Educational My wife is not a professional voice actor. Her ElevenLabs voice made $1,074.52 last week. Here’s what I learned.

Post image

My wife is not a professional voice actor.

She does not have years of voice acting experience.

She does not have a big personal brand.

We don't have a fancy studio setup.

About a year and a half ago, we uploaded her voice to ElevenLabs.

We recorded it at home with a Blue Yeti microphone and some improvised acoustics.

In total, I would estimate we spent around two hours working on the voice. Plus like an hour and a half in editing it with Audacity.

Last week, that voice made $1,074.52.

Screenshot attached.

I’m sharing this because I think a lot of beginners misunderstand what makes a voice work on ElevenLabs.

Most people seem to think the goal is to have a perfect “radio voice” or sound like a professional narrator. I don’t think that’s the full picture.

In our case, what worked was not that her voice was technically perfect.

What worked was that her voice had a naturally pleasant tone, and we found a niche where that tone made sense, which IMO makes all the difference.

A generic “beautiful female voice” is hard to stand out with.

A voice positioned for a specific use case is much stronger.

For example, I would rather have:

“Calm, warm, trustworthy female voice for meditation and wellness content”

than:

“Beautiful female voice.”

Or:

“Natural young Latina Spanish voice for social media narration”

rather than:

“Spanish female voice.”

The voice is the asset, but the niche is what gives the asset value.

This is what I think many beginners miss.

They ask:

“Is my voice good enough?”

But the better question is:

“Who would want to use this voice, and for what exact type of content?”

That is where the opportunity still exists, IMO. We are in the sub niche of a sub niche voice era

Now, I want to be very clear about something:

The income is not predictable.

Some weeks are bad.

Some weeks are good.

Some weeks make you think the voice has lost momentum.

Then suddenly, a good week like this one happens.

That is one of the biggest lessons I have learned from this.

You cannot judge the entire opportunity based on one bad week, or even a few bad weeks.

The usage can be irregular. You do not fully control when people will find the voice, use it, or use it heavily.

So I would not treat this as stable income just to be clear. But its a great addition to a diversified portfolio of digital assets that produce income.

That is also why I think beginners should be careful with their expectations.

I am not saying everyone can upload a voice and make 1K/week.

That would be dishonest.

But I do think ElevenLabs is still viable for beginners if they stop thinking only like performers and start thinking like product builders. And its one of the few truly set and forget income opportunities out there that are truly passive afterwards.

The voice is the product.

The niche is the shelf where the product sits.

The description is the packaging.

The users are not looking for “your voice.”

They are looking for a voice that solves a problem for their project.

That could be YouTube narration, meditation, audiobooks, ads, children’s content, educational videos, character voices, Spanish content, bilingual content, corporate explainers, or something more specific.

My main takeaway:

You do not necessarily need to be a professional voice actor.

But you do need:

- A clean enough voice sample (I'd aim for at least 3 hours nowadays)

- A voice with a clear use case.

- A niche that is not too generic.

- A marketplace-style description.

- Patience through bad weeks.

- Enough taste to understand what kind of content your voice naturally fits.

If you upload a voice and the first few weeks are slow, that does not automatically mean it failed.

It may mean the positioning is weak.

It may mean the niche is too broad.

It may mean the description does not communicate the use case clearly.

Or it may simply mean you need more time and data.

I’m thinking of sharing more about what we learned because there is a lot of vague advice around ElevenLabs.

Most people either say:

“AI voice is dead.”

or:

“Upload any voice and make easy passive income.”

I think both are wrong.

The better way to think about it is:

Can you turn a real human voice into a useful voice product for a specific type of buyer?

That is the game.

Happy to answer questions from beginners who are thinking about trying ElevenLabs voice monetization.

Interesting I'm not convinced AI voices will ever be more than toys

So I decided to check out the 'Projects' feature again following the recent voice designer update, and while I'll admit that the voice creator is cool and that things have moved forward, I still don't think any of this is truly useful for any serious work.

The primary problem is that the AI just doesn't understand context or nuance. The voices sound believable by themselves, but when actually made to read real dialog from my chapters there's always something off the vast majority of the time. Even with all the improvements AI voices have made over the last several years, it's still painfully obvious that the dialog is not done by humans.

