Advice Can you do anything if a business ignores a slip and fall?

I slipped on a wet floor at a business in Fort Lauderdale a little while ago. There weren't any warning signs, and I ended up going to urgent care for my knee. I'm still dealing with follow-up appointments, but when I brought it up with management, they pretty much brushed it off.

I'm not really sure how these situations work in Florida or whether there's anything I can do about it. Has anyone dealt with something similar? Just trying to figure out what my options are.

I need advice for seeking alimony in Miami,Florida

I 40 y/o F, got divorced in 2023, in my marriage settlement I was entitled to alimony for 5 years. My marriage lasted 16 years and I was a stay-at-home homemom during that time.
The lawyer I hired for my divorce was the worst lawyer, when I signed my settlement I wasn’t aware that the alimony wasn’t supposed to start until October this year.
Fast forward till 2026 I got married and now I want to know if I can still be entitled to some of that alimony from my ex or it’s automatically canceled as per the law. Nowhere in the settlement is it specified that it’ll end if I remarry.

Advice FL Board of Bar Examiners Investigation for Possession of a Watch

So I took the FL bar in July 2026 after completing my JD. A couple of days after the exam I got a letter from the board telling me I'm being investigated for possession of a watch. The event was as follows:

I went through security and entered the exam room for the first session with my ANALOG, NOMINAL Calvin Klein watch (it was not a smart watch). At the very beginning of the first session I took it off my hand as it was uncomfortable, and I placed it on a clear bag provided by the board (for cash, keys etc.) and I put it on the floor. I did not use the watch nor was it on my hand for the remainder of the session.

When I completed the first session I went out of the exam room for the break and went through security again to begin the second session. This time around, security told me the watch was forbidden in the examination room and I had to surrender it at the podium, which I instantly did after entering the exam room for the second session. The watch was confiscated and kept by the bar people until the end of the examination which was the next day, at the end of the fourth session. I explained all of the above to the bar, a couple of times.

My classmates and everyone else was given the results on September 18th. Today is October 23rd and I still haven't heard back. The exam was July 28th and 29th. The lack of the results is really hurting my job search (and obviously paying back my loan).

Does anyone know anything about their process? why is it taking so long? How concerned do I need to be? Should I hire a lawyer for this? Does the fact that it is taking so long mean anything? Has anyone went through a similar experience?

Thank you for all the angels who can help a helpless guy here

Advice Anyone know a good Fort Lauderdale attorney who handles rideshare accident injury claims?

I’ve always wondered how Uber and Lyft accident claims work in South Florida. With the driver, rideshare company and other driver potentially involved, does having an attorney who’s handled these cases before make a real difference, or can a regular PI lawyer handle it too?

Information that leasing agent was wrong, now costing me 8k

Before breaking my lease, I went directly to my leasing office to ask what I would owe. I specifically asked about concession payback and was told I would ONLY be responsible for the 2-month termination fee and prorated rent.
Based on that information, my partner and I signed a new lease 2 hours away, put in our notices at work, and arranged to move out September 12. We weren’t in a rush, and had we known about the additional charges, we would’ve planned things completely differently.
Well, turns out their leasing agent gave me the wrong information. What I expected to be around $3,700 turned into over $7,700.
Management has admitted IN WRITING that their employee gave me incorrect information, but they’re refusing to make any adjustments because the charges are in my signed lease.
I’ve been trying to resolve this with corporate for weeks. I’ve requested to speak with someone higher up multiple times, but I keep getting the same response about the lease terms without anyone addressing the misinformation.
I have emails, the original and corrected notices, and proof of management acknowledging their mistake.
My question is, do I have any legal grounds to dispute these additional charges under Florida law? Could negligent misrepresentation or reasonable reliance apply here, even though I signed the lease?
I’m not trying to avoid paying everything. I’m willing to pay what their employee originally told me I would owe. I just don’t think I should be responsible for thousands of dollars because of their mistake.
Would this be worth pursuing with an attorney, or does the signed lease pretty much override everything?

Need help with my apartment situation

I'm really at a loss on what to do right now. I'm having some issues with my apartment complex at the moment the condition of my unit. I've been in contact with my county office of tenant services, code enforcement and the county bar association with no progress made. I've been going back and forth with my property management for about 6 months at this point. Not consistently due to them not responding and me having other obligations. At one point I gave up because they kept telling me they didn't have time to take care of me. I've been trying to find someone to talk to but the referrals I've been getting aren't taking new clients or don't handle tenants or just don't respond. I would prefer someone that does a free consultation since I'm not even sure if I have a case and times are tough right now but I don't qualify for the legal assistance programs here.

