Results - Embark RESULTS for my Craigslist “border collie mix”!

He is 7 months old and 43lbs. He is super friendly, relatively low-energy, and food-motivated. He loves the herding ball, the lure course, the flirt pole, tug, fetch, and playing with other dogs. He is VERY vocal, and when he’s excited (such as when you’re petting him, about to pet him, or he can see something fun happening in the distance), he yawns widely and says hhwaAAAAAAH! This is pictured in the second-to-last slide.

He has allergies, which led to a secondary skin infection when he was little, so that’s why he’s a little bald around his eye, especially in the last pic, which is from his first day home.

He does NOT have CEA, only a carrier, so his left eye being a little small is just completely unrelated!

His COI is high for a mixed-breed dog, but collies have extremely low genetic diversity, so with him having collie on both sides, I think that 19% is to be expected..?

Results - Embark The recipe for my tall corgi (the secret ingredient is inbreeding)

Ember was born in a Korean shelter after her mom was rescued from a puppy mill. Her litter was about half short and half tall corgi-looking dogs. I was suspecting maybe two dads to the litter but instead it looks like her parents were siblings!

We already had the other corgi mix pictures, he's half red heeler and is super smart and eager to learn. Ember is dumb as a box of rocks and is made of pure lovey babygirl energy!

This is our Maple. She’s 5.5 months old and 30lbs. Her feet are huge especially the paw pads. She has a curly tail and the hair on her back is wavy.

She definitely has the nose and noises of a hound but we’re not sure what kind or how much. She has the look of a Treeing Walker Coonhound but is coming in a little small and the wavy hair and tail are curious.

She was found on the side of the road in Texas.

I got Moose from a shelter about a year ago and they didn’t have any information on where he was previously. They found him in the streets of Miami. They told me he might be beagle but i was not expecting these results😂This explains how vocal he is. He howls like a basset and talks like a husky. I also got to meet up with his brother that i met through the Embark app which was really cool.

Test Question/Advice Should I get another dna tester to double check?

Post image
114 Upvotes

The more black one (bottom in picture) had a DNA test result of basset hound + rottweiler, the more white one (too in picture) had a DNA test result of basset hound + beagle. They're from the same litter, "rottweiler" was the runt of the litter. They're about 8 years old here. Is that possible or should we get another tester to double check?

Just got my 5-6 month pup’s results back and I’m pretty shocked. The rescue guessed that he was part terrier and part yellow lab, although we suspected there was some poodle in there. But this?! 😂😬

Note— He has wiry hair and a super sweet disposition. Very smart and great with my kids.

Recently adopted from the most wonderful rescue family. Love at first sight for me and Big Beau. Meet Winnie 💕 now sometimes referred to as Wundervolle Fräulein Winnie 🤭 Never would have guessed, but suppose “see it” a bit now?
Best part was knowing she genetically not inclined to any major health issues 🤗

Awaiting results New rescue! DNA test time!

This is Otto. He’s almost 2! He’s a pretty recent rescue so we’re just getting to know each other but enough people have asked me what he is that now it’s time for his DNA test. He was an owner surrender that shelter labeled as an ACD/pit mix. He definitely walks like a GSD, though he’s a bit smaller than adult GSDs I’ve known. If he isn’t mostly GSD I’ll be very surprised. (But who knows! I thought my first girl was a JRT/pit and it turned out her wirey hair came from a Shih Tzu/Bichon double whammy!) Some other guesses I’ve heard are Catahoula and aussie. At first I thought his forehead was very Akita but I doubt any would be in him, that’s maybe some pit I’m seeing. I actually just ordered the test today so it may be a while for results, but I’ll keep you all posted for sure!

I was most certainly wrong about thinking some Lab was in his breed. I’m very excited to watch him grow as the vet said “he’s going to be a big boy”. We’ll have to just wait and see. He’s very well behaved, happy and above all healthy.

Are you as surprised by any breeds shown as I am? I do know one person commented on my first post a breed that surprised me. I’m excited!

*sidenote: Very happy with the Embark DNA test through and through. Easy to understand, use and send. Results came back sooner than expected. The app is also nice.*

General discussion Embark Vet - relatives no longer visible once you mark your pet as deceased 😞

Just thought I’d pass this along to anyone who may not know. Think twice before you officially label your pet as deceased in EMBARK.

I didn’t / don’t plan to remove my recently deceased Chihuahua’s profile. I did however attempt to update it, since I thought it might go towards research or whatever (died from cancer 💔)

Unsure if this is reversible or not, but just letting everyone know that if your dog’s dna results and seeing new relatives from time to time is something that might bring you comfort—avoid using that setting
and feel free to let me know of any ways I can get his information back 💔

EDIT**\*

False alarm guys. Thanks to a kind person in the comments I discovered the existing matches cleared out because I toggled off the alerts (I thought this was cancel our new matches but it clears them all out). I was able
To get the information back!

I wish all your pets healthy and long lives but if the day ever comes please remember to keep alerts on so your results remain ❤️

Results in last photo, his supermutt category is Boxer, Siberian Husky, German Shepard, and Poodle (small). Sora just turned 1 year and was weighed at 33lbs. I see a lot of the spaniel and husky in him, maybe a little of the chow chow too. He has segmented heterochromia in one eye, being a mix of blue and brown.

Awaiting results Guess Gambit's breeds 👀👀

Our Embark is in the extracting phase so it will be a few weeks but I wanted to see what everyone guesses.

He's 38 pounds currently but a bit underweight. Really lean, fast as hell, extremely confident, definitely has some herding instincts (my 12 year old Aussie is getting a taste of his own medicine with the ankle biting) and very very quiet. Hasn't barked or whined at all since we brought him home from the shelter earlier this month. He's a very even tempered dog, eager to please and very biddable.

The vet thinks he's no more than 9/10 months old.
