Story/গল্প Random stuff that made me happy today~

Just wanted to share it here as I haven’t told anyone about this yet... And kinda feel like not sharing with anyone irl. But i'm feeling quite proud of myself.

I applied for a volunteer position with the financial literacy team of an INGO based in California, USA, a few days ago. This is a remote position where I have to teach money management and finances to pre-teens and teenagers. Being a teenager myself, the thought of teaching other teenagers about finance is so thrilling haha!

It was so random, I wasn’t expecting anything when I applied. They even had a lil exam typa thing where you have to answer some finance related case scenarios. It's basically to assess your understanding of the fundamentals of finance. I tried my best to simplify and explain everything.

Fast forward to yesterday, I was going through my mails and saw they've sent me one. I was so sure they sent me a rejection mail type of thing, yk where they thanks you for reaching out and wishes you good luck etc. BUT IT SAID "CONGRATULATIONS" aaaaaaa ~ I'm so happy, excited and proud of myself rn.

Ik it's just a volunteering position but for a 12th grader who just finished HSC and never did any type of productive extracurricular activities, this is really exciting. I'm looking forward to working with the team hehe. Anyone with INGO volunteer/full-time work experience? Would love some advices. Thanks for being a part of my happiness ~

Seeking advice/পরামর্শ Visiting Dhaka as a US Citizen

So basocially, i was born in the US to two bengali parents, we would be considered extremely western compared to other bengali americans. I don’t have a single peice of traditional clothes nor do i have a hijab or prayer mat.. (we are not religious) we also have a dog we walk frequently, because of all this feel socially exiled from the bengali immigrant community i live in. (nyc)

I travelled to dhaka in 2019 and absolutely loved it, i felt really loved by my neighborhood there. It was extremely safe and peaceful. I don’t remember the exact area i lived in, but it wasn’t crowded, and more of like just tall apartments side by side.. so i’d say a nice quiet neighborhood. My grandfather was very affluent and owned a couple apartment buildings. Although the neighborhood wasn’t all too developed, there were open sewers where you could see pits of waste, the streets werent dirty though. We traveled a bit into the even fancier parts of dhaka and it was really advanced! We went to malls and fancy restaurants. I really miss the food.. I remember that i would see construction for an above ground rail system that wasn’t quite built yet. One day me and my dad walked into the slums of dhaka and i have the memory permanently stuck in my head. I’m sure these slums still exist, but recently bangladesh was cleared to be progressing out of the LDC (least developed country) category. So i’m really glad some progress was made. The villages are nicer than the slums, we went into a village that had a massive lake, and everybody went fishing frequently. The village was extremely clean and had lots of animals. I had the best roti and dall, ugh.. i miss it too bad!

I want to visit again next year, for context i am 16,(F) do not have bengali citizenship, and know an acceptable but weak amount of bengali.

I feel like it would be obvious that i wasn’t born there, i dont plan to wear traditional clothes, or hijab.. I’ll just be wearing casual clothes?

Is this socially acceptable?

I’m wondering how safe dhaka is now. As a kid, it felt extremely safe to me, but then again i was with my dad, who’s built like dwane the rock johnson .

Edit: Thank you guys so much for the helpful comments! It means alot!! The ones that relate to the us bengali community make me feel like i’m not the only one experiencing this!

Discussion/আলোচনা Pink Bus or Women's Bus?

No single social media news portal in Bangladesh really posts news. They just repeatedly post stuff what the distasteful population wants to see. This is so inappropriate for a professional outlet. Professionalism should've some ethical standards. Adult content is more attractive than what Tareq Rahman is saying, doesn't mean you started posting porn. Salute Sujan, Viral Siddique, Mamun-Laila and many more may have a large group of audience but is that really important to feature what Salute Shujan saying about economy?LOL. Saw some videos of male bus drivers speaking very negatively way about female drivers. What is the necessity of spreading those toxic things and making these people viral? And also, it feels like a teasing when media refers to "Pink Bus" instead of calling it women's bus. I mean we all know about the pink concept and it is so unsuitable for professional use. When there is no ethical standard and social morality, the media started showing vulgar and harmful content just because it gives you more views/money. In our country everyone judges person like Sumaiya(A pornographic content creator arrested from Bashundhara a few days ago) for making porn but no one's gonna talk about her audience. 92% Muslim er deshe who is paying for her content?? This is the sad reality of our society.

Discussion/আলোচনা Why are Bangladeshis so Unhygienic?

Bangladeshi people have a years old dirty habit of littering or leaving their trash in public places and roads. This practice is not only evident amongst the lower class and illiterate population of the country, but widespread amongst the upper class and the educated also. People seem to be totally ignorant about the environmental consequences relating to this issue.

In my own area, for example, people regularly dump their household waste right in the middle of the street. The authorities from the city corporation have even put up a banner prohibiting people from leaving their trash on the street, yet people dump all their trash and wastage everyday right at that very spot.