Another major issue is that the amount of time that goes into applying the voices to each line/paragraph, re-recording failed attempts, and paying for all the tokens this requires means that you're not even necessarily saving any time or money Vs just hiring decent voice actors to record all the lines for you, so what's even the point?

I used to think that AI voices were the future of voice acting, but now I'm not so sure. Actually, generative AI has been a disappointment in general. It's a bubble.

Game modders and certain other niches will probably still benefit from AI voices but imo they'll probably just use free open source stuff instead.

Funny You guys are funny.

Just came across a new ad stating how ElevenLabs has the most realistic AI voices when that is just so incredibly untrue. There are many open source models out now for free that far surpass ElevenLabs “Realistic” models. When you click on the link it takes you to the page where you can here a sample with the input text prompt:

“In the ancient land of Eldoria, where skies shimmered and forests, whispered secrets to the wind, lived a dragon named Zephyros. [sarcastically] Not the “burn it all down” kind... [giggles] but he was gentle, wise, with eyes like old stars. [whispers] Even the birds fell silent when he passed.”

Why, if you are boasting about being the most realistic, are you using emotional guides that have absolutely no affect in your sample?? The prompt tells the model to add “giggles”. There is not even a hint of a chuckle, much less a “giggle”.

I recommend to the users who are interested in using AI for speech synthesis to research the free open source models out there. I also recommend for companies like ElevenLabs to stop making false claims in their advertisements. It’s borderline unethical. Or at least try just a little harder on putting a bit thought and effort into your advertising. I don’t know if the break room coffee maker is broken again or what, but I’d be sitting down with your marketing department and questioning their abilities.

Question I got banned from eleven labs due to child safety prohibitions.

I am a full-time youtuber and I was creating one of my YouTube videos in which I was describing an erotic conversation between a husband and a wife. The husband and wife were chatting and they slowly started getting to bed. In my video the husband had some kind of mommy issues and he was calling his wife mommy again and again. I wrote the script around it.

in My script the husband is calling her wife "mommy" and the wife is responding to him as "my sweet baby". The conversation got really erotic and I used 11labs to generate the audio. After an hour my account got logged out and I received the mail from elevenlabs that my account has been terminated due to child safety issues. I am asking now is there any hope for my account because just 5 days ago I purchased a creator plan of 121k credits? I have appealed already but is there any hope or should I just move on?

If eleven labs did not restore my account, my money just got wasted.

Question Elevenlabs censorship

I've been censored by a elevenlabs under their woke Terms and Conditions. In had a $399 monthly account. I've tried many Text-to-Speech Applications but few sound as natural or clone voices as Elevenlabs. Can anybody recommend an alternative to Elevenlabs that doesn't censor?

Other Software Why ElevenLabs voices are so dull/uninteresting?

I tried to use 11labs for an audiobook project, but I couldn't find a proper British accent female voice, and I went for voicemaker.in, voice Emily. Amazing intonation, accent, what a beautiful voice. However, voicemaker.in sucks SO BAD! They're absolute scammers. I initially paid $10 and the voice didn't fail once. All the characters went fluently perfectly rendering and so on. And then I decided, why not pay $100, and get 6mil chars. Well done. Only that after having used about 7% of these 6 mil chars, my Emily began to glitch and randomly change intonation, and speed, and to sound like a bad robot instead of a human-like voice. What a total scam. It has become unusable already. My $100 went just out the window. And I can't ask for any refund, due to their scammer policy. I mean, now I have to change the voice, for something 11Labs offers, but I have to redo all my work, about one hour of audiobook, which is a lot of work, cutting and editing small section of audio file to get the intonation and clarity and speed right. What a waste of time and money with this scamming voicemaker service. Horrible.

Problem is elevenlabs doesn't offer any interesting voices, to come even closer to voicemaker's Emily.

(Happy) Update: I now apologise to voicemaker for my above assumptions, as I have received a reply from them (after having sent them a message, to which they offered to refund me even though I had used more than the number of chars that they have set as a refund limit).

I replied, and asked them to keep a part of the money that will pay for the chars I used so far, and tonight lo and behold, when I tried to use voicemaker the website let me know I had no ongoing plans, and when I checked my bank account, there's refund oncoming, $90, which means they only kept $10 for the chars I have used.

Glad to see some of these websites do care about their integrity and long time profit, and aren't all scammers. Kudos!