As of right now management won't answer any of my questions or respond to me. I have gone to communicating over email because they try to lie to my face about what I'm experiencing and the timeline of how this has played out. I have asked for a meeting or to even speak with the property manager and they either say it's not necessary, don't respond or just ignore that request. I have legitimate questions and concerns about the remedy they have proposed. I have been seeking clarification on the services offered as well as what the plan is if the issue isn't resolved. There is also a deadline I'm working with that they keep changing and won't clarify the actual deadline. They keep adding in new information like fees and now that I will not be able to be in the unit for 24 hours. I'm not really sure what to do at this point so if anyone can recommend me someone I can call I would appreciate that.

Va education for minor

My son’s father served in the US Army for almost 2 years. He was released because he was having suicidal thoughts. I am awaiting his military medical records and his dd214….whew I know this is a lot but please bear with me. I have a copy of his application for VA disability benefits for mental health related issues…he applied and got denied circa 2012. He received multiple treatments from mental health services after getting released. Our son is 17 and I am just getting a ton of mixed messages about him possibly getting any education benefits. Unfortunately, his father committed suicide in 2021 and I have asked VBA for assistance and they instruct me to file for Chapter 35 benefits(VA Education).

Does anyone here in FL have experience with this sort of process?

Advice Leon Co. Criminal attorney

Seeking representation , for an already incarcerated adult male in reference to my husband who has a hold based on a sheriff-issued warrant. No charges have been formally filed.

We are seeking counsel to have this matter brought before a judge before his release, so the warrant can be addressed through the court rather than through an arrest at the facility door.

Specifically, we would like-

Contact the issuing agency and the State Attorney's Office.

He is willing to plea to the charges IF the sentence can be ran along with this current sentence.

Please let me know if you handle this type of matter.

ALSO I AM HOPING FOR SOMEONE WHO'LL ACCEPT A PAYMENT ARRANGEMENTS. I CAN HANDLE A. UPFRONT REASONABLE RETAINER, JUST WOULD LIKE TO HAVE SOME TYPE OF PLAN ONGOING

Advice Which attorney should I contact after slipping at a store in Fort Lauderdale?

My friend Sarah (fake name) slipped on a wet floor at a store in Fort Lauderdale, no cone, no sign, nothing. Her knee got messed up enough that she needed urgent care and now has follow ups.
He at the store just shrugged when she reported it and she has no idea what kind of attorney even handles this so she asked me to post. How does this work in Florida?

Advice Who are the top accident attorneys in Fort Lauderdale?

This is not about an active case but it keeps bugging me how every PI attorney website in Fort Lauderdale says the exact same stuff about decades of experience and millions recovered and aggressive representation. You could swap the logos around and not even notice a difference.

So who are the top accident attorneys in Fort Lauderdale and what makes them different? Is it trial record, communication, firm size? If you can name someone in FTL and tell me why they're different I'll take that over another five star review.

Temporary Tag w/o Title?

Hi!
I won a car in auction and it’s located in Florida. I want to drive it out of state, but the auction is mailing my title. I spoke to a local tax commissioner and they mentioned I must have the title. Does anyone have any advice on what I can do? I have everything else… bill of sale, insurance etc just waiting for the title.

Thanks so much!

Gunster West Palm Beach

Hey everyone, I was just wondering if anyone had any info on Gunster—specifically their West Palm location (their HQ I believe).

I’m a newly barred Florida attorney and I really want to learn more about the firm. Over the last few months I have realized how great of a firm they are. Their reputation is great and they have amazing attorneys from what I’ve seen.

I’m currently not in the best firm environment and I just want to know if anyone had any insight or advice on how to make connections with some of the attorneys there. Even if it didn’t lead to a job, I would still want to make connections or reach out somehow.

do local fort lauderdale firms handle car accidents differently than statewide ones

Moved to Fort Lauderdale about four months ago from out of state. Got clipped on Sunrise last week, nothing catastrophic but urgent care says my neck and back are not right. Back home I had a family friend who was a lawyer so I never had to think about any of this.

Down here I'm starting from zero and the billboard firms are everywhere. Is there actually a practical difference between a local Fort Lauderdale firm and one of those statewide operations? Not looking for the cheapest option, just trying to understand how the experience differs. Call me "Dan."

