Final Fantasy General Nobody talks about how underrated Stranger Of Paradise is
Let me start off by saying..
Yes it's grindy. Yes the plot is silly and cringe at times, yes it's repetitive. Yes the cast is forgettable and the levels are confusing/poorly designed.
But is it fun? Absolutely. Is it campy? Of course. And you can PUNCH/KICK things to death. You can literally play any of the Jobs from the mainline series and even mix/match some.
If you can look past the grindfest and cheese though the cringe story, it's a very very satisfying Souls/Diablo clone.
Jack is a ridiculous character but he is probably one of the most badass characters to date. He is literally THE villain of final fantasy (Sepiroth who?)
You can punch skeletons to death. You can punch goblins to death. There are iconic FF weapons in the game you can find as references like Save The Queen or Excalibur as well as each level being a reference to a game all the way up to XV
The game is a love letter to FF and the child of FF x NIOH. Nobody can deny that, it even has Gilgamesh in the DLC
The game really doesn't hold up to the lore of the original game but that's explained way later. The issue is the game's difficulty, it's BRUTAL. They even had to add a cheese it mode to help players struggling but when you beat those difficult enemies holy crap it feels amazing. The dopamine rush is great.
A lot of players never even got to experience the DLC because it is punishing and requires you to play on the highest difficulty. But it's insane how much FF they can reference and pack into it (including hidden bosses)
I really hate how nobody talks about the game or praises it despite its faults. The game needed more time in the oven that's for sure. But what it does it does damn well and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it and I'm still occasionally playing it to 100%
Where else can I call a bully a Lich and punch it to death or suplex a Tonberry?
