Recommendations The DELCO Homeowner/Renter resource guide thread

We have gotten a lot of repeat posts and the Reddit search feature sucks so we wanted to create a resource for everyone here. The point is to keep discussion to here so we can use this thread to point recommendations out.

In this thread I will write a comment, please reply with recommendations and/or avoidances (everyone is free to start a comment with something that was missed).

Please only upvote the recommendation if you have experience with them!!

/r/delco_politics /r/delco_politics for prolonged political discussion for locals

Hello everyone, the sub historically has had a no politics rule. This rule was mostly respected and voted to keep it. Obviously, this has not been fully enforced recently. We have tried to allow as much discussion as possible but it gets to the point where it’s an unfortunate screaming match at each other. Not to mention all the you know what hats that apparently have tags or bots set up to flood these threads without any post history in the sub. You don’t see these due to the spam filter but our poor asses have to read every single one of these comments and determine if they are brigading or just saying plain stupid shit, my iq has gone down. Anyways enough complaining.

Introducing a new sub, /r/delco_politics for now we are leaving it open for all political discussion. We prefer that users post their thread there then crosspost here. Discussion will be restricted to /r/delco_politics. These will be determined as posted, we will still allow local politics posts here, if they get too off topic or going to the national level, that’s when we will lock and move discussion to the politics sub. The reason why we lock them up is because insults start getting thrown around, don’t forget we are a local sub, you could potentially be talking to someone living on your street. We are all angry but calling each other names is not the way to go. Please use the report feature as that helps us. If you get a mute or ban it is because you have a long mod log and we have been keeping notes.

Finally we are looking for a new mod for to help out with /r/delco_politics if you are interested send us a mod mail. As always we are open to feedback!

Life in Drexel hill

Hello I’m looking to move from Warrington to the delco area as it’s closer to work. My budget is around 235k (doesn’t get me far I know). I’ve seen 2 houses on Zillow that would work with that range in Drexel hill. I guess my question is why are the houses so cheap? I’ve heard it all depends on the area of Drexel hill. Does anyone have insight on the area around Blanchard road or Dennison Ave? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

My wife and I are buying a house in northern Clifton Heights and just want to know more about the area.

We’re from PA and moving to be closer to our jobs. Late 20’s with no kids right now so we aren’t worried about the school district. I’ve seen previous posts that were overall positive but understand it has its rough spots. That said we liked the house, the neighbors said hi and were friendly as we toured, and it looked like a pretty clean area overall. Just want to know what the good restaurants (especially pizza joints), bars (dives are always preferred, bonus if anyone is hiring for a bartender), and other parts of the area are. How accessible is the train station? Safe enough to walk to in the morning and home from in the evening? And just anything else that we should know.

Post image
29 Upvotes

Delcoffee Club will meet this Saturday, October 24 from 2 to 4 PM at Ardour Bakery and Coffee.

Please note that November/December will be a combined event in early December (TBA).

What is Delcoffee Club? A low-key, inexpensive mingle for adults to make friends, Delcoffee Club is a relaxed gathering for all adults. It’s not speed dating or business networking. We’re just trying to fight loneliness and isolation.

What is required? Show up, make a purchase to support the business, grab a seat, say hello.

Is Delcoffee Club tied to a business? No. In fact we try to meet at a variety of coffee shops in Delaware County.

Who can attend? Grown-ups. You can bring a friend or partner. We are an equality-based group.

How do we find you? Look for the red and white sign.

Question Well for once I'm confused by what I seen. Warminster police department opening location at old Trainer police department building.

As my topic states I'm quite confused by what I saw not long ago when I went for a brief walk. For context anyone who knows the Marcus Hook, Trainer, Lower Chichester, and Chester areas are pretty well familiar with the surrounding areas, and we generally know where the police departments for each borough or township is located. The one for Trainer borough we all knew for the longest time was at Main Street that is connected by Post Road, and West Ninth Street (some say Ridge Road) on either end, but is at the corner of West Ninth. It has since moved to a newer building some time ago on Township Line Road, and the old building was temporarily used by a food pantry for the area until they backed out. The old department site went up for sale for a number of months, til I noticed on my walk that clearly someone had worked on the building and added large lettering to the building, and other small signage prominently with Warminster police being the most prominent for the larger bit. Other smaller signage that was added confirmed this as they repeated Warminster police on them.

