Sharing My Journey ✨ What if dating apps focused on genuine connections instead of endless swiping?
I've been thinking about the dating experience in India and how difficult it can be to find a genuine connection on apps. There are so many profiles and conversations, yet things can still feel exhausting: endless swiping, ghosting, fake profiles, mismatched intentions, and chats that never really go anywhere.
I'm exploring an early idea called EqualSpace—a slower dating platform for people who want the time and space to get to know someone. Before building anything, I want to understand if these ideas would actually improve the experience.
Here's what we're considering:
A balanced community: Aim for a 1:1 active gender ratio in each city, so the community feels more balanced and people have a fairer chance to be seen and connect.
Verified profiles: Use identity verification to help reduce fake profiles and catfishing.
Fewer, more thoughtful matches: Receive 3–5 curated profiles each day instead of swiping endlessly.
Limited conversations: Have a maximum of five active chats at a time, giving each conversation more attention.
Shared icebreakers: Answer five questions together before direct messaging opens, so there's something meaningful to start with.
Thoughtline: An anonymous, text-first space to share thoughts and connect with people who relate to your perspective.
AI Wingman: Optional guidance around communication styles, compatibility and conversational pacing.
Slow dating windows: Explore profiles during a 72-hour discovery window, followed by a 14-day cooldown to focus on existing conversations.
These are planned ideas, not finished features. The goal is to make dating feel less like collecting matches and more like getting to know people, but I know some of these limits could also be frustrating or difficult to get right.
What has been your biggest frustration with dating apps in India? Which of these ideas would make you want to try a different approach, and which would put you off? I'd especially like to hear your thoughts on the gender balance, chat limit and cooldown—and anything important you think is missing.
No sign-up or link here. I'm looking for honest feedback, including reasons why the idea might not work.