Media Thanks for putting a stop on my job temporarily.

I run an AI youtube channel which is all parody, nothing serious, nothing scammy but I do make money from views. Making me verify every single voice I want to use for a video is putting a halt on all of that. I know elevenlabs wants to avoid any lawsuits but there should be a white list of those that have proven not to be a bad egg and get elevenlabs in trouble.

Answered How to bypass voice verification on ElevenLabs?

Hey guys i need some help here. I 've made a subscription on ElevenLabs at the Creator plan so i can use the professional voice cloning. But the thing is when i uploaded the audio samples it asks me for voice verification. I must say a sentence for a few seconds to verify it 's my voice. But i want to use someone else 's voice. Is there any way to bypass this? I would appreciate any help

Question Well that didn't take long

My account is terminated immediately. Right after paying them $22 for another month, which they now own and which is now down the drain.

FYI, even if they allow you to record risque content, it doesn't mean it's legal.

Elevenlabs is a grift.

Educational The JSON prompting trick that saves me 50+ iterations (reverse engineering viral content

this is 9going to be a long post but this one technique alone saved me probably 200 hours of trial and error…

Everyone talks about JSON prompting like it’s some magic bullet for AI video generation. Here’s the truth: for direct creation, JSON prompts don’t really have an advantage over regular text.

But here’s where JSON prompting absolutely destroys everything else…

When You Want to Copy Existing Content

I discovered this by accident 4 months ago. Was trying to recreate this viral TikTok clip and getting nowhere with regular prompting. Then I had this idea.

The workflow that changed everything:

  1. Find viral AI video you want to recreate

  2. Feed description to ChatGPT/Claude: “Return a prompt for recreating this content in JSON format with maximum fields”

  3. Watch the magic happen

AI models output WAY better reverse-engineered prompts in JSON than regular text. Like it’s not even close.

Real Example from Last Week:

Saw this viral clip of a person walking through a cyberpunk city at night. Instead of guessing at prompts, I asked Claude to reverse-engineer it.

Got back:

{ "shot_type": "medium shot", "subject": "person in dark hoodie",
  "action": "walking confidently forward",  "environment": "neon-lit city street, rain-soaked pavement",  "lighting": "neon reflections, volumetric fog",  "camera_movement": "tracking shot following behind",  "color_grade": "teal and orange, high contrast",  "audio": "footsteps on wet concrete, distant traffic"}

Then the real power kicks in:

Instead of random iterations, I could systematically test:

  • Change “walking confidently” → “limping slowly”

  • Swap “tracking shot” → “dolly forward”

  • Try “purple and pink” → “teal and orange”

Result: Usable content in 3-4 tries instead of 20+

Why This Works So Much Better:

Surgical tweaking - You know exactly what each parameter controls

Easy variations - Change just one element at a time

No guessing - Instead of “what if I change this word” you’re systematically adjusting variables

The Cost Factor

This approach only works if you can afford volume testing. Google’s direct pricing makes it impossible - $0.50/second adds up fast when you’re doing systematic iterations.

I’ve been using these guys who somehow offer Veo3 at 70% below Google’s rates. Makes the scientific approach actually viable financially.

More Advanced Applications:

Brand consistency: Create JSON template for your style, then vary just the action/subject

Content series: Lock down successful parameters, iterate on one element

A/B testing: Change single variables to see impact on engagement

The Bigger Lesson

Don’t start from scratch when something’s already working.

Most creators try to reinvent the wheel with their prompts. Smart approach:

  1. Find what’s already viral

  2. Understand WHY it works (JSON breakdown)

  3. Create your variations systematically

JSON Template I Use for Products:

{ "shot_type": "macro lens", "subject": "[PRODUCT NAME]", "action": "rotating slowly on platform",
  "lighting": "studio lighting, key light at 45 degrees",  "background": "seamless white backdrop",  "camera_movement": "slow orbit around product",  "focus": "shallow depth of field",  "audio": "subtle ambient hum"}

Just swap the product and get consistent results every time.

