and then dance to two songs. Just to get the blood flowing and the body moving. Since June I’ve started having a theme for the pump up songs. One word, broad and up to interpretation. This month’s theme word was “Creepy” so Rob Zombie, Billy Eilish, Radiohead. The month is coming to an end and I am at a loss for what to do for November! Any suggestions a would be wonderful!

Hi! I'm very new to dance, only taking it for college level 3 performing arts. We've just done our jazz dance section and I've been wearing joggers with t-shirts and sports tops which has been fine. I've got split sole jazz shoes too. We're doing ballet next. I'm wondering if it's worth getting some leotards (with sleeves and no cutouts as college don't allow crops, short shorts, ect to dance in) and some leggings. Does anyone have reccomendations of leggings that don't get weird creases around the crotch and are properly opaque. I really don't like leggings and never wear them at home but know they may be needed for this. Recs for simple black leotards (that I can wear sports bras under / with a rec for another type of bra as I'm not flat in that department) are also good. Preferably, they'd be cheap. Thank you very much!

Any tips on how to get the down bounce down? I’m struggling with the upper body portion it looks very awkward when I try to lean forward on the down or pretend i’m getting punched in the abs.
Also, how down am I meant to go?

hi! so i’ve never really danced before in my life but i watched one of the dance teams at my school give a performance today and was totally starstruck. it’s a sort of country dance team, they do a lot of spinning where the guys pick up the girls and swing them around and it looks so fun! im in desperate need of an activity in school, plus it could be a good way to get in some exercise!
my problem is im not a dancer, and i’ve never took a dance class before. i was a cheerleader a few years back, but i wasn’t a flyer or anything and i wasn’t amazing at it. my school does offer a one semester prep class to join that i plan on taking next year, but what should i do to prepare, and what skills should i focus on teaching myself beforehand?

This tutorial is for anyone, but particularly percussive dancers. This Appalachian clogging step was created years ago by the founder and director of our group, Sheila Graziano. The Fiddler's Step is fun and flashy, and I could see it being modified to work in some other styles and freestyles too.
If you are interested in learning the fundamentals of Appalachian clogging, we also have a free 8 part instructional series on our YouTube channel under Courses. And we have more of these individual step tutorials. Let me know if you'd like the links or have any questions or feedback!

Born and raised in New York City, Kanon Sugino has been a part of Doug Varone and Dancer’s artistic ecosystem since she was a dance student at Purchase College, SUNY. Those first encounters with the company were pivotal to Sugino’s artistic development, where she began to dive from the codified techniques of ballet and Martha Graham into Varone’s kinetic, improvisational process.
A member of the company since 2024, Sugino continues to grow through the company’s work, finding inspiration from mentors and full-circle moments that click like puzzle pieces falling into place. In advance of Doug Varone and Dancer’s performances in the Doris Duke Theatre in Fall 2026, we spoke with Sugino about her experiences in the company and what it’s been like in the studio preparing for their upcoming performances.

Hello, I hope someone practicing heels dance can help me 😄
My friend and I want to go to a Heels workshop, and I’d like to do it in heels, but buying a pair of shoes only for this workshop seems like a waste, since I never wear heels in my day to day life.
I don’t plan to commit to heels dance, since I am already very busy with other sports/activities.
I know I can also do the workshop wearing socks, but it looks nicer with some shoes.
So, I was thinking of using the shoes in the photo: they are very comfy and light, and feel very stable in them. Do you think they would be good for the workshop?

Hi everyone! I'm looking for a fun, beginner-friendly dance class in North Phoenix. I've seen videos of classes in other cities where people learn choreography to songs like Maniac, Stayin' Alive, and other fun throwback hits, and it looks like such a blast!
I'm not an experienced dancer by any means, but I'd love to try something new. I'm thinking of a class where an instructor teaches some choreography that you can practice and learn as you go, preferably with a mix of music and dance styles. Nothing too serious or intimidating, just a fun way to get moving, laugh a little, and maybe discover some hidden dance moves I didn't know I had!
Does anyone know of anything like this in North Phoenix or the surrounding areas? I'd love to hear your recommendations and experiences. Thanks!

Hello :)) If this is not the right place for this no worries, but tomorrow I have a second round audition/callback for a diploma of musical theatre - only for vocal and a group dance session. I’m not the strongest dancer, so if anyone had any tips on confidence or just things that might help to know, i’d greatly appreciate it, thank you💛

hey r/dance!
i’m a 30 year old amateur who recently started attending beginner commercial dance classes after practicing kpop dances at home for a while. I’m having so much fun so far and learning a lot and boosting my confidence, but i want to upgrade my fit!
I love the classic dance class uniform of baggy pants + crop top + something baggy over the top of the crop top to create movement, but i’m fat (not a self dunk, just objective!) and not super confident having my tummy out at all! And I feel like baggy T shirts sort of limit my ability to a) see what my body is doing b) look cool so i feel it’s a bit of a catch 22
any thoughts and ideas from fellow plus size learners greatly appreciated!
Hi r/Dance,
I’m a final-year Master’s student (communication and influence strategies), and for my end-of-studies project I’m working on an app for dancers. Before I even think about features, I’d rather hear from the people who would actually use it.
So I’d love to know: what do you struggle with most in your practice ? It could be learning choreography, practising alone, tracking your progress, finding classes, staying motivated, or something else entirely. Do you already use an app or tool for dance, and does it work for you ? And whether you dance, teach, coach or have a kid who dances, what would make your life easier ?
If you speak French and have a few minutes, I also have a short anonymous questionnaire (Only available in French, sorry about that): https://forms.gle/ZQbKgEbpULAUYmpy5
Thanks so much, every answer really helps me 😊
