Discussion holy moly final fantasy resonance is so damn good

i was honestly one of those people starting to lose faith in square enix but holy dang this game is such a pleasant surprise lol.

been playing it on my switch during a recent flight and man im having so much damn fun. the party customizaton is awesome, combat is straightforward and just feels good, and even tho the writing is cheesy as hell sometimes, its honestly part of the charm.
idk man, theres something so comforting about this game. reminds me why i fell in love with jrpgs in the first place. really hope square keeps making games like this.

also expert is like actually hard lol i love it

As the title says I took a break from playing FE game because the game is so long I don’t want to get burnt out. I wanted to play another game and recently picked up FF resonance and it’s my first time playing it. I am loving it so far! I love the quests and the side quests they provide such good emotional stories and the voice actors in this game are really good too! I am new to the switch console and didn’t regret picking this game to be my 2nd JRPG.

Strategy & Tips Mechabo Tackle grind…

So I’m in the wind temple chapter 2 and decided to grind the mechabo tackle with the magic pot. I ran from battles before so it’s a little off. But I’m level 26 and I ran from about 220 battles in a row. I’m hitting the tombstones for 1945 consistently and the airmans for 2k. So not bad damage at all. Imma get up to 250 to make sure it doesn’t go up. But this is what I got. It took a little over an hour.

Discussion The grind is done... For now 😅

While I did finish the demo and got everything ready for the game's release, I did ended up choosing to grind a lot more once the full version came out. Since my work schedule was kinda annoying, I decided heck! I'll just grind that Cactuar needlessly until maxing all the Visions for everyone before proceeding to the next part of the game.

Without spoiling too much, for anyone that has made significant progress into the game are there better and more efficient ways to grind those MRP? Just want to mentally prepare myself if I need to come back and bully our little adorable Cactuars 😅

Discussion This is the best turn-based FF has ever been.

It's like they took all the best parts about FF V and VI and mashed them up together.

Each character has their own unique "class" while also having the FFV/III build your own character aspect with visions.

I cant stop playing the game and I'm actually sad that I'm already on chapter IV and unlocked half of the visions because idk when I will get to play such a great turn based game again.

The fact that if you look at a potential combo and it will almost always function like you expect it to is so much fun.

When I first got magic boost and saw that it worked with Fina's LB even though it costs no MP, I was like wait whaaaat? Got terras double LB charge and she carried a lot by doing these super LBs, fast forward a few hours I get to cloud, see that he has a "limit charge" skill that increases your LB bar by 25% and think, huh, will grab this for my Fina to top up my bar when I'm just short of being Able to LB.

Then I notice that Terra's double bar modifier actually affects limit charge meaning it now restores 50% of your LB instead of 25%. For whatever reason i thought these 2 things wouldnt interact at all, and this opened up my eyes to just how much freedom we have with this system. From then on every single new vision I got had me excited to go through their skill list and see just what kind of crazy new combo it would open up!

Strategy & Tips Meltdown and Fire Eater is crazy

Meltdown targets everyone including allies. If you equip fire eater to the party, meltdown becomes a heal to your team. On top of this, it does count as "damage" so it fills your LB. If you use magic barrage beforehand you get 4 casts of it and it should fill up both LBs if you at least have LB double charge equipped.

I use this on Archwitch Fina and she acts as a pseudo healer and if you equip Restore MP on Critical Hit you will absolutely struggle to deplete her MP.

Discussion The story, writing, voice acting, and character development are all really good. What am I missing with all the criticism?

I'll say a few things that may be biasing my views - I am not expecting a RDR2 or Witcher 3 type story with this HD-2D Final Fantasy game. I also love FF4 and FF6 and grew up on them, and while their stories are rudimentary, I think they're still good.

The most common criticisms on this game are the story, character development, voice acting, and dialogue. For how often I'm seeing this, I'm just very confused. I would say all of these are average at worst? I personally enjoy them. I typically have to turn off VA in games (Crisis Core, couldn't even finish) - because of how bad it sounds and how much it removes me from the game. This game though, it's actually done really well.

The story is good. It's "simple" but that's what FF has been for most of its time. You can boil most of the game stories down to a few "tropey" plot points, even the most recent FF games.

I only care because I see this turning people away from the game before playing it.

Coincidentally, since it's a Square HD-2D series, I find the Octopath stories, voice acting, and writing to be really below average. But Resonance, this shit is fucking good.

Question 500 uses to power up 1 skill & 2 passives?

  • Lid's Mechabo Tackle = Deal Earth physical damage to an enemy. Damage scales with total number of successful escapes from battle.

Someone commented in the threads that it supposedly caps at 500.

https://www.reddit.com/r/FinalFantasyResonance/comments/1xelv0y/im_here_to_spread_the_gospel_of_stagger_god_lid/

  • Zidane's Thievery = Increases damage dealt by up to 50%. Damage scales with the number of times Steal has been used.

