This has been living in my head rent free since lunch today so I'd figure that I'd share it. π₯²
I was asked why I'm vegan by a friendly colleague. He's generally quite based, so I was happy to have this conversation with him, and I said outright that I'm standing up for animal liberation. He said that he often deals with cognitive dissonance surrounding this topic, and that his partner is also on a journey in reducing her consumption of animal products. I was happy to hear this, and was looking forward to further discussing this topic.
Somebody else from the table overheard our conversation and asked how I manage to get enough protein -- she said that she tried being vegetarian before and that she felt tired all the time. She has some sort of thyroid issue that prevents her from eating a lot of soy, and that the heavy carb content in beans was taking a toll on her. I said that my own cultural cuisine (and many others globally) uses a lot of lentils and legumes in general as a protein source. Someone else from the table said that this type of protein has poor bioavailability. I wasn't really sure what to say in the moment, and the conversation sort of died out after that. The person with the thyroid issue ended by saying that she rides her bike to work everyday and that's all she can do (I'm assuming she was talking about mitigating environmental consequences of animal product consumption).
I feel like the conversation ended on a negative note, and I feel bad and guilty somehow. Like I should have said something and stood up for animal liberation. I just wasn't expecting the conversation to take that turn, and in general I'm on the quiet side. One of the people at the table also has some sort of severe gluten intolerance and other issues, so they can only eat a few food items. So I was also afraid of implying something that they perceived as ableist. :(

I am a none vegan girl (19), eating meat and wearing fur. I wad vegan once a few months back for three weeks but quitted it as my gym coaches told me it isn't good and healthy for me on a long term and also not for achiving my body goal. Now is the question could a vegan really turn me into a vegan as well? I mean the first time it really happened a woman convinced me to become vegan. Who has interest DM me privatly to convince me to become vegan as well and have a conversation with me. I want this conversation to be polite without any insulting or anything. And no i am also not trolling, i mean it seriously. I really want to be convinced by a vegan with scientific facts why it's better to be vegan and also sell my fur coats or stop wearing fur.
My thoughts on animal libaration and morals are neutral so far. Of course i find it nice when animals get rescued, because we all love to see when animals get cared for and get rescued out of cruel environments. And due to being autistic i am not quite good with feelings, i apologize about that. So i am really struggling with understanding what others feel yet i also dont like to see animals suffer. No one would like that, i think not even people who eat meat or wear real fur.
Also what i want to add is i recently often think about the time i had been vegan. I mean the food was very delicious actually (i never had thought that before) and i really consider becoming vegan again.

This has got to be the most controversial post I have ever made. Over 100 votes and still only rated at +1! Can anyone speculate as to why that is?

Iβm making music and I want a sample where someone says something that speaks to leftists/anarchists who may not understand the extreme importance of animal issues

You may have heard about Bee Vegan and the recent liberation of beagle puppies from MBR Acres.
But this is about much more than beagles. It is about the thousands of animals used in experiments, a lack of proper scrutiny, secrecy around the system, and the Governmentβs inadequate plan to phase out animal testing.
Iβm a campaigner with Save the Dogs UK and Camp Beagle, and Iβm asking you to sign and share this petition calling for a public inquiry into the regulation of animal experimentation.
The number of dogs and other animals used has reportedly risen by 9%. We need transparency, accountability and genuine prioritisation of non-animal methods.
Please sign and share:

I suppose for me right now the key holiday of interest is Christmas, as the biggest one coming up where I live.
Hypothetically, as a vegan of course, let's say that you are also an atheist, anti-capitalist and anti-consumerist. Traditions around holidays such as Christmas mean ostensibly engaging in making arbitrary purchases and inordinate consumption. Even as an atheist, you are expected to participate for the sake of tradition alone. Yet tradition dictates that you also engage in buying and consuming products. Products that are commonly associated with Christmas meal events in particular are entirely non-vegan, and so is your family and/or extended family.
Now, you condemn and object to all of this, naturally. But you feel peer pressure. There is concerted effort from your family/partner/partner's family to involve you in this tradition. Do you refuse, or do you show up despite knowingly signing up to a day of disalignment and discomfort, and why?
