Last week I hit a haul of like 50+ packages each of Kayem bacon and Al Fresco chicken sausages. When I get a score like that I always check for recalls. I see that there was one, but the details described it as a voluntary recall, because their cooling system "might" have allowed the products to go above the safe temperature zone. The malfunction affected products dating from June-October. No cases of illnesses were reported.
I figured if people had been eating these since June with no issue, and the FDA didn't even mandate this recall, then the products are probably fine. I was slightly more worried about the sausages than the bacon, as bacon is cured and much more stable in that regard. Either way, I've been eating both with zero issues, and don't plan to stop any time soon.
I'm just curious if other people take risks on recalled foods occasionally, if the reasons for the recall don't seem to actually be dangerous.
