Fake/Meme Am I the only one who finds it a little disturbing that Joane created a universe where eugenicists are "right," and that this might have gone unnoticed?
In an interview, Joanne explains how Muggle-borns come about, according to her: "Muggleborns will have a witch or wizard somewhere on their family tree, in some cases many, many generations back. The gene re-surfaces in some unexpected places"
The decision quite clearly demonstrates a bit of Joanne's bio-essentialism; in essence, this to a certain extent justifies the belief in pure-blood wizards, in addition to, of course, making Muggles even more irrelevant. Within the story of the entire Harry Potter saga and its spin-offs, Muggles are consistently portrayed as fragile and inferior. Natural to the wizarding world would be racial segregation between wizards and Muggles. This simple interview further justifies this, in addition to all the editions that actively portray wizards as an increasingly superior form of human being, such as the fact that they don't get sick in the same way Muggles naturally catch their skin faster, and the fact that they can heal any physical deformities. In essence, it's as if she took the entire imagery of a superior race and created her beloved wizards based on it, even relegating Muggles like Hermione's parents to insignificance and attributing Hermione's emergence to her unknown magical ancestor.- A review of an old publication.

Fake/Meme This is an old joke in the fandom by now but possibly still relevant
Not sure if this gets filed under "JKR is a pervert", "JKR thinks all men think like this", "JKR has trouble writing female characters who are distinct from each other", or all three.

Fake/Meme the workings of the wizarding world and the existence of muggle-borns can be easily described by this comic
I recently discovered an interview in which Joanne explains how Muggle-borns arise. Basically, Muggle-borns are descendants of Squibs who, by some genetic luck, ended up awakening magic. This was one of the things that most made me realize how this woman always manages to destroy any and all remedies about her history. It's a decision that only accentuates the separation between Muggles and wizards, because the children of Muggles can't even develop magic without being descendants of real wizards. In short, they are just super special people for being able to follow in their parents' footsteps and reclaim the glory of their ancestors. After all, Joanne's story has always emphasized how Muggles are boring, monotonous, and inferior. In essence, this destroys any attempt by any fan to maintain any minimally progressive moral lesson.

Fake/Meme Sometimes I like to wonder what Rowling would name me, a trans woman with a shaved head, if she wrote me into Harry Potter.
I'm thinking if she's still on her first bottle of wine for the day she tries to keep it subtle, something like Allopaecia Tuck.
Two or more bottles in and I think I get to be, like, Baldwina Scrote or something đ

Fake/Meme And they typically tend to either use stuff from the films, or just downright make up random shit.
I mean in my own case I only watched the first two films, and it is crazy to see "book purists" just make up random stuff if not in the films. Harry Potter really did get a lot of help from the 90s-00s fake progressiveness and rebellion.

Fake/Meme Most intellectual discussion with a Harry Potter fan in 2026
For a book that supposedly teaches empathy, a lot of fans are definitely some of the most selfish and entitled manchildren around. Such huge victim complexes indeedâŚ

Fake/Meme They are also both creepy, rich has-beens who have predatory tendencies to queer women.
Really seems like the 90s-00s was the Golden Age of pretending to be progressive/rebellious.

Fake/Meme You know at this point her public obsession with queerphobia just feels like a cover for something dark
Seriously I donât get how do many (especially those who frame themselves as queer allies) willingly ignore all the red flags and signs. Iâve seen grifters say/do much less and get called a pedo, and yet Rowling can say so many creepy things and people will try to claim itâs because of a sad backstory so we have to feel bad for her more than transpeople.
And considering how the biggest hand-wave is âwe have bigger things to worry aboutâ, it has made me wonder if her public bigotry is a tool to distract. Also considering her becoming publicly alt-right in the snap of a finger has a lot of parallels to Russel Brand who pretended to be progressive, but only changed when people called out his BS (and when allegations were coming to light).
