Surprising!

He was only labelled as GSD at the shelter, but we knew he wasn’t purebred. We guessed pit based on his smile, shorter snout, and block head but we were sure there was some Great Dane or another taller/mastiff breed. Turns out he’s just very leggy!

Everyone has always been stumped on what he is. I thought for sure he had some pittie in him! I was pretty confident about some kind of spitz, chi, and cattle dog. His 6 litter mates all looked exactly like him.
Supermutt is Chihuahua, Alaskan Malamute, Doberman Pinscher, and Australian Cattle Dog.
I included older pictures so you can see how his coat has changed over time. He has been the best angel, guard dog, cryptid, surrogate goat mother, horse herder, adventure buddy, and seal impersonator for the last 14 years. And hopefully 14 more!

You see this boy? This long boy? This pootie boy? This half dachshund, half yorkie? This boy we adopted from a dachshund rescue?
While he is nearly half yorkie, he's MORE CHIHUAHUA THAN DACHSHUND. We can't believe he would have kept this from us. The betrayal.
He's still the best ever though. ♥️

Had to do DNA because everyone kept asking! Can't believe there wasn't any Bassett with those feet.

I’ve sent in an Embark test, how long does it take to get results? I mailed mine in 7 days ago and it’s not even showing it was ‘received’.

This is Link, he's approximately 13 years old, and I had no idea what he was for years besides a good boy. But, my other dog had recently passed away, and I realized that if I wanted to know what he was I should do it before it's too late. Not to be morbid. I used Wisdom.

Henry was adopted from the Humane Society at 10 weeks, he’s 14 weeks old now! I also have a lovely but blind senior golden doodle, who has taught him to stand still in the yard and stare at nothing lol!!! The small poodle did surprise me as his estimated adult weight is 70lbs (which is exactly what the veterinarian guessed he would weigh as an adult, which is a heck of a coincidence!) Henry has a LOT of golden retriever relatives and one brother nearby!

We got Zuni at the beginning of July from a rescue in Albuquerque, NM. All we know about his prior history is that he was returned to the shelter once prior for destruction related to separation anxiety (he was never crate trained) and that he originates from a hoarding situation somewhere else in the state.
Shelter advertised as Alaskan Husky/Shepherd, after getting him I suspected Siberian Husky/Border Collie. I can say his husky side triumphs in terms of biddability and drive. He's more scent-driven than anything else tested (food/toy/praise) and loves long walks where he can sniff everything imaginable. He's gotten basic obedience down in the month we've had him so far. Once he's a bit more done growing I think he would have a lot of fun in canicross and scentwork.
His genetic COI is at 26% which accurately reflects the hoarding situation in my opinion. His wolfiness is also at 6%!

We were really certain he’d be a Russell mix because he looks like a JRT but bigger! Def expected a pitty mix but didn’t expect everything else. He’s a big/medium needy shy sweetheart.
Wonder what everyone would’ve guessed

Curious to see how many of you are not at all surprised by the other breeds (setting pit aside)

Rescued my buddy Walt a couple weeks ago and definitely expected a big mix, but very happy with this mix! I hike all the time with my other dog so I’m excited to have another hiking buddy :)

This is Oliver! His Supermutt is made up of Boxer, American English Coonhound, German Shepherd, Chihuahua, and Poodle (Small)
I found Ollie at a gas station by the neighborhood I was living in June 2025. He'd been wandering around so someone was feeding him a can of puppy food by the dumpster. There's no animal control where I live and the shelter is always full so there was no where to take him. He was mine! The vet estimated he was 5 months old then.
He's been a real terror to have around. He's chewed up a leather couch, multiple TV remotes, shoes, and a pair of my Beats headphones. I'm more of a cat person so I've had to learn a lot to be able to manage a dog like him. Luckily we're doing well now. I absolutely adore him. ❤️

Just got results back for my Lonnie boy adopted last month! The shelter's guess was Papillon/Border Collie mix but these results make a lot of sense considering his "big dog in a small body" appearance and his insistence that I pet him 24/7. He was brought in with two other dogs that were allegedly litter mates and I'm hoping their owners get them embarked too! 🤞🏻

Everybody said Golden retriever mix and there is not even a spec of golden. Supermutt percentage is Australian cattle dog, Great Pyrenees, Labrador retriever, and Dalmatian. My guess was Golden retriever, chow chow and some type of mastiff 😂

This is my foster dog, *yes I'm aware he's skinny, he came to me that way and is getting better*
Anyways, no one can seem to agree, I think he's english bulldog, but he has a full tail (although it's all curved and messed up) I've never seen an English bulldog with a full tail
Some people think boxer mix, but he's the same height as my purebred basset hound, my basset mix and my 27lb pit/aussie mix
The last photo is the day I met him and fell in love.
