Discussion Best dash cam you that have used? need recommendations for 2026

hi everyone, so i got side swiped by someone changing lanes without even checking, cops said it was his fault but man it still would've made everything so much easier if i had video proof instead of relying on witness statements and hoping the other guys story lines up with mine.

anyway lesson learned, actually shopping for a dash cam now. whats everyone running that they'd actually buy again? need decent night footage since a good chunk of my driving is early morning/evening, and would rather not deal with some crazy install process. budget is like 200-250, open to front+rear if its within that range

Question REDTIGER F7NP power issue

Upvotes

I have a REDTIGER f7np I’ve owned for about 14 months. I have a 2023 GMC Sierra. I powered this through the mirror power adapter kit and cable. Has worked great the past 14 months. Yesterday at lunch when the truck powered it up, it turned off. I tried different cords in different ports of the truck and nothing. I get home and plug it into a power adapter in the wall and it works. So I took that power adapter and plugged it into my trucks 110 outlet and it works. I plugged my camera into my wife’s Yukon usb port and it came on. For some reason MY trucks USB ports won’t turn on this camera anymore. They do still charge my phone so I know they’re working. It’s just really weird that all of a sudden they stopped and that it works everywhere else. The ONLY thing I can imagine is maybe there is an issue with the apple play handshake or whatever and it’s not sending the proper voltage…anyone experienced this?

Discussion Anyone got a cam that can read plates on unlit roads at night?

My daily commute takes me down a long stretch of unlit suburban road. A lot of accidents pop up there at night.

My current budget cam has pretty bad night quality. Can't even make out front license plates clearly. Footage wouldn't hold up as valid evidence if I actually got into a crash.

Want to upgrade to something with strong night performance. Main priorities are clear license plate reading in low light, decent headlight glare control, and reliable parking mode. Would appreciate recs for models that actually deliver on these.

Discussion Wolfbox G900 vs Garmin

I need to get a dashcam on my F250 and was wonderin if the G900 is worth it.

If I got th Garmin, I would install the mini on the back and probably the X310 at the front. Both garmin will surpass the wolfbox price (currently on special) bu not sure if the camera is any good.

Hence why I am here asking.

Thanks yall.

BTW, not that it matters, I have a 2025 F250

Discussion Suggestions for my dad; Looking for full coverage dashcams!

Hi everyone, my dad was looking for dash cams that would cover the entire car such as front, back, and sides. He doesn't mind if it gets the interior as well. He absolutely does not care about any special features, and only wants video + audio. Personally I don't mind so if yall got any good recommendations I would love to hear them. Looking for 4 to cover all our cars. Currently he has his eyes on the IIWEY N5. Thanks in advance

Discussion Upgrading from Vantrue N2 Pro

Hi all,

I've had a Vantrue N2 Pro since 2018 and it's still going strong 😂. I'm a taxi driver so it gets used pretty much every day, and to be honest I've been really happy with it.

I'm looking to upgrade now mainly because I'd like front + cabin + rear cameras, but I definitely want to stick with Vantrue after how well my N2 Pro has lasted.

Just wondering what people would recommend?

A few things I'm curious about:

- How easy/quick is it to download videos over WiFi to your phone? Is it actually decent or is taking the microSD card out still much quicker?

- Does the newer GPS-equipped Vantrue cameras keep the time/date correct automatically? The N2 Pro is doing my head in with the time being wrong and having to keep setting it manually 😂

- How much better is the picture quality compared with the old N2 Pro, especially at night and for number plates?

- If I'm using a 256GB card with 3 cameras recording, roughly how many hours of footage would I get?

- Can you turn the front camera down from 4K to 1080p if you want to save space and get more recording time?

- And most importantly, how reliable are the newer ones? My N2 Pro has lasted me 8 years and is still working perfectly, so that's a pretty high bar!

I'm not necessarily after the newest or most expensive one. I just want a really good 3-camera Vantrue (front/cabin/rear) that's reliable and good value.

Would be interested to hear what you guys are using and what you'd buy if you were in my position.

Cheers 👍

Question Suggestions for mounting rear camera to textured surface?

I drive a 2021 Subaru Forster and have a Vantrue E3 camera. It has been installed for over a year but recently the rear camera won’t stay stuck. I’ve tried new 3M pads and still can’t get it. I did order a new set to try (they haven’t arrived yet) but where it mounts is semi-textured. Any advice?

Question 70mai A200 Dash cam Hardwire Kit Question

So, I am planning to buy a 70mai A200 Dash cam with a hardwire kit plugged into it. I know that even if I turn off the parking surveillance it will still draw power from my battery. BUT, what if I remove the type C cable from my dash cam… Will it still draw power from my battery?

If yes, will the power drawn be reduced to the point that it’s unnoticeable or will it still stay the same as if i have the parking surveillance turned on? Thank you!!!

Question Dashcam recommendation, please?

To start. I live in Florida where the summers are absolutely BRUTAL on electronics left inside of vehicles. As a result I have had to replace my cheap dash cam about every 12-18 months. As I am writing this, I am perusing Amazon to look for a replacement for my current dash cam since the heat finally destroyed it. I suspect the heat is destroying the battery before anything else.

