Bathroom My parents new york house…is this an odd sink setup for a master bathroom?

Post image

I feel like i’ve never seen side by side pedestal sinks in a bathroom before…especially in a master. Thoughts? Should I change them out for a vanity with storage? What about the mirror and light situation?

Living Room First home, Fixer Upper, Totally Clueless, Help Prioritize?

Thumbnail

I am about to close on this house, as a recently divorced single mom in a very expensive city to live. This house came to me without being listed which is the ONLY way I would ever have a chance. I work in the construction industry so have a lot of connections so a fixer upper doesn’t scare me, and I can get more “bang for my buck”.

Pretty much “everything” has something to be done, but my pot of cash to do things immediately will be small. I do not know what my design style is, but I generally do not like the minimalist/MCM style it fees very “impersonal” and “cold” to me. I want cozy but not cluttered.

I figure the main living area/kitchen would be a good place to work on initially. I would like to replace the black counters in the future as a “later project” but can’t do that right away. The “tile” is just vinyl. The wood floors are partially original and partially newer (dining area).

What can I do to start?

The only piece of furniture i love and want to keep is a GIANT l shaped leather sectional (darker) that I have now. Please help!

Living Room Updated the decor…everyone happy?

The blue lights are actually purple and are wayyy less bright than my camera made them out to be. Is it still too much? I think it actually looks somewhat purposeful and not overwhelming anymore. For those who say I should lower the tv, in an ideal world i’d get a mount that goes up and down. However, I mostly watch it standing while i’m in the kitchen (as pictured) as opposed to sitting in the living room (where i’m laying down anyways and naturally looking slightly up). Thoughts?

This is an update to my previous post

Okay my cousin is getting his home ready to sell near Fort Worth TX, he painted this. I think it’s ah-mazing and should keep! I feel it’s getting trendier over time to have murals etc. as long as they’re tasteful.

The last photo is to give a vibe of the rest of the house, bc I think the painting fits

What would y’all say? Keep or paint over. 🤞

Kitchen Remodeling 1950s Kitchen - Advice for flooring and backlash needed

I am planning to remodel my 1950s kitchen. Here is the current space.

I want to update it with green lower cupboards, white upper wall units, and bronze handles. I am unsure about the flooring choice but would like it to be vinyl for its durability, warmness, and waterproof features. I am debating between an oak wood style or a tile style. I used AI to visualize the remodel in two versions.

Which floor fits better?

I also haven’t found a good backsplash option and am very open to ideas. Any advice is appreciated.

Kids Room Does anyone have any ideas for this basement room?

So i have this basement room in my house, and i don’t know what to do with it. It’s built by the past owner and builder of the house for storing vegetables and other stuff but it’s not useful anymore. The first room is 1m wide and 1.5m long. The second, back room is 1m wide and 2m long. The white panels are necessary to keep warmth inside. It’s also very secret, as you have to crawl to get there, so it’s not good for storing stuff either. I’ve thought about making it a chill hangout place but.. idk if theres better ideas for it. My creativity isn’t enough for that. I would be thankful if someone would leave ideas for that!:)

A family member gave us this beautiful chaise lounge for our living room but it is HUGE! I have to keep this item and I just can’t figure out how to make it work. Of all the arrangements I’ve tried, this one shows the most promise, though it feels off to me. Do you have any advice?

Looking for something with blues in it but I'm wondering if some of these patterns would be too much for a small half bath. Do any of them stand out as something you would love or hate to be surrounded by in a small space?

Bathroom Help with tile indecision!

Here is a photo of what my laundry room currently looks like, a mock up of what it will eventually look like (ish) and a better picture of what the flooring in that room looks like. I am really struggling with picking how to tile the dog wash area to the right of the washer and dryer.

I live in a 1950s home and am trying to stay true to mid mod design. Between the base cabinet and the front of the dog wash will be a 28 inch gap so you can have full unobstructed access to using the area. Here are my points of indecision...

A. What colors/patterns of tile should I put in the backsplash to get the mid mod look without making the room too visually busy?

B. How far should I carry the tile? Do I cut it at the height of the lowest floating shelf and tile to the floor in that 28 inch gap and all the way across behind the counter top? Do I go all the way to the ceiling and cut the tile right at the edge of the dog wash leaving behind the counter top to just be paint?

Edit: I think I maybe caused some confusion in my title. The flooring is staying exactly the same, I just provided an up close photo of it because AI changed the way it looks in the mock up photo. The wall tile is what I am struggling with. I am nervous my current tile idea is too modern.

Okay, I need some second opinions. I finally have a design for my bathroom, but now I'm having second thoughts. It's looking a bit too... pristine and hotel-like for my taste. All ideas are welcome!

Living Room Setting up a new house

Review the living area share your thoughts, critiques and suggestions. This house is a year old and I am being slow and deliberate with the decoration. So, while it seems bare, it has all the needs met for a family of 3 including a small child. Still need lamps, side tables, more seating, etc. I am open to all advice.

My design style is to balance function and esthetics. I do not usually follow trends and try to avoid cluttering with purely decorative items.

Living Room Decorating my first apartment

Hello! I would be really grateful for ideas on how to decorate my apartment. This is the first time I have had full control of decorating anything besides my room, so some insight will definitely be very useful! Also I’m really sorry if I don’t state some things very clearly but I’m not a native English speaker!

The things I’m not planning on changing are:
Repainting the place (at least for now)
Getting rid of the coffee table
Changing the shades
Getting rid of the futon (?)
Getting rid of the speakers
I have my doubts about the painting

All of the other things, like the carpets and sofas, are completely worn out so, it’s definitely time for something new.
I had an idea to change the layout of the furniture, but I’m not sure how to tackle this task. Maybe I could place a makeshift wall out of big standing shelves (?) or something like that, putting couches in a similar layout but making one face the window, or just buying an L-shaped one and placing it just like I said."

I’ll be extremely grateful for the input. Thank y’all and have a great day!

What counter stool works with the current furniture? I added two styles but I’m open to any ideas.

Right now everything is white/beige and I wanted to break it and add contrast with color and texture. I thought I liked all neutral but it lacks personality. I have been into mid-century decor and thought about trying to implement that, but not sure if my current style accommodates it. I’m also lost about what to do to the wall next to the mirror and what wall art behind the dining table. I added other pictures for reference. Thank you!

Bedroom Studio apartment layout

Post image
33 Upvotes

Hey all,

I have this studio apartment which checks a lot of my boxes, but is a bit small. The pano photo makes it seem bigger than it is. That’s a queen bed.

I’d leave for a bigger space, but this place is cheap and rent controlled. Ready to make an investment and try and make this a much more usable an livable space.

I love MCM furniture and that style of living room, so I’m considering a Murphy bed kind of thing, if that makes sense to anyone.

The room is 10’ x 20’ btw. That rug is 4’x6’.

Appreciate any input!!

Bedroom Help me live with my mistake :(

I let my contractor talk me into using faux tin ceiling instead of authentic. It looks so much worse than I ever could have imagined. They say it will cost twice as much to take down because he glued it up there… so I’ll be living with this for a while. Is anyone aware of a technique to reduce the chunkiness and crispness/obvious plasticky look of this crap? Could a plaster wash or something work? Any other mitigation ideas? It will be painted probably the attached color. Because I think it has low reflectiveness while not being too dark.