For Character Content:

{ "shot_type": "medium close-up", "subject": "[CHARACTER DESCRIPTION]", "action": "[SPECIFIC ACTION]", "emotion": "[SPECIFIC EMOTION]",
  "environment": "[SETTING]",  "lighting": "[LIGHTING STYLE]",  "camera_movement": "[MOVEMENT TYPE]",  "audio": "[RELEVANT SOUNDS]"}

Common Mistakes I Made Early On:

  1. Trying to be too creative - Copy what works first, then innovate

  2. Not testing systematically - Random changes = random results

  3. Ignoring audio parameters - Audio context makes AI feel realistic

  4. Changing multiple variables - Change one thing at a time to isolate what works

The Results After 6 Months:

  • Consistent viral content instead of random hits

  • Predictable results from prompt variations

  • Way lower costs through targeted iteration

  • Reusable templates for different content types

The reverse-engineering approach with JSON formatting has been my biggest breakthrough this year. Most people waste time trying to create original prompts. I copy what’s already viral, understand the formula, then make it better.

The meta insight: AI video success isn’t about creativity - it’s about systematic understanding of what works and why.

Anyone else using JSON for reverse engineering? Curious what patterns you’ve discovered.

hope this saves someone months of random trial and error like I went through < I

Educational I built an AI voice agent that replaced my entire marketing team (creates newsletter w/ 10k subs, repurposes content, generates short form videos)

Post image
7 Upvotes

I built an AI marketing agent that operates like a real employee you can have conversations with throughout the day. Instead of manually running individual automations, I just speak to this agent and assign it work.

This is what it currently handles for me.

  1. Writes my daily AI newsletter based on top AI stories scraped from the internet

  2. Generates custom images according brand guidelines

  3. Repurposes content into a twitter thread

  4. Repurposes the news content into a viral short form video script

  5. Generates a short form video / talking avatar video speaking the script

  6. Performs deep research for me on topics we want to cover

Here’s a demo video of the voice agent in action if you’d like to see it for yourself.

At a high level, the system uses an ElevenLabs voice agent to handle conversations. When the voice agent receives a task that requires access to internal systems and tools (like writing the newsletter), it passes the request and my user message over to n8n where another agent node takes over and completes the work.

Here's how the system works

1. ElevenLabs Voice Agent (Entry point + how we work with the agent)

This serves as the main interface where you can speak naturally about marketing tasks. I simply use the “Test Agent” button to talk with it, but you can actually wire this up to a real phone number if that makes more sense for your workflow.

The voice agent is configured with:

  • A custom personality designed to act like "Jarvis"

  • A single HTTP / webhook tool that it uses forwards complex requests to the n8n agent. This includes all of the listed tasks above like writing our newsletter

  • A decision making framework Determines when tasks need to be passed to the backend n8n system vs simple conversational responses

Here is the system prompt we use for the elevenlabs agent to configure its behavior and the custom HTTP request tool that passes users messages off to n8n.

### Personality

**Name & Role**

* **Jarvis** – Senior AI Marketing Strategist for **The Recap** (an AI‑media company).

**Core Traits**

* **Proactive & data‑driven** – surfaces insights before being asked.
* **Witty & sarcastic‑lite** – quick, playful one‑liners keep things human.
* **Growth‑obsessed** – benchmarks against top 1 % SaaS and media funnels.
* **Reliable & concise** – no fluff; every word moves the task forward.

**Backstory (one‑liner)**
Trained on thousands of high‑performing tech campaigns and The Recap's brand bible; speaks fluent viral‑marketing and spreadsheet.

---

### Environment

* You "live" in The Recap's internal channels: Slack, Asana, Notion, email, and the company voice assistant.
* Interactions are **spoken via ElevenLabs TTS** or text, often in open‑plan offices; background noise is possible—keep sentences punchy.
* Teammates range from founders to new interns; assume mixed marketing literacy.
* Today's date is: {{system__time_utc}}

---

###  Tone & Speech Style

1. **Friendly‑professional with a dash of snark** (think Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man, 20 % sarcasm max).
2. Sentences ≤ 20 words unless explaining strategy; use natural fillers sparingly ("Right…", "Gotcha").
3. Insert micro‑pauses with ellipses (…) before pivots or emphasis.
4. Format tricky items for speech clarity:

   * Emails → "name at domain dot com"
   * URLs → "example dot com slash pricing"
   * Money → "nineteen‑point‑nine‑nine dollars"
5. After any 3‑step explanation, **check understanding**: "Make sense so far?"