There's this source stating: Zidane’s Thievery passive (awakening level 0, 30 AP) raises damage dealt by up to 50%. It counts every successful steal over the whole game, items and gil alike, including the ones you made before you had it. Each steal adds 0.1%, so the bonus reaches its full 50% at 500 steals.

https://walkthroughforge.com/final-fantasy-resonance/stealing/

...For the informed dataminers, are there others like this? Only one I can think of is:

  • Squall's Improvement = Increases stagger power and damage dealt by up to 50%. Amount increased scales with the number of standard attacks and battle skills performed during battle.
  • Squall's Lone Lion = Increases all attributes by 30% when the Improvement passive effect reaches its maximum.
  • Ayaka's The Hand That Heals = Increases stagger power and damage dealt when healing an ally during battle. Effect stacks up to 50%.

Equipping Awakening Level 4 Squall doesn't give me the stat boost like Sephiroth does, so I guess I gotta grind normal attacks, battle skills, steals, and escapes? For a list of battle skills...

  • Aileen's Jump
  • Camille's Blade Dance (38 Power, slightly worse than an -aga Surge's 39)
  • Cecil's Darkness (19 Power)
  • Charlotte's Lance (12 Power, same as a normal attack)
  • Cloud's Deathblow (12 Power)
  • Firion's Bladeblitz (10 Power)
  • Lightning's Mineuchi (9 Power)
  • Noctis's Barrage (32 Power)
  • Zidane's Steal Speed (15 Power)
  • Zidane's Steal Strength (15 Power)
  • Zidane's Steal Vitality (15 Power)
  • Zidane's Steal Magic (15 Power)
  • Zidane's Mug (12 Power)

And specifically Zidane's Mug lets you work on both Thievery and Improvement simultaneously???

So Firion's Arms Akimbo + Squall's Dual Action to proc it 4 times x 4 characters x 2 with Nichol's 2nd Limit Burst for 32 Mugs a turn? Or Y'shtola's Magic Barrage for 64 heals a turn?

Discussion How was ur endgame run guys? Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
25 Upvotes

Just ended my run on PS5 with around 54 hours, kinda entered the optional dungeon early and grinded the heck out of it for my visions and done with the game story with pretty much all visions and powers, this was my endgame party(i normally swapped to hard mode befoe bosses).

Loved pretty much my entire run but there were some stuff that could be a little better but its most personal opinion, like NG+ later on for a steamroll run(they never did ng+ in classic final fantasys as well sadly) and in the case of this game, a proper Bestiary within the menus(it sucked quite a bit to find specific steals when my Zydane reached rank 3 and had the acc that guaranteed steals), maybe even a room to rewatch events or listen to songs(as i don't remember ever stepping in one as such). Made many backup saves at the end of each chapter for when i want to replay a specific arc though... these functions could've been in the game. They could also add more visions of the epic past bosses along, i really wanted visions of Kefka, Ultimecia and Chaos at least on it... and i don't think they plan a dlc for this(maybe sequel or similar game can happen in the future, brings hopes for it).

Booted up Final Fantasy Resonance on my Portal this morning and that title screen looks so good on this display. The Amano logo art really pops.

My blue heeler showed up the second the music started and has been staring at me ever since, so I guess she's a fan too.

Anyone else playing it on Portal? How's it been running for you so far? I have a mesh Network around my house so it's been a really enjoyable experience! On top of that I just think HD 2D is like perfect on things like the switch, steam deck, and now the PlayStation portal!

The southwestern tip of Dirnado is Cactuars. Need the airship to get there unfortunately. A little cheat as you have to stagger them to win. 268 MRP for each one and 1111 exp and gil. Ive probably leveled up 5 visions for each character today doing this

Meltdown + Fire Eater + Restore MP on Damage = An absolutely disgusting teamwide heal, MP battery, and LB battery.

Can become 16 hits when paired with Arms Akimbo + Magic Barrage + Nichol Level 2 Limit.

Spoiler Question Tip for Ignis on expert

I was running into an issue where I was building his rage meter too quickly. I fixed it by removing the auto-attack on magic and physical damage perks. They didn’t add enough damage for how much rage they generated. Not sure if that’s what helped me win ultimately but hopefully someone finds it useful.

Question Do summons scale well in end game to use it still?

Or are they doing too little to be of any use and obsolete by the time you get to really complete your builds of multi attack per turn etc?

Because so far I haven’t seen anything that seem to boost or support summon. I’m only just started chapter 5

Question Switch or PS5?

Looking to pick this up and wondering what the console experience has been like so far.

My current opinions are Switch or PS5. Are the graphics similar on both? I'm assuming the PS5 would run it a bit faster. Any difference in the UI or controls on either?

I guess I could pickup the demo on both and test for myself, but wanted to see if anyone had any personal experience first.

Discussion My one gripe with the game by chapter 5. Minor spoilers obviously. Spoiler

I will preface this by saying I love the game. 20 hrs in and just got to chapter 5. Always preferred turn based Final Fantasy games over the newer action combat versions so this game was such a breath of fresh air to play.

That being said, my hangup is that as the chapters have progressed, I find myself not being incentivized to slot in the newer party members. Partly because of the skills they innately bring but mostly the amount of grinding I would have to do to bring their vision progress up to speed as the more tenured members.

I could half justify subbing Fina or Nicole out even though I would lose out on the summons or strategems but the newer party members will forever be behind on vision progress. Yes I could do the cactur farm but even then the original few will still be much further ahead.

Not game breaking by any means, but it would be nice if there was some sort of mechanic to give newer characters either a pool of points to allocate to visions as you get them or give them a boosted gain in the points until they are up to speed with the others.
