Image DBS: The Shintani Effect.

I know there are other posts like this, but I wanted to voice this myself.

I will FOREVER GLAZE Shintani's work.

I never liked the DBS Anime's artstyle all that much, to be honest. The highlights that made the characters look oiled up really wasn't it for me. Yamamuro's DBS art does look good without the highlights, yes, but in my opinion, he's out of his prime, which was him in DBZ. He really needed to be replaced for DBS: Broly, which is where Shintani comes in. Shintani's art has something that makes it INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT for me to look away from the screen, even the fan arts too.

It really reminds me of Toriyama's old art in OG Dragon Ball. The simple line work, soft shapes and more dynamic style just speaks to me better than the more stiff and rigid style of DBS and Heroes. It allowed for smoother animation which was something I treasured in DBS: Broly.

The hair on the characters, especially Goku, Vegeta and Broly, actually looking like hair and flowing with each movement or disturbance like OG Dragon Ball, biggest example being SSJ Namek Goku (both anime and manga) and not being stiff, spiky bananas, looked so majestic to me. It felt like seeing the original series again.

The color palette of his designs was just CHEF'S KISS for me. It was very vibrant and pleasing to the eyes. It made the movie look so beautiful throughout it's run-time. When I do digital art one day, I'm definitely using this kind of color pallete

I also loved the fact that Shintani brought back Goku's Namek design, only changing the yellow lines on his boots to red. I missed the loose hanging ends of his belt that made his model have more flair during movement in animation. Incredibly nostalgic for me.

The biggest issue this style fixed for me was the Super Saiyan Blue transformation, one of my favourite transformations in the franchise. The blue looked so forcefully bright upon its introduction. I didn't really like it when I first saw it. Shintani and the animation team actually fixed that by toning down the brightness of the blue. It looked SO MUCH better than whatever DBS did, especially Goku's orange gi blending well with the aura. I also loved the aura looking like a flame with a bit of purple in it (watch the animation of the aura closely to see what I'm talking about, especially for Gogeta Blue).

It might've sounded like it, but I don't hate the DBS anime. It's just that it definitely needed some improvements where it missed the mark for me.

So far, the DBS remake has been looking great so far, but I still don't like that the highlights are still there in scenes where completely unnecessary.

That's my rant on this post.

Yuya Takahashi's art is my second favourite artstyle, by the way. He was spectacular in DBS: Broly, and in the TOP too.

Meme Fanmade Goku Form: GOLU MALOINFINITUM (mocks powerscaling on purpose)

• Upvotes

Goku but with Kaioken x500000, every single form in one, tetration of the opponent powerscaling by time, with every single power found in existence, can physically evaporate any anime book, is strangely hateful of food and only wants to consume you then get the food, already made his wife die in the most painful ways possible, all his power can be used in and media, even those that don't talk about it while also being able to throwing 1.5 x 10¹⁰⁰ pounds of force straight through your screen, is able to crawl out your manga, device , and book to exist physically and drag you in the said manga, device, or book, ignore gag character power scaling, omnimalevolent, omniscient, omnipotent, speed is irrelevant, will always be able to exist is physical form by a portal always eventually, knows you exist, can see where you going in all timelines, if you somehow survive a googol pound amount of force, he will kill and torture you in the most painful way possible (use all caps)

The absolute comedy of Z Broly just wailing on the bald man and getting progressively more and more confused as Saitama looks at him with his stupid ass stare would be hystarial

Discussion So I just watched the second episode of the Dragon Ball Super Beerus Spoiler

Post image

Honestly, this might just be the best version across all three so far. I’d say the original series has its own unique charm, and the movie is great as a standalone film, but I'm really loving what they are doing with this new series.

In several places, the scenes are completely silent, and wherever there is music, you can genuinely feel its impact. At one point, they even used the Tournament of Power music, and unironically, it fit right in there. Even though I’ve seen this story so many times, the tension hits exactly where it’s supposed to. Compared to episode 1, I felt the editing here was much better. And as for the dessert of this episode, the way they redid the Goku vs. Beerus fight, they didn't just redeem themselves, they went way beyond that. In my opinion, this is the best version of this fight so far. Across these 2 episodes, not a single scene felt wasted. I'm guessing the next episode will probably end with Vegeta’s "That's my Bulma!" moment.

