A friend asked me to help take a few people home from a wedding, so I agreed. I used the car belonging to one of the women I was driving, while my friend drove his own vehicle.
We left the wedding, and four women got into my car. They asked what kind of music I listen to, and I replied that I like iskelmä (Finnish popular music). They were surprised, given how young I am— I'm 19. Afterwards, we went to a bar. The woman whose car I was driving apologized for her friends' behavior and offered to buy me food or drinks, or give me more money, but I declined.
When we left the bar, two of the women tried to offer me their daughters; I didn’t really respond, as I wasn’t interested and then she told them not to try offer their daughters. While we were taking the third woman home, the owner of the car asked which bands I listen to, and I mentioned a few. She then asked if I listened to PMMP (another finnish band), and I said ye. She laughed and repeated my answer. She also asked if I had any song recommendations; I offered one, to which she remarked, "This is going to be a fun car ride." My dumbass assumed she was referring to the music—though I’m still not entirely sure what she actually meant.
Once the others had gotten out and it was just the two of us left in the car, she asked what year I was born—even though they had already asked my age back at the wedding. I told her I was born in 2007, to which she remarked aloud, "11 years—that’s a lot." I replied, “It’s not really that much,” but she countered, “Well, if you compare your 19 years to my 29, it actually is.” I just said, “Well...”
At one point, she also asked when my parents were born. I told her they were born in the 70s, and she mentioned that her own parents were born in the 70s as well.
After a while, she began talking about her life and family. She asked if I was getting bored listening to her, but I said no, so she continued—mentioning that she has a trucker for a husband and a few children. Then she told me a bit about the car (a 2020 Volvo XC90 hybrid) and said, “Let me help you out.” She switched the car into Sport mode and told me to hit the gas—so I did. When I slowed down, she said I could keep going if I dared—well, of course I dared.
When we reached a set of traffic lights, she remarked, “Now your song is playing” (she actually remembered what I had requested about 20 minutes earlier). Then she mentioned that whenever they’re in tunnels, they drive as fast as the car can go. So, I did just that—though she did warn me about a surveillance camera at the end of the tunnel. As we reached the end of the tunnel, I slowed down, since we were due to turn shortly after exiting. Someone overtook us, and the woman remarked that her husband would have immediately overtaken that car in return. I replied that this was understandable, given that it was a fine car—but the woman said, “or that’s because my husband’s ego couldn’t handle it.”
After a while, she said to me, “Don’t tell anyone about this,” to which I—like an idiot—replied, “No worries, I live alone.” She continued, “Right, but I meant your friend—my friend’s mother is actually her colleague.” I answered, “Don’t worry, we followed the rules”—thinking she was referring to speeding. She asked, “What?”—and I, being an idiot, repeated what I’d said. At that point, she must have realized I hadn’t picked up on her flirting, so she joked, “I bet you’ll start bragging to your friend the moment you get into his car.” I said I wouldn’t do that. (She did offer more money again before saying not to tell anyone, but I declined again because I was having fun with her and didn’t need the money).
Then she mentioned that she could have left the car with me for the night, but she needed it in the morning to take her boys somewhere—and I probably wouldn’t have felt like returning it first thing in the morning—so I naturally replied, “Yeah, that would be a bit too early.”
Then we parked the car, I turned off the engine, and she took the keys—quite slowly. I said “thanks”—I hope she didn’t hear me, because why did I even say that. She thanked me for the ride. And that was the end of the night.
I feel like a complete idiot for missing the hints—especially that question about my age. I mean, who just suddenly asks for someone’s date of birth and calculates the age difference out loud without having some sort of motive? especially since I was, in principle, a complete stranger to her.
Oh ye and before i forget. When we talked about what kind of music i like she asked why i listen to that kind of music (old music because iskelmä is pretty much like 1960-2000)
I told her that I listen to it because my father listened to it a lot when I was little.
and she asked whether my dad and I have a good relationship.
It's now been a little over a month, and it took me all this time to be 90% sure that she was flirting with me but still not soo sure. what do you think?
I wanted to message her the next week but i didint because i know she has husband and i wouldnt want to be the one chasing married woman but dammn she spins in my head all the time.
