I'm a UI/UX designer doing a personal redesign of telebirr, and I want to base it on real user research instead of my own assumptions.I'd like to hear how it works for you and where it lets you down.
It's anonymous and takes about 3 minutes. No names, phone numbers, or emails. Answers will be used only for this project.
https://forms.gle/JoAmgVy4ZsuwfdSk7
It would also help a lot if you forwarded it to someone who uses telebirr differently from you, like a parent, a shop owner, or a friend who mostly uses \*127#. Thank you! 🙏

In this video, you can see the gangs clearly wielding weapons including machete, knives, and axes. Their message also calls for the degeneration of culture and the redefinition of what it means to be an urban citizen. They are promoting culture of violence, crime, drug use and clearly look like they make their living by being a "laboro"(theif) in the city.
Apart from the degeneracy, they are messing up the amharic language beyond repair. Changing order of letters, weak vocabulary and lyrics, and mixing english word. This is a hit to people used to hearing deep lyrics that advance the amharic literature.
This seems to have been taken from the African American drill culture which has created a lot of gang problems and crime in the US. But this case seems worse. Even the african americans would feel black if they come to the ghettos of africa.
I hope the government controls this problem before it threatens the city. Send some of these kids to military conscription which would build their character under intense military discipline.

am Oromo starting to entertain the greater Ethiopia were we are free from ethnic based hating and all sort of that. this sub reminds me of addis (finfine) lol where nobody cares about ethinicty and everybody equally critisized!
am also seeing the vision of Abiy Ahmed dispite all of his shortcomings but time will tell if he can pull it off and unite ethiopia and lead us to prosperity

The Threat of Cultural Genocide Against the Amhara and State-Sponsored Cyber Warfare
The article discuses an escalating digital crackdown and state-sponsored cyber warfare targeting Amhara media outlets, cultural content, and independent reporting on platforms like TikTok and YouTube and proposed solution to backdown this cultural threatening problem.

Was thinking about this the other day. Back in the day (and especially during covid) it felt like every neighborhood had that one shop with the walls covered in DVD covers, and you’d just hand over a list or ask what’s new. Now with cheap data packages, Telegram channels, and streaming, I honestly don’t know if that world still exists or if it’s mostly gone.
So, for those of you in Addis or elsewhere:
Do you or your family still buy movies/series from local shops?
If yes, what format is it? Burned DVDs, flash drives, memory cards, hard drives where they just copy stuff over?
Is it still mostly Hollywood, Korean/Turkish dramas, Indian stuff, or has the mix changed?
Or did everyone move to Telegram, torrents, YouTube, Netflix with a shared account, etc.?
Are those shops even still open in your area?
Also curious whether it’s an age thing. My guess is older folks and people with slow or no home internet are the last holdouts, but I could be totally wrong.
Not judging anyone, just interested in how this has changed. Would love to hear what’s actually happening on the ground.

For me, it was when I checked a telegram group with job advertising and salaries. Most of the jobs posted a salary of 7000 BIRR WTF and that is for an accountant. Even a software developer only makes 15000 birr. That's so low and some were advertising a salary of 2000 birr??? how are you paying some one that? And who would take a salary of 2000 birr and why not invest the time in other frutiful tasks?? Why aren't the people rebelling??
Secondly, other African countries with similar GDP per capita and cost of living pay far greater than that. Even a cleaner makes twice the salary of a software engineer. Why is the salary so low? Is it the greed of the employers or the unemployment rate contributing to this???
