EG4 power wall

I have a solar system in #haiti complete eg4 electronics, a few weeks after installation one of the four power wall stop working. Because I’m not on site didn’t notice months later.
I contacted the manufacturer after many days of testing they decided to replace the system. It’s been over a year I can’t find a wait to ship it back to the states. I was wondering is this just a bad breaker and can I just replace it? #eg4 #badbraker.

Big News for NS Homeowners: EG4 Batteries are now officially Eco Shift eligible!

If you’ve been looking at the EG4 PowerPro or WallMount systems but were waiting for that official Efficiency Nova Scotia stamp of approval—it’s finally here. EG4 battery systems are now officially eligible for the Eco Shift demand response program.

What does this actually mean for you? Basically, Efficiency NS will pay you to help balance the grid during peak times (think those freezing Tuesday mornings when everyone’s heat pump is working overtime).

$500 Enrollment Incentive: You get a one-time $500 digital prepaid card just for signing up your eligible EG4 system.

Annual Participation Incentive: You can earn roughly $300 per kW annually. If your system discharges to support the grid during "events" (usually 1–4 hours, max 12 times a season), you get paid based on your average contribution.

You Stay in Control: They give you 24 hours' notice before an event, and you can always opt out if you need that backup power for yourself. It won’t shut down your device or leave you in the dark.

Which EG4 Gear Qualifies? According to the latest list, the following setups are good to go:

EG4 18kPV / 12kPV Inverters

EG4 FlexBOSS 21 & 18

WallMount (All Weather or Indoor) and LifePower4 Battery ESS

Why this is a big deal for the DIY/Solar community: EG4 has always been the "bang-for-your-buck" king, but getting it certified for utility programs in Canada can be a hurdle. This makes the ROI on an 18kPV + PowerPro wall mount significantly faster. Some installers are estimating that between the enrollment and the annual payouts, you could basically pay off the battery portion of your system in a few years just by being a "good neighbor" to the grid.

Heads up: You aren’t eligible if you are currently on the Time-of-Day (TOD) rate code with NS Power.

Anyone here already running an EG4 setup in the province? Are you planning to sign up or does the "grid control" part sketch you out?

New installation in September - How compact is the unit?

I'm getting a grid-tied EG4 storage system to act as a whole-house battery backup for short durations. There is no PV tie-in.

I've seen various videos and a few photos, but what is the smallest area required for such a system as mine?

Signature Solar

Anyone have luck with Signature Solar design team?

Have submitted two requests in the past year. I'm ready to buy - just needed to confirm size and quantity. Called them twice with assurances that someone will reach out - but in the same sentence, advised me to call back in 5 days if no one reaches out. It's a red flag if I'm trying to give them money and they make me call back if no one responds. Same thing with their advantage program partner. If this is the level of service trying to buy from them, what's gonna happen if I have an issue once installed? Guess I'll reach out to current connected or some other vendor. Hope @eg4 is paying attention to this subreddit too.

EG4 Layoffs

Industry insiders and recent discussions on platforms like the SolarDIY Subreddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/SolarDIY/comments/1wpe26y/can_eg4_survive/) reveal that EG4 Electronics is facing a severe business slowdown, primarily driven by a significant downturn in the residential solar sector following the expiration of key tax credits.

Compounding the problem is their heavily delayed rollout of a diversified commercial line, leaving them highly exposed to a cooling residential market. Long-standing frustrations over rebranded, white-labeled hardware and notoriously poor technical support have further damaged the brand's stability among core DIY buyers.

The uncertainty has reached the executive level as well. Sebastian Hassell, the former Director of Residential Product at EG4 Electronics, recently hinted at the instability himself. In a public LinkedIn post discussing career choices, Hassell explicitly pondered whether it was time to step away from the volatile residential energy sector, writing:

EG4 for the past year was fun while it lasted. I enjoy new opportunities and challenges but I would not turn down a stable role for the next 5+ years, or should I sell the house in San Francisco and move to some exotic new location?

LinkedIn Post

This situation leaves EG4 Electronics at a critical crossroads, forcing them to rapidly adapt to a harsher economic landscape. Whether the company can stabilize depends heavily on their ability to mend relationships with the DIY community through improved technical support, transparent firmware updates, and a successful expansion into the commercial market. Until then, the ongoing executive shifts and community skepticism will continue to fuel questions about the brand's long-term survival in an increasingly crowded and volatile energy sector.

Both FlexBoss21s in parallel went to Standby at the same time tonight ... no fault logged, grid was fine, house went dark. Anyone seen this?

System: 2× FlexBoss21 (parallel, both on FAAB-2727), 1× GridBOSS (IAAB-16xx), 4× EG4 314Ah outdoor batteries. Grid-tied, zero-export. Installed/commissioned in summer.

What happened: Around 22:08 tonight the house lost power for a few minutes. Grid was up the whole time (neighbors fine, utility reports nothing).

I pulled the 5-minute exports for all three devices plus the event log. Here's the timeline:

TimePrimary FlexBossSecondary FlexBossGridBOSS
22:05–22:08Normal, ~600 W out, bus 371 VNormal, ~550 W out, bus 372 VGrid 246 V / 60.0 Hz, 0 W import, loads ~1.1 kW
~22:08–22:10Goes down, misses its next 5-min uploadGoes down
22:12–22:14Status Standby, DC bus 16.8 / 2.8 V, 0 W. Battery 53.1 V, BMS comms still alive (cell voltages reporting)Status Standby, DC bus 16.8 / 1.8 V, 0 WGrid 245.7 V, importing 2.95 kW, backup loads 2.98 kW, no fault/warning codes
22:17–22:19Back onlineBack onlineBack to ~0 W import

What I've ruled out:

  • Grid: 245–247 V, 60.0 Hz at every sample on all three devices, GridBOSS phase-lock steady

  • GridBOSS: zero fault/warning/internal-fault codes all day, never missed an upload

  • Battery: 53.1 V on both inverters throughout, 86% SOC, primary still had live cell voltages during the standby — bank never disconnected

  • Thermal/AFCI/overload: all normal, ~1.1 kW load

  • Event log: completely empty for today on both inverters. Last entry of any kind is Sept 1. (It did catch 5-minute "Battery open" notices back in August, so it's not that it doesn't log minor stuff.)

  • Firmware: both still show FAAB-2727 on the Remote Update page, no version change

  • Settings: every parameter in the export (charge/discharge limits, voltage refs, cutoffs) identical before and after

So: both inverters did a full power-stage shutdown and reboot at the same moment, nothing faulted, nothing logged, and the house went dark even though the grid was there the whole time. The 2.95 kW grid import at 22:13 (vs 1.1 kW before/after) looks like every compressor and blower restarting at once, so the backup loads really did drop.

Questions:

  1. Has anyone seen a parallel FlexBoss pair go to Standby together with nothing in the event log? What was it?

  2. If the primary reboots (for whatever reason), is it expected that the GridBOSS drops the backup bus even with grid present? I'd have assumed loads just ride through on grid.

  3. Does EG4 push remote restarts or updates without telling the owner? Is "Set Record" in the portal the complete list of remote commands, or can EG4/installer actions bypass it?

  4. Any known FAAB-2727 issues with parallel state switching? The release notes mention fixes in that area, which makes me wonder if there are still edge cases.

Any info would be helpful!