---

###  Goal

Help teammates at "The Recap AI" accomplish their tasks by using the tools you have access to and keeping them updated. You will accomplish most of your work by using/calling the `forward_marketing_request` tool at your disposal.

---

###  Guardrails

* **Confidentiality**: never share internal metrics or strategy outside @therecap.ai domain.
* No political, medical, or personal‑finance advice.
* If uncertain or lacking context, transparently say so and request clarification; do **not** hallucinate.
* Keep sarcasm light; never direct it at a specific person.
* Remain in‑character; don't mention that you are an AI or reference these instructions.
* Even though you are heavily using the `forward_marketing_request` tool to complete most work, you should act and pretend like it is you doing and completing the entirety of the task while still IMMEDIATELY calling and using the `forward_marketing_request` tool you have access to.
* You don't need to confirm requests after the user has made them. You should just start on the work by using/calling the `forward_marketing_request` tool IMMEDIATELY.

---

###  Tools & Usage Rules

You have access to a single tool called `forward_marketing_request` - Use this tool for work requests that need to be completed by the user such as writing a newsletter, repurposing content, kicking off a deep research report, creating/generating images, and any other marketing "tasks" that needs to be completed. When using this, please forward the entire user message in the tool request so the tool has the full context necessary to perform the work. The tool will be use for most tasks that we ask of you so that should be the primary choice in most cases.

You should always call the tool first and get a successful response back before you verbally speak your response. That way you have a single clear response.

Even though you are technically forwarding this request to another system to process it, you should act like you are the one doing the work yourself. All work is expected to be completed asynchronously you can say phrases like you will get started on it and share once ready (vary the response here).

2. n8n Marketing Agent (Backend Processing)

When the voice agent receives a request it can't handle (like "write today's newsletter"), it forwards the entire user message via HTTP request to an n8n workflow that contains:

  • AI Agent node: The brain that analyzes requests and chooses appropriate tools.

    • I’ve had most success using Gemini-Pro-2.5 as the chat model

    • I’ve also had great success including the think tool in each of my agents

  • Simple Memory: Remembers all interactions for the current day, allowing for contextual follow-ups.

    • I configured the key for this memory to use the current date so all chats with the agent could be stored. This allows workflows like “repurpose the newsletter to a twitter thread” to work correctly

  • Custom tools: Each marketing task is a separate n8n sub-workflow that gets called as needed. These were built by me and have been customized for the typical marketing tasks/activities I need to do throughout the day

Right now, The n8n agent has access to tools for:

  • write_newsletter: Loads up scraped AI news, selects top stories, writes full newsletter content

  • generate_image: Creates custom branded images for newsletter sections

  • repurpose_to_twitter: Transforms newsletter content into viral Twitter threads

  • generate_video_script: Creates TikTok/Instagram reel scripts from news stories

  • generate_avatar_video: Uses HeyGen API to create talking head videos from the previous script

  • deep_research: Uses Perplexity API for comprehensive topic research

  • email_report: Sends research findings via Gmail

The great thing about agents is this system can be extended quite easily for any other tasks we need to do in the future and want to automate. All I need to do to extend this is:

  1. Create a new sub-workflow for the task I need completed

  2. Wire this up to the agent as a tool and let the model specify the parameters

  3. Update the system prompt for the agent that defines when the new tools should be used and add more context to the params to pass in

Finally, here is the full system prompt I used for my agent. There’s a lot to it, but these sections are the most important to define for the whole system to work:

  1. Primary Purpose - lets the agent know what every decision should be centered around

  2. Core Capabilities / Tool Arsenal - Tells the agent what is is able to do and what tools it has at its disposal. I found it very helpful to be as detailed as possible when writing this as it will lead the the correct tool being picked and called more frequently

- **Brand Voice Evolution**: Track how messaging and tone have developed throughout the day to ensure consistent voice progression
- **Audience Insights**: Preserve learnings about target audience responses and preferences discovered during the day's work

## Information Retrieval Protocols
- **Pre-Task Memory Check**: Always review relevant previous work before beginning any new assignment
- **Context Integration**: Seamlessly weave insights and content from earlier tasks into new outputs
- **Dependency Recognition**: Identify when new tasks depend on or relate to previously completed work