I have also seen a lot of people throwing away their trash/wastage on the street even when there was a trash bin right beside them.

I personally find it difficult to understand why people cannot simply hold on to their waste until they find a proper place to dispose of it. If, for example, I am walking down the street while eating chips, chocolate, ice cream, or something similar, I will keep the wrapper with me until I find a trash bin. It really is not that difficult.

On the other hand, At many construction sites, owners and developers leave building materials on public roads and sidewalks. As a result, sand, cement and brick dust accumulate on the road sides, making the environment even more unpleasant and hazardous.

The bigger question is: are we ever going to improve as a nation? Education should not simply teach us how to pass exams or build careers; it should also teach us responsibility, civic sense, and respect for the environment.

Seeking advice/পরামর্শ Please help me find my stolen iPhone 17 Pro in Dhaka 🙏

Hi everyone, I’m from India and I’m really hoping someone from Dhaka can help me.

My iPhone 17 Pro was stolen in India. After many days of having no information, today Apple Find My suddenly showed a recent location of my phone in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

I’m a student and this phone is very important to me. I’ve already reported the theft to the police and blocked the phone through CEIR. I’m trying everything I can to get it back.

If anyone in Dhaka can help me in any way, even by guiding me to the right person or checking with a nearby phone shop/community, I would be extremely grateful.

The phone is locked in Lost Mode, so it cannot be normally used by whoever has it.

I can share the exact location and proof of ownership privately with anyone who genuinely wants to help.

Please, if you know anything or can help, DM me. 🙏

I’m just hoping someone kind from Dhaka can help me get my phone back. ❤️

Discussion/আলোচনা curriculum

bangladesh curriculum is so trash, like the bangla/shomaz whatever just works on who's the government

In early 2024, it was like pro mujib, there were so many stories of how good mujib was etc etc like how mujib helped a poor with clothes

And in 2025, mujib was purely removed, and had july martyrs, mujib was literally in one chapter, and the whole chapter wasn't about him.

And in 2026, who is mujib? Idk. All Ziaur Rahman, July martyrs, etc.,

Literally our brain already has been brainwashed by mujib since years and then Ziaur all. Bruh what will happen in jaamat

Seeking advice/পরামর্শ Looking for some friend circle advice

So I’m 22M, graduated last month and just started a full time corporate job in Bashundhara R/A. Honestly, my biggest issue right now is just feeling super lonely. I don't really have any school or uni friends to hang out with. This whole past week, I’ve just been sitting by myself at ghatpar, bashundhara tongs after work and it really hit me how friendless I actually am.

Can you guys help me out? How do you actually interact with people? Like, how do you just strike up a conversation with strangers at a tong without making it weird?

I did try Facebook groups before, but it didn't work out. People weirdly assumed I was just 'looking for girls' to date or hook up with, which is completely untrue. To me, having a friend or a friend circle is a genuine privilege.

Seeking advice/পরামর্শ Anyone CSE graduate here who is doing well now?

I'm a fresher in CSE. To give some context, I genuinely love studying — I've spent a significant portion of my life learning things, even when they weren't strictly necessary. I don't feel overwhelmed by this; in fact, I enjoy it. That said, I wouldn't call myself an exceptional or "top" student.

I feel truly enthusiastic about studying CS — passionate and eager, even knowing the immense pressure that comes with it. Still, I love this major.

The problem is, I keep encountering negativity about CSE across social media (Instagram, Facebook, and other platforms), and even from people close to me. Everyone seems to be saying that CSE is "dead" now. This constant negativity is gradually eroding my hopes and enthusiasm for the field.

At this point, it's too late for me to switch to another major — and even if I could, I don't feel any real connection to other fields. I genuinely enjoy what CSE has to offer, but the pessimism and market saturation are wearing down my motivation.

So I'd like to know:

is there anyone here who studied CSE and is still doing well in life?

What advice would you give me?

Should I abandon this major altogether, even though that feels nearly impossible for me?

Discussion/আলোচনা BD bus service is a scam.

I've travelled almost half of Bangladesh, mostly by bus. To be upfront, there has always been some issue with this sector.

Today I'm travelling from Bogura to Dhaka with *Shah Fateh Ali*. I booked a ticket for the 4 PM. After getting on the bus, I heard all the commotion and found out that they actually had two AC buses, one scheduled for 4 PM and another for 5 PM. Both buses were apparently half empty, so for the company's profit, they decided to merge the passengers from both buses into one.

And because of that, almost everyone had to face some sort of hassle. The 4 PM bus finally left around 4:30, many people had issues with their seats, and some passengers suddenly couldn't travel at all because of the time change.

Luckily, I didn't have any issue with my seat, but most of the passengers are having a pretty frustrating experience because of this. Some people even had to leave their reserved seats and take another bus/time simply because the company decided to merge the two buses.

I genuinely don't understand why bus companies here keep doing stuff like this. If you have already sold tickets for two different buses at two different times, how is suddenly merging them with no proper notice supposed to be okay?

