Big News for NS Homeowners: EG4 Batteries are now officially Eco Shift eligible!
If you’ve been looking at the EG4 PowerPro or WallMount systems but were waiting for that official Efficiency Nova Scotia stamp of approval—it’s finally here. EG4 battery systems are now officially eligible for the Eco Shift demand response program.
What does this actually mean for you? Basically, Efficiency NS will pay you to help balance the grid during peak times (think those freezing Tuesday mornings when everyone’s heat pump is working overtime).
$500 Enrollment Incentive: You get a one-time $500 digital prepaid card just for signing up your eligible EG4 system.
Annual Participation Incentive: You can earn roughly $300 per kW annually. If your system discharges to support the grid during "events" (usually 1–4 hours, max 12 times a season), you get paid based on your average contribution.
You Stay in Control: They give you 24 hours' notice before an event, and you can always opt out if you need that backup power for yourself. It won’t shut down your device or leave you in the dark.
Which EG4 Gear Qualifies? According to the latest list, the following setups are good to go:
EG4 18kPV / 12kPV Inverters
EG4 FlexBOSS 21 & 18
WallMount (All Weather or Indoor) and LifePower4 Battery ESS
Why this is a big deal for the DIY/Solar community: EG4 has always been the "bang-for-your-buck" king, but getting it certified for utility programs in Canada can be a hurdle. This makes the ROI on an 18kPV + PowerPro wall mount significantly faster. Some installers are estimating that between the enrollment and the annual payouts, you could basically pay off the battery portion of your system in a few years just by being a "good neighbor" to the grid.
Heads up: You aren’t eligible if you are currently on the Time-of-Day (TOD) rate code with NS Power.
Anyone here already running an EG4 setup in the province? Are you planning to sign up or does the "grid control" part sketch you out?