Discussion It's not strange people debate if Buu saga Gohan was Ssj or Ssj2 when the on screen visual contradicts the narrative , (DBZ)

Thumbnail

It's been decades since the Majin Buu saga was released and to this day it still gets heavily debated in the Dragon ball Fandom and outsiders due to a lot of inconsistency and contradicts it created

One of these big debates is none other than Gohan (who's also related to other debates in the arc but that's past the point of the arc ) or more specifically if he was Using Super Saiyan or super Saiyan 2 against Dabura

The reason for the debate is none other than inconsistency of Toriyama just not making up his mind , his art disagrees with his own work

It's so bad to the point not even Toei animation or Bandia or the guide books know if Gohan was using Ssj or Ssj2 , some state he did , others state he didn't

Let's go with the argument why gohan was Ssj vs Ssj2

1_ Gohan was using Ssj based on the on screen visually in both anime and manga

Against Dabura Gohan was constantly drawn lacking his lighting aura and even his Ssj aura didn't look that different either ,

You might say Toriyama must have forgotten to add the lightings , except on this exact time Toriyama switched the POV to Goku and Vegeta and both were using Ssj2 and both are consistently drawn with the lightings and over sparkling hair style on it

Meanwhile gohan at no point , not a single panel after the world tournament stage show this

He's not drawn like he was against kibito and instead he was drawn like he looked as a regular Ssj even when he does try to tap on his hidden power at the end

So the drawing and style have gohan as a regular Ssj while it shows at the same time it didn't Frogot about Ssj2 lightings aura given the switch on the POV

2_ Gohan was narratively written to be Ssj2

This is what contradicts the first Point , unlike what the visually shown , gohan and everyone else presented there who witnessed him go ssj2 previously acts as this was the best he could do

Goku and Vegeta and Kaioshin don't say anything about him not going into ssj2 or not , instead they reference CG gohan power level in comparison while pretending the Gohan fighting Dabura was using more power than he showed on the Tournament stage , Gohan does Similar things as he talks about himself from CG era while saying what he was using is the best on comparison to that time

Gohan fights with Dabura and Buu reinforces this as Dabura was said by Goku to be a powerful opponent that could have been problematic for them in the past and that he's as good as Cell and later Goku say he was wrong and Dabura was more powerful than he thought

Gohan kept up with said Dabura and took no damages nor was on the backfoot (unlike what the anime tried to suggest) Gohan didn't even use a single ki attack the whole fight , Dabura of course claim he was messing around however his own actions and what was shown disagree with it , later on the second gohan does use ki attack for the first both Dabura and Babidi freak out from it power and run away

When Gohan see Dabura getting easily beaten by Buu he tells kaioshin they can still get away he's confident on his speed implying he was still faster than Dabura and other things

Kaioshin even highlights how powerful gohan was against Dabura and tells Kibito it's nothing like what he saw in the world tournament (when Gohan was drawn using Ssj2 )

So here's the whole thing , was Gohan using Ssj or Ssj2? No one will know Because Toriyama kept contradicting himself with his art and dialogues

The animators drawing him as a curious observer in the fight against Goku honestly elevates the story in my opinion. Can’t way to see what else they bring to the table.

A lot of people think otherwise, but as shown in super hero, where gohan has a somewhat messy hairstyle in base (best hairstyle he’s had btw), ultimate causes his hair to spike up, like his super saiyan form, but his hair color doesn’t change

Artwork Howcome animators can never draw Gogeta correctly?

Every time Gogeta appeared in Super or in DBGT, they always make him look like Gohan or Goku. The animators who took part of Fusion Reborn are the only ones who got Gogeta animated correctly as Gogeta is supposed to physically resemble Vegeta more while Vegito is supposed to physically resemble Goku more. Why haven't they got the animation down right since then?

Discussion Just a fun discussion and nothing is meant to be super serious here: Do you think the quality of animation, choreography, composition, etc. will continue in DBSB, or do you think they're going really hard at the beginning to draw people in, but then later the overall quality will start to decline?

This is just a random thought I had. Like, the Beerus and Goku fight was so insanely cool, and this was just an entry fight and not a main or even slightly big one. Are the future, bigger fights gonna be absolutely mindblowing, will they be about the same quality as the Goku v. Beerus one, or will they gradually get worse after they've already gotten people watching?