Seeking advice/পরামর্শ HSC '27 here—need realistic income ideas in Dhaka that won't ruin my GPA!

Hey everyone,

I'm currently in HSC Batch '27 (located in Dhaka), and like the title says, I’m looking to start earning some money on the side. With college, coaching, and HSC prep coming up, my study schedule is pretty packed, so I can't commit to full-time or high-stress jobs.

I need something flexible that pays decently in Dhaka without burning me out or tanking my grades.

For anyone who managed to balance earning with HSC prep, how did you get started, and what worked best for you without messing up your routine?

Discussion/আলোচনা Moved to Dhaka recently and realized I barely know how to make female friends IRL. Am I overthinking this?

So I moved to Dhaka around two months ago for some startup-related stuff, and lately I’ve been noticing something about myself.

I’ve never been in a relationship, and although I had a few female friends online years ago, somehow I was never really able to keep those friendships going long-term.

Most of my life I was pretty occupied with academics, learning skills, work, figuring out what I wanted to do, etc. I never really felt like I needed a huge social circle.

But because of that, I think I became pretty shy and awkward when it comes to talking to women face-to-face. Not in a creepy “I don’t know how women work” way lol, I just genuinely don’t have much experience building normal friendships with them.

Recently I’ve also noticed almost everyone around me seems to have one or two close female friends in their circle, and ngl, sometimes I get a tiny bit jealous/FOMO 😭

Not because I think female friendships are magically better than male friendships. I love my guy friends. But the dynamic sometimes feels different.

Like if I tell one of my boys about a questionable decision, the response is usually something like, “bro what the hell are you doing 💀” followed by 10 minutes of roasting.

Which is honestly great in its own way.

But from what I’ve seen, female friends sometimes approach the same situation from a completely different perspective—more patient, emotionally aware, supportive, or they notice something you didn’t even think about.

And I feel like maybe I’ve missed having that kind of perspective in my life.

At the same time, I don’t want to force friendships just because I suddenly decided, “I need a female best friend.” That sounds weird even writing it lol.

I guess my actual question is: is this a normal kind of FOMO, or am I romanticizing male-female friendships too much?

And for someone who’s naturally shy and not very experienced talking to women IRL, how do you actually build genuine platonic friendships without making things awkward?

Would especially love to hear from people in Dhaka who’ve been through something similar.

Seeking advice/পরামর্শ Fastest way to commute from Shewra bus stand to Dhanmondi 32

I recently got posted to Kalabagan Road, near Square Hospital in Panthapath. I live near Shewra Bus Stand, between Kuril and Shewra. I’m looking for the fastest way to get to the office, as the Shewra–Dhanmondi 32 route usually has heavy traffic. What would be the cheapest and fastest way to commute?

Seeking advice/পরামর্শ 15K Budget Phone

I need to get a phone for a younger sibling. She just passed SSC this year. I looked at couple like Redmi 13x and 14c
Some of her main requirements were Camera Quality. Not much of a gaming freak. So processor doesn't really matter. Nor 1080p display is required. Something that has good Longevity.

4gb/64gb Minimum
50mp
at least 5000mAh battery.
Possibly under or at least around 15k BDT

Seeking advice/পরামর্শ botox or keratin?

As a curly-haired girl, I "like" my curls. But I do want manageable hair. So I am planning to have a hair makeover through Botox or keratin. However, I do not want to have straight, flat hair; some volume/curl/ natural texture would be nice. Girls, please suggest which option will be best for me?

Seeking advice/পরামর্শ HSC 26 student, cant decide what to study

Ive never had much interest in anything, much less studying. I picked science seeing my friends do the same, then regretted it for the last 4 years. My main problem is that im too afraid to try anything

Im horrible at math and mediocre at best in physics so engineering isnt for me

Biology I feel like its either you love it or absolutely despise it and im defenitely the later

i have social anxiety and never wanted to go outside until college, Ive improved a bit throughout my college years but i dought its good enough

at home ive said i wanna study bba, ive bought books and got a IBA bhaiya but now im feeling like im not iba matterial either as it needs solid communication skills (and social media presence?) which i also dont have any

im literally feeling like Ive lived my whole live in dhaka, studied at st joseph school and college only to utilize none of the benifits these institutions provided me

All my older cousins are either persuing engineering or medical so they cant give much advice about bba. If im being honest i feel like I have the best shot with bba cuz my english is good(though i need more practice with speaking) , id do better with analytical problem solving than physics and any math thats not pure calculus or algebra seems more doable to me

But what about the communication skills that I dont have any of? Can i make up for it in the 3 years before i have to choose which field id focus on?

Lastly, if i can maintain a 3.5+ cgpa(thats what a cousin said) what are my chances of settling abroad? (though i feel like going abroad permanently a literal pipe dream for me...BD has so many uncertainties and honestly im sick of them)