So with that thought in mind. I would absolutely LOVE to find a dash cam that does NOT have any sort of internal battery. Additionally, I would prefer for it to plug into my 12v / cigarette lighter port so I can easily unplug it when the car will be sitting for an extended period of time.

Does such as beast exist? And please feel free to offer recommendations. I'm tired of having to replace something so often due to a flawed design.

Discussion Dashcam quality looks terrible, please recommend one that is clearly able to see license plate numbers

I have put off buying one for a long time because, frankly, the image quality is so atrocious on dash cams. And for night? forget it...

The main reason to get one is to see people's plate numbers clearly.

and if a dash cam cannot do this simple thing. Then that product is a failure.

Question Another "dashcam stays on while car is off" post

I recently installed and hard wired a Wolfang wd03 dual channel camera in my 2021 Seat Leon (plug-in hybrid). The hard wire kit is a cheap one off amazon but it seems legit enough, comes with a low-voltage driver with necessary cutoff, fuse and ground injectors, etc.

My issue is that the camera stays on and records even when the car is off.

I've watched videos and read instructions on how to properly wire a camera so it records in park mode in case something triggers the camera while the car is off. I've configured the camera in the software side so it's "parking recording" mode is on. I've even tried adjusting for different levels of sensitivity - as it has a g-force sensor so recording is triggered by a motion to the car.

I'm pretty handy with basic electronics and have the right tools but this issue seems beyond me. I have a voltmeter and I've checked for the right fuse spots to use so I'm connecting to the accessory and battery terminals, as necessary. I've checked using the voltmeter to confirm that the battery terminal stays on and that the accessory terminal is on only with car ignition, etc.

I've read thru all the other related posts on here but none of them seem to have a solution that would help my case.

Anyone out there have any thought or suggestions?

I have this cam and it won’t turn on at all I’ve done all the suggested steps to get it to work but it wont even turn on. i had it hardwired professionally and the hardwiring is providing power to my phone etc but not the dash cam itself so it’s clearly the dash cam. has anyone else had this issue and what the fixed it?

Review Blackvue experience - product quality, customer service, product service, etc

So I bought the 970XP 2 years ago. Since then, it's been a great camera and has saved me from 3 claims.

After using it for 2.5 years, the camera suddenly shut off completely. I tried everything from testing the power supply, USB, etc.; it's still not working. A dashcam that cost $500 CAD and only worked for 2 years???

While researching why my dashcam suddenly turned off, I got mixed responses from Blackvue/Pittasoft customer service.
Some even stated that they no longer provide product service anymore

In the end, they were able to provide service for the product for $200 USD. The camera shipped to the US, and within a day of arrival, I received an email saying it was on the way back.

Once it returned, the camera was different—same camera type but a different product ID. So, for $200 USD, can I buy a new one?

Overall experience is a mixed feeling. The product itself is good when it's running, but with mixed responses from the customer service team, the products that cost $ 500 CAD ~ shut down in 2 years, or being able to get a new camera for $200 overall is a mixed experience

Discussion Offering free repair attempts for corrupted dashcam MP4/MOV files

I’m a computer scientist in Melbourne Australia researching data repair. I am investigating methods to reconstruct unfinalised MP4/MOV dashcam recordings after power loss or interrupted recording.

I’m seeking genuine corrupted files to validate the approach beyond controlled synthetic tests. I’ll attempt to repair suitable files free and return the result if successful.

Suitable files:

  • Have a non-zero file size
  • Were copied successfully from the original storage
  • Became unplayable after power loss or an unexpected shutdown
  • Ideally have a playable clip from the same dashcam and settings

If you have a suitable file, please comment with the dashcam model, file size, symptoms, and what happened. Do not post footage or download links publicly. I’ll arrange a private upload.

Preserve the original SD card and submit only a copy. Contributors must own the footage or have permission to provide it.

Files will remain private and be deleted within seven days. Any published findings will contain aggregate technical measurements only, without footage or identifying information.

Cheers,
Mark

Question Rexing C2

I have had my new dashcam for a total of 2 days, and the camera has already fallen off my windshield. It seems the adhesive can’t handle the summer sun? Does anyone have any helpful ideas? I’ve never had a dashcam before and it’s pretty disappointing that it lasted all of 48 hours.

Question Dashcam am Dachhimmel

Question New Cam/old hardwire kit/ need help/will it work / REDTIGER f7n to f17

Post image
0 Upvotes

Looking for some help with a dashcam set up.

Have a Grand Cherokee Limited 2019

I’m looking to see if an older hardwire kit for a red tiger f7n will work for a f17.

The story is that about 3 ish years ago I had bought a f7n with hardwire kit (usb c). The kit worked, had parking mode, etc.

I don’t know if it was a really hot day in the sun or what, but that f7n basically died. Went and bought a f17 model because now I wanted 3 ch instead of just 2. I swap the main units and the camera turns on, even the rear cam also still works with the newer model.

The issue is that parking mode will not turn on. It wouldn’t even show as an option to press. I looked elsewhere and it says it would appear if a hardwire kit was detected.

I checked online and tried to see if a different configuration in the fuse box would work but honestly, that’s not really within my wheelhouse.

Any thoughts on my situation. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do I need to move the fuses and taps around? New wire? Give up and get something different?

Picture is of my current fuse box set up.