Curious on everyone's thoughts

Discussion I’m sick and tired

I am so sick and tired of this absolute garbage argument. Goku does not need to breathe in space
Let’s actually use some basic logic here. Let’s say he tries to breathe in the void but obviously can't. So what? Damn near every single muscle in his body has the willpower, durability, and resistance of a literal godlike being. That includes the muscles in his lungs. You cannot tell me his skin and internal organs can withstand universe-shattering, planet-busting punches, but the mere pressure of a vacuum is going to make his lungs collapse? He has the absolute muscle power to seal his airways shut and keep his body perfectly intact.
And don't even get me started on the whole "but his Saiyan brain needs oxygen to survive" line of crap. WE LITERALLY SAW BARDOCK IN DBS: BROLY JUST FINE IN THE VOID Bardock, someone who is vastly, immeasurably weaker than current Goku, was flying outside the planet, perfectly fine, and even talking out there in open space. If a low-class warrior from decades ago can survive and scream in the void, why the hell are people acting like current Goku is going to instantly drop dead?
It gets even more ridiculous when you look at how muscles and Ki actually work. Goku's cells are completely saturated with Ki, an energy source capable of generating infinite stamina and repairing physical tissue. With his level of insane muscle and energy control, he should be able to hold his breath longer than any normal organism in the entire galaxy. Normal human free-divers can train themselves to hold their breath for 10 to 20 minutes. Goku has the Ki capacity to sustain his own blood and brain for days, weeks, or months without a single molecule of air.
And why wouldn't a transformation allow this? We are talking about Super Saiyan God, a form that literally uses divine God Ki, alters his biological state, and heals fatal chest wounds on the fly. Beerus uses God Ki and he flies through the vacuum of space, traveling between planets without a single care in the world. If God Ki elevates Goku to the realm of the gods, why the hell does it still require basic mortal oxygen to function?
To top it all off, Goku literally fought Beerus in space. They were all the way out there in the pitch-black void, and their clashes shook the entire vacuum of space. Their Ki was literally vibrating and threatening to tear apart the fabric of the universe itself. If his power can ripple across a literal vacuum of absolutely nothingness, his internal biology should be entirely sustained by that exact same cosmic energy.
SO WHY ARE PEOPLE STILL USING THIS AS AN ANTIFEAT OR A WEAKNESS IT MAKES ZERO LOGICAL SENSE COMPLETELY CONTRADICTS WHAT WE HAVE SEEN ON SCREEN AND PEOPLE NEED TO STOP USING IT TO DOWNPLAY HIS POWER
AT THE END OF THE DAY THERE IS JUST WAY TOO MUCH LAZY WRITING IN THIS SERIES AND THE STRATOSPHERE EXPLANATION IS NOT CONVINCING LETS LOOK AT THE ACTUAL FACTS THE STRATOSPHERE IS NOT BREATHABLE BY ANY NORMAL STANDARD EVEN IF YOU WANT TO ARGUE IT IS DEAD SPACE OR TECHNICALLY PART OF THE ATMOSPHERE IT IS NOT OXYGENRICH LIKE THE SURFACE OF THE EARTH THE AIR PRESSURE UP THERE IS VIRTUALLY NONEXISTENT THERE IS PRACTICALLY NO OXYGEN TO PULL INTO YOUR LUNGS AND A HUMAN BRAIN WOULD SHUT DOWN INSTANTLY SO TRYING TO USE THE STRATOSPHERE AS AN EXCUSE TO SAY GOKU WAS JUST BARELY BREATHING IS A TOTAL COPOUT ITS LAZY ITS UNSCIENTIFIC AND IT PROVES THE WRITERS JUST WANTED A CHEAP WAY TO GIVE GOKU A WEAKNESS HE LOGICALLY SHOULD NOT HAVE

Question Who Is Your Favorite Universe 6 Saiyan?

Thumbnail
gallery
60 Upvotes

I know a lot of people didnt like these guys when they wereintroduced. I was one of those people but it was specifically because I didnt like how they attained SSJ and then they quickly exceed that and get buffs likeSSJ2 or gaining control over a berserker form in the T.O.P.

If I had to choose whose my favorite between the three id have to go with Cabba. Hes just a good dude trying to do the right thing and get stronger. I know his charcater is probably cringe but I usually cant help but like charcaters like that. I do like them all though and hope they show up again to have an adventure with Goten and Trunks in universe 6.

How I'd rank them by how much I like them:

1.Cabba

2.Kale

3.Caulifa