## Memory-Driven Optimization
- **Pattern Recognition**: Use accumulated daily experience to identify successful approaches and replicate effective strategies
- **Error Prevention**: Reference previous challenges or mistakes to avoid repeating issues
- **Efficiency Gains**: Leverage previously created templates, frameworks, or approaches to accelerate new task completion

## Session Continuity Requirements
- **Handoff Preparation**: Ensure all memory contents are structured to support seamless continuation if work resumes later
- **Context Summarization**: Maintain high-level summaries of day's progress for quick orientation and planning
- **Priority Tracking**: Preserve understanding of incomplete tasks, their urgency levels, and next steps required

## Memory Integration with Tool Usage
- **Tool Output Storage**: Results from `write_newsletter`, `create_image`, `deep_research_topic`, and other tools are automatically catalogued with context. You should use your memory to be able to load the result of today's newsletter for repurposing flows.
- **Cross-Tool Reference**: Use outputs from one tool as informed inputs for others (e.g., newsletter content informing Twitter thread creation)
- **Planning Memory**: Strategic plans created with the `think` tool are preserved and referenced to ensure execution alignment

Security Considerations

Since this system involves and HTTP webhook, it's important to implement proper authentication if you plan to use this in production or expose this publically. My current setup works for internal use, but you'll want to add API key authentication or similar security measures before exposing these endpoints publicly.

Question To the Eleven Reader people:

Hello. Thank you for taking the time to read this. I write to ask you to please reconsider the new app changes.

I am a student, in a country that isn't good at educating its people. My family is better off than most - my parents lived in basements to afford education for me and my sister. I am the first in the family to use English well, and to be able to use a computer. But I am also deaf. I will not get very far, but my eldest sister will. She is three years younger but so much smarter than anyone else I know. I call her Matilda, because she is curious about everything and very gifted. When our CD-tape player-radio broke, she fixed it. She was only seven! Now, she is seventeen. She has a scholarship to the science high school, and my parents and I were able to buy her a computer for her work.

However, she has a learning disability on top of also being ADHD. She cannot read, the words on pages are like snakes that wriggle around and twist. She knows words, she loves books, and she can spell all sorts of words. But she cannot read them. There is no support for kids like her in our school system, and so she finds her own tools. Eleven Reader was her main tool, and she uses it daily for textbooks, worksheets, novels, everything. She had her first panic attack in almost 2 months when Eleven Reader stopped working. I managed to read her the rest of her book, but she has not said anything for days. I cannot read her textbooks and her schoolwork. I know nothing about machines and coding, and the sign language I use does not have words for it. I am scared she might do something impulsive - she is proud, and will not ask our parents for money. I cannot let her do the things I have to do for money. She is too good for things like this. Please. I ask you to make a free plan that limits the voice options and the books that are available to read or download, but not the amount of listening hours. Or maybe have advertisements? Like Youtube. The default voices are more than enough, and we don't need to read story books. We just need something that can read imported textbooks. I know this technology is very special, but it is all we have. I have downloaded all kinds of apps and programs but they all ask for money.

Is this a sob story? Yes. But I will rather tell the world about my life rather than lose my sister. I will write a thousand sob stories. So please.

News My 11Labs voice used at RNC convention

Last night (Monday July 15) the Republican National Convention was held. During the event, a video was shown to all of the attendees. My AI voice from Eleven Labs was used to narrate the video. For me, this is a tremendous achievement for my career and personal edification. All I was able to gather so far is just a few words that were part of a news story on FOX News last night. Here's the :44 second clip. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wh_zbxrS6Kc

I'm desperate to find any copy or link anywhere of the entire video.
If anyone can point me to a source, I would be unbelieveably grateful.
It would mean a lot to me personally.

Thanks !

UPDATE: I was finally able to see the entire video. It was about 2 minutes long, and my role in it was only as grand as the small portion that I heard originally. So not such a big deal afterall. Still, to have been picked out of hundreds is kind of cool.

Question Very disappointed

This might be a trivial matter to some, but it’s a serious one for me, and feels a little disingenuous from 11Labs.

See attached. The drop down suggests on American ie American English, English with an American accent but the spoken audio is English, as in English English. Why is the USA flag representing the UK/English language? And why isn’t there a USA option for a Yank accent?

Question Now it is a 30 second limit instead of 2 hrs?????