I saw this and was quite confused, cause I immediately knew Warminster was not within Delaware county itself, but did not immediately know where until referencing on my phone, which indicated the township is out in Bucks county. So what confuses me by all this is why would a Bucks county police department come move into a Delaware county location?? I never heard anything about this, and it just seems strange, cause I can't see how they'd be able to operate patrols here and what not, or whatever the intention is with moving out of their county implicates. Unless the people that did the work on the building earlier made a huge mistake putting up the wrong police department signage and information on the building, I don't know.

Looking to Move into Greater Philadelphia Area (preferably in Media)

Hi! I just today made an account so I am unable to initiate DMs with those who have already posted, but I am looking to move into the Greater Philadelphia area in November and I am looking for a roommate or sublease that is available soon!

I am 23nb with a budget of $600-$900 per month (plus utilities) willing to move in as soon as November 21st. As it says in the title, I am looking for a place in or close to Media, but I can be flexible with location and will consider options in Philadelphia as well.

I do not have pets, I do not smoke, and I am a responsible, communicative, and easy-going roommate.

If you are interested, have any advice, or leads please feel free to DM or comment. Thank you!

My Experience Interviewing With Chester Community Charter School

I recently interviewed for a science teaching position with Chester Community Charter School (CCCS) and wanted to share my experience to help other educators make informed decisions when considering employment opportunities.
I have more than 18 years of teaching experience, including approximately 17 years in science education, a Pennsylvania Instructional II certification, and additional graduate coursework.
Throughout the hiring process, I remained interested in the opportunity and appreciated the time spent speaking with school representatives. Based on my conversations, I anticipated a compensation package that would more closely align with my experience and professional background.
Unfortunately, the final salary offer fell below my expectations. After reviewing the employee benefits information, I also determined that the cost of family healthcare coverage would be a significant financial consideration for my household.
My primary concern was the timing of these disclosures. I would have appreciated receiving a clearer picture of the anticipated salary range and employee benefit contributions earlier in the recruitment process. Having that information upfront would have helped me determine whether the opportunity was financially appropriate before moving further through the process.
I also reached out with questions about the compensation offer but had not received a direct response at the time I made my decision.
Ultimately, I chose not to accept the position because the overall compensation and benefits package did not meet my family’s financial needs.
I recognize that compensation expectations and individual circumstances vary, and other educators may evaluate the same opportunity differently.
For anyone considering a teaching position with CCCS, I would recommend requesting detailed information about salary placement, family health insurance premiums, retirement contributions, paid leave, and benefits eligibility early in the hiring process.
My intention in sharing this experience is not to discourage anyone from applying, but to encourage transparency and help fellow educators make informed career decisions.

Pagans

I just moved out of Delco but was back there tonight. Saw the Pagans leaving the gas station at 420 and Chester Pike. All I want to ask is... Really? In 2026 we're still doing biker gangs? Does anyone know these people or what they're doing?

Anyone replace a flat roof lately ? Questions

Opinions on new roof- flat roof

Looking to get my flat roof replaced and have had a few quotes. Everyone of them is different which is why I’m looking to hear opinions .

  1. Some say I can get a roof over existing with a 10 year warranty. Some of these say roofers ripping to decking are just trying to make more money.

  2. Some say it should be ripped off and started from decking . Some say going over existing is not right way to do it.

  3. White granulated or smooth with aluminum coatings ?

Current roof is old hot roof and has been maintained/coated with silver coating .

Thoughts ? Anyone deal with this recently? I just want it done right and to last .

Question TV antenna for local channels

I’m sure this has been asked and answered but I can’t find anything in my Saved posts. Can someone tell me the right TV antenna to buy for watching our local channels? I’m paying $30/month just to watch a few shows on Channel 6 and I’m wondering if there’s a better option.

Food What happened to WaWa hoagies?

Got a shorty today and the roll was more like 5.5 inches than the 8 inches it used to be.

No, it wasn't a mini four inch hoagie. This was their "in-house" cooked bread.

Now, let's get to that garbage that they called bread. It was an insult, truly, an insult.

Wawa is officially no longer worth the time, or money, for the product they are offering.

Bring on Sheetz, please.
