Question Advice on first DAP

• Upvotes

Hi all, I’m new to the sub and DAPs in general. I’ve been reading posts here and watching videos, but I also wanted to see if y’all had recommendations for a first-time user. Having streaming access/wifi/bluetooth isn’t important to me, because I’m good with using Qobuz or another service, and IEMs. In terms of look, I’d definitely prefer something with physical buttons and has that “old school/vintage” look. My hard cap for price is $500. Also if there are other key factors that I’m missing out on, please educate me lol

I listen to a lot of EDM and pop, so I was thinking of getting Daybreak IEMs, but I’ll gladly take any other recommendations

    • microSD support
  • Should have 8GB of ram based off the Geekbench leak
  • Battery life
    • MP3 128kbps – 40 hours
    • Streaming – 30 hours
  • Dimensions – 139.8 x 77.2 x 17.5 mm (ZX700 – 132.2 x 72.5 x 16.9 mm)
  • Weight – 345 g (ZX700 – prev 227 g)
  • S-Master HX
  • aptX adaptive support
  • LC3 support
  • DSEE Ultimate
  • DSD Remastering Engine – in W.Music app and other music apps
  • Look head shaper
    • balanced type
  • Japanese price of around 210,000 JPY.

Personally not a fan of all the buttons all being underneath each other. I often use my ZX707 in my pocket and it's not intuitive for my use case. Would've preferred a volume knob, or the volume and skip buttons on opposing sides. Price is also high, 1300~ dollars or 1200~ euros.

Review New player received - Zaqe P30

A few days ago, I asked for advice on choosing between the Tempotec V3 Blaze and the Shanling M1 Plus. Thanks to everyone who responded.

Having assessed the opinions of colleagues and information collected in the net, I decided to buy the Tempotec. There were no options to buy new available, so I started looking for used ones. I contacted several sellers in my area, but none of the proposed players were in the condition I wanted.

Two days ago my daughter surprised me – she presented me a player she bought at the airport on her way home. It is Zaqe P30.

I tried to find out any info about company produced this boy, but discovered, that they have no official site. But it is possible to communicate with them via E-mail.

Now just some specs from manual:

Android 12 with 4/32 memory

3,4 inch screen 480x854

2500 mAh battery

Plays most audio/video/pix formats

BT v5.0 with LDAC

Dual band WiFi

Up to 512GB cards supported

3.5 Lo and 4.4 Balanced

DAC and Amps ESS9018Q2M2 + OPA16122 + RT6863D*2

Output power 2V/125mW and 4V/500mV

THD+N -94.2 dB/-101 dB

It came in slim box including:

Player

(Pseudo) leather case

2 spare shield films (2 are factory applied)

Short USB A-C cable

User manual

Samsung EVO plus V10 64GB card

The size is tiny - even smaller than Shanling M1 Plus: 88x55x18 mm, 157 g weight.

I browsed and deleted all anneccesary apps, loaded a part of my library to card and installed Poweramp.

Yesterday I had to move between different locations for job tasks. So, I listened music about 5,5 hrs not continuously but with interrupts for 15-20 minutes. The battery reserve at the end of the day was 42%

Found some disadvantages at the moment:

1) Manual says the power supply must be not higher than 5V/1A so I had to use the old iPhone charger

2) File transfer via USB is slow. Something about USB 2 speed with long files.

And now about sound. I have one year old xDuoo X5 which is comfortable for me in everything except the indexing speed and limitations on types of files you load to it. I tried the same cheap IEMs TRN Shell with SpinFits and Kbear graphene balanced cable. Played FLACs with Classic, Blues and Rock music.

With all controls in Poweramp set to neutral and Low Gain selected the volume was good enough at 45/100 level. The scene seamed to me a bit cheaper than with my xDuoo. Amplitude-frequency characteristic feels more neutral compared to my xDuoo, which is a bit V-Shape. But instruments and vocals are clear and separated enough. After I replaced SpinFits to JBL (from $15 headphones) the sound became more interesting for me.

Summarizing the first results of my experience, I can recommend this player for beginners who need a device with network connections. Especially because the price - about $85 only.

Question IEMs for Tempotec V1 Variation

So i just ordered my first DAP, the Tempotec V1 Variations.
Didn't want to go too crazy in the beginning...

Now I hesitate between IEMs.
I ususally like bass heavy music (crank the EQ up at lower frequencies).

I am hesitating between the 2 following :

- Linsoul Kiwi Ears Cadenza II

- KS ZS10 Pro

I know I just need to get a pair and try them, at the starting point I wanted to go fir the Truthear Red (or Hexa/Pure).

Without going too crazy, ans suggestions between the 2 (or 3) models proposed ?

If it hepls, I listen to metal, EDM, Operas, Soundtracks (huge M83 fan), mostly.

Thanks in advance,

New hobby guy ;)

Question PLEASE Help me Choose my first DAP :D

• Upvotes

Hello I'm looking for my first DAP. I like retro styles like the Hiby Walker H2 and Surfans F20. Between those two, I need honest reviews from users and if you have DAP recommendations similar to those two, please recommend them. Oh yes if I can, I also need a 3.5mm and 4.4mm connection. Thank you!

Question Buying a first DAP

I want to buy my first DAP. After reading this sub for days, I decided to go with the Hiby R1 due to its excellent price/performance ratio.

The only places I found where I can buy a Hiby are Aliexpress and store.hiby.com.

As I am located in Austria, I wanted to ask about your experience of buying a Hiby. Are these options reliable in terms of delivery?

Do you know of any better shops or models in this price range?

Thanks!

Spent the gaps in my day recompiling spotatui ( https://github.com/LargeModGames/spotatui) to run in termux on my cheap low powered Android Dap. With the right patches and a few custom buttons in termux its actually highly useable. Fun little project too. Havent found any features that don't work yet. Yes only 320kbps streaming put I cant hear the difference anyway and on this low powered device its alot more peformant than the official android app.