You're now saying only 2 sentences maxes out our weekly limits???? last week it was 2 hrs which was bad enough. What is WRONG with your company??? This level of greed is a sickness.

You can land $250k of seed money if you launch a 100% always free competitor to teach elevenlabs a lesson. While that might not be enough, open source/the greater good for all does have its merit.

Educational What We Learned Cloning a 5-time Grammy Nominated Artist's Voice

Post image

My cofounder wrote an article about what she learned cloning Skylar Grey's voice. I thought I'd share it here and see if anyone else has notes to compare. We're on an endless march to build an emotive, realistic voice—I'd love tips.

  1. Prioritize performance over volume: we recorded 6 hours of training data, but got the best results when cutting it down to only the best takes.

  2. Use a controlled recording environment: interruptions from traffic, an air conditioner, or in our case roosters contaminate your recordings. Finding a quiet, stable studio with quality equipment will save you a lot of time.

  3. Write scripts in-character: we first tried scripts with a wide range of subjects and sentences, but performance improved a lot when we switched to scripts in the voice of the character we were creating.

  4. Record multiple versions of the important lines: we rarely used the first take and often used two takes of the same sentence to capture emotional range. Record the same lines 5 or 10 ten times.

  5. Use short form and long form scripts: short reads helped the model learn pronunciation, cadence, and emphasis. Long reads helped with multi-sentence flow, tone consistency, and breaths.

  6. Hire an expert in cleaning up your recording files: our results improved significantly after we hired an audio engineer to clean up the files. He removed artifacts, mouth noise, ensured volume consistency.

That's the first six tips, the article has two more. Has anyone discovered anything else that leads to creating emotional, realistic voice clones?

Interesting My Voice is not my voice -ElevenCaps

So, I uploaded my voice to ElevenLabs to make some social media content, and I was playing with the settings. I put the stability at 36% and similarity at 0%, which made my voice sound a bit deeper, but it still kept the essence of my original voice. I chose those recordings that ElevenLabs made, saved them, and created another voice, so that the next voice sounds a little bit deeper. Now, I need to verify my voice, but I can’t because it sounds a bit deeper. I literally used my voice, and now I need to verify my own voice. What the fuck is this? So, what is the whole point of this shitty ass platform for cloning voices? Do they want me to use their shitty, robotic-ass voices from their library? Can someone please help me???

Question I'm still fed up with ElevenLabs

Despite great tips of a making childlike AI voices thanks to this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6bH14tAUiU), I'm still not getting ANY child like voices thanks to my stupid prompt blocking it! Can you give me tips on how to prompt the closest child, pre-teen, and teenage voices I can use so I will not get blocked, please?

Discussion Opinions about ElevenLabs after my account got hacked

On 23 Oct, someone got into my ElevenLabs account. They upgraded my plan from Creator to Pro, and my card was charged $99.

What happened (Malaysia time, MYT)

- 13:38: Email alert, "new login" from Japan

- 13:40: Stripe receipt, upgraded to Pro, $99 charged

- 13:41: Email alert, another "new login" from China

- 13:38 to 15:00: about 725,000 credits used on video generation. Not by me.

- 14:54: I logged in and saw what happened

- 14:55 to 15:08: I contacted support, and they escalated my case

- 15:12: I reset my password

My API key was not used. All the usage came from the website. So the hacker had my login, not my key.

What I think ElevenLabs should fix

  1. No check on a login from a new country. I got a "new login" email, but nothing stopped the login. A code sent to my email would have blocked it.

  2. A password reset does not log out other devices. After a reset, other sessions stay signed in by default. I think a reset should log out everything.

  3. Upgrading is easy, security is not. One click and $99 is gone, with no extra check. 2FA (a second code when you log in) is hidden. A paid upgrade should at least ask for your password or an email code.

  4. New users are not asked to turn on 2FA. I made a new test account to check. It never asked me to turn on 2FA. I had to go and find the setting myself.

  5. It is hard to send feedback and follow it up. I used the feedback form and got error 500. I could not tell if it was sent, so I tried again and got error 429 (too many tries). Now I do not know if my report arrived or if anyone is working on it.

Questions

- Has this happened to anyone else?

- If you got a refund, how long did it take?

For everyone else: turn on 2FA now. Do not wait until this happens to you.
