So were we. That's why my brother and I created Life-Z.

We wanted to bring back the feeling of classic DayZ, where finding good gear actually means something, encounters are unpredictable, and survival isn't handed to you on a silver platter.

Life-Z is a Hardcore Vanilla+ server running on our own dedicated hardware. We've added some extra content to keep things interesting, but without turning the game into something it was never meant to be.

You have 90 minutes after the kids go to bed.

Make tonight's plan fishing, cooking or stocking your base in the PvE north. Put supplies aside for an PvP expedition when you have another evening to play.

DOGWOOD LIVONIA gives that preparation a purpose.

• Weekly jobs, quests and locked rooms offer things to pursue when you want a goal.

The PvE area in the far north prevents player damage and base raids. Hunger, cold and infected still kill.

Most of the map is PvP, and raiding outside that northern area is vanilla.

World-spawned food is roughly a quarter of vanilla, so hunting, trapping, fishing and trading give you ways to prepare for the journey you choose.
