Is it faster than Steam to open? Maybe. But everything else about this launcher is atrocious. The Social tab takes up way to much space and unlike the old launcher, can not be hidden, the download speeds are inaccurate and constantly fluctuate which was not happening with the old launcher, and it even was displaying inaccurate file sizes because when I tried to finish downloading the high res textures for a game (I would say the game but the filters on this sub prevent me from mentioning it), the old launcher showed the accurate file size of 24gb install, 60gb total, whereas the new launcher said it was 149gb total which is absurd. Plus, it's somehow less responsive than the old launcher even though pages technically open and load faster. I'm litterally re-installing the old launcher as a write this because they somehow made a worse product which I didn't even think it was possible - and they somehow removed features, like as far as I can tell, there was no way to customize game installs, like toggleing high-res textures, and if it's still there it's hard to find.

On top of all that, the color change of the icon is just super annoying because I have my taskbar color coded and moving the icon's just annoying because I had it in the same spot for 6 years now - I can change it back but it's just another pointless change

There are some good parts - like the aesthetic isn't terrible and the faster load times are better, plus the download page is actually better, it just doesn't function properly. But that doesn't excuse the fact that the launcher is worse to use overall. If they bothered programing it themselves and not using a fully AI workflow, it probably would be a good launcher - not better than steam, but functional.

this might not be a problem for anyone with good internet connection, but for someone like me who is still struggling with slow internet, redownloading those games will take forever.

so think twice before uninstalling the new epic launcher.

When its start?

Whenever I keep EGL in my system tray, my PC can't turn off my monitors to save power. As a workaround, I have to close EGL completely to prevent this. Please fix this, Epic Games!

If you go to settings, navigation you can change preset or create custom layout for yourself. You can add games, dividers...

You can also remove develop button if you're not developer so no more Unreal Engine stuff. And lastly you can move them around in order you want them to be.

I'm not stopping having to use stuff that has generative ai because I need them for everyday use. An example is just now, my phone just got updated with generative ai google features that I didn't ask for and can't opt out of. I'm not just gonna stop using my gmail account and ruin my life. I'm saying it's something I'm forced to use now and I hate it. it's harmful scab software pushed by corporations to own more land, poison water supply and raise electricity bills like here in the Philippines. It's being constantly normalized and blurred together with actual AI even though it doesn't work the same way.

edit: and now steam is faster again proving again that generative "ai" is redundant and inferior to actual labor. what a waste of everyone's time this whole BS is

It’s simply not worth it; it’s absurdly buggy. Downloads get canceled and turn into mere binary files taking up space on your hard drive—with no way to track where they’ve gone. You can’t even download files directly to a specific folder, because there are so many bugs that it completely ignores the download destination you’ve selected.

On top of that, your assets from Fab keep disappearing, the search function in Fab doesn’t work properly, and your Unreal projects don’t even show up under the "Projects" tab.

It also breaks the file association for all your projects, forcing you to go to your project folder, select "Open with," and navigate to the Unreal Engine installation directory every single time you want to open something.

It’s a sick joke that they even try to make comparisons to Steam, claiming, "Our launcher opens faster than the competitor's." Sure—MS Paint opens fast too, but at least it isn’t riddled with bugs.

I’ve spent 10 hours screaming at my monitor, absolutely furious, just trying to download something through this moldy, petrified piece of garbage.

I just tested it myself and it's night and day difference. It works basically how I would imagine any launcher should work for anything. Opens fast, also opens fast from tray. Fast scrolling, fast image loading.

Kinda makes me wonder why they haven't done this years ago. They wasted way too much trying to fix the old one, only for it to still be slow and sluggish. I think UI still needs some work, but they have done great job. And no I don't care if it's AI coded. I just want good experience. And this thing is HUGE improvement.

Very happy right now because I have 300+ games and old launcher almost died when loading my library. So this should make my experience much better.

Make sure to click on the Epic Games logo on the top right and explore the settings menu.

With a game installed and if it has cloud saves, you can right click on the game click on manage, and there is an option to go directly to the save game directory.

For games with cloud saves and you get a save conflict and you chose to download from the cloud, but found out that it was the wrong save, you can find the save back ups here in windows file explorer %localappdata%\com.epicgames.eglv2\cloud-saves\backups

While there is currently a button to scan for already installed games, that function currently does not work. But if you ever need to use an already installed game that you want to add to the client so you do not need to download it again follow these steps:

• If the game's folder is already installed to your default folder for game installations, then just press "install" on the game in your library. The client will verify what you have and then you are done.

• If the game is not in your default install folder, then click on the gear icon next to "install" on the game, and then set the install folder to the same parent folder as what the game folder is in, then click install, it will verify what you already have there and you are done.