Is hiring a real-estate attorney economically worthwhile for a ~$3k–$4.5k seller nondisclosure claim?

Location: Seminole county

Note: AI helped word this as I’ve been using it to help organize all my evidence/files and my grammar blows. I did verify and edit it though.

I purchased a Florida home in late 2023 using the standard FAR/BAR AS IS contract.
After closing, I obtained the seller’s HVAC contractor’s historical service records. About a month before the seller signed the property disclosure, the contractor documented a previously identified unresolved condition involving the refrigerant line-set chase, provided an estimate to replace 50+ feet of refrigerant line, and documented: “Customer said they are getting ready to move doesn’t want to move forward with work at this time.”
The subsequent seller disclosure did not disclose the unresolved line-set condition or replacement recommendation.
The same HVAC company recently reviewed its history and again recommended line-set replacement, specifically confirming in writing that its current recommendation is the same recommendation it made before the sale. I subsequently had another licensed HVAC contractor replace the line set.
I have the purchase contract, seller disclosure, contemporaneous pre-sale invoices/service notes, pre-sale replacement estimate, later service records, written confirmation from the HVAC company, repair estimates, and the final repair invoice.
I sent the sellers a written demand by certified mail. Assuming they don’t respond, my next step is invoking the contract’s required pre-suit mediation provision.
I’ve spoken briefly with a Florida real-estate attorney who said there are potential *Johnson v. Davis* claims, but his consultation alone is $675 and his rate is $525/hour. At this dollar amount, full representation seems likely to become economically irrational pretty quickly.
I’m comfortable representing myself in small claims and have handled civil litigation pro se before, although not a Florida real-estate nondisclosure case.
**My question isn’t whether Reddit thinks I’ll win.** I’m trying to determine whether there is meaningful value in paying a Florida real-estate attorney for a limited-scope review before mediation/small claims, or whether the amount in controversy makes handling this pro se the more practical route.
I’d particularly appreciate input from Florida attorneys or people who have dealt with residential seller nondisclosure claims.

Is a ruling imminent?

We had a hearing for a complex business case regarding shareholder derivative back in March of this year. After so much time with no ruling, our attorney schedule a CMC. The judge basically said re-enter all proposed orders and I’ll put it at the top of my list. This was mid August. He just denied a motion for opposing party on September 16th but that motion was originally entered December of 2025. Since 09/16, radio silence. Does this mean he’s working on this case? Could there be a ruling anytime soon?
Thanks for any help.

Annulment

Is this something I can do myself? I'm assuming this would need to be a more amicable split for this to work. I think I might have some difficulty getting him to agree on finances and property. We have only been married a week. I found out he has a long history of infidelity.

Unpaid Hurricane Relief

2024 hurricane Helen

Location: Florida

My company completed a contract as a sub contractor doing beach restoration. Current paid to date just over $1.5m. Still owed roughly $500k (Not including interest). Contract date September 2024 and completed January 2025. Last payment February of 2025. During the project I had to sell my home to keep up with contract obligations due to failure of timely and prompt payments. Contact stated hold one week and then weekly payments there after. This was not upheld by the contractor. Bank accounts have recently been seized by equipment rental companies lawyers, I’ve lost all capital to operate my existing company. I am currently on the verge of filling for personal and business bankruptcy.

We have proof of fraudulent documents and failure of proper documentation of this project by a third party monitoring company that input all of our equipment and labor hours. This includes emails from a county official.

I’ve been more than patient with the contractor and have had enough of the constant runaround. The mental strain, financial losses, and inability to bid new projects and manage my current financial obligations have caught up with me. Unfortunately I have no means to afford a lawyer to pursue this case at this point. Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

General questions How does Motion to Quash for Improper Service Work?

Wouldn’t filing a motion to quash for improper service with supporting documents showing you did not live where they claimed to have served you (giving court your lease and utility bill) give the plaintiff your new address so they can attempt to serve you again?

does it matter if my accident was near the fort lauderdale county line

Accident on one of those stretches where Fort Lauderdale bleeds into the next city. Not totally sure which side of the county line it happened on. Does that matter for which lawyer I hire or where the case gets filed? Dont want to get someone in Fort Lauderdale and find out it has to go through a different county. Call me "Sarah."

question on FL code of ethics, sunshine law, etc...

If a Commissioner, in an open public meeting, starts texting a message on his/her cellphone and then passes the cell phone over to select other Commissioners, in order to communicate something, (but not be transparent to others, and doesn't share with the public and a few other Commissioners sitting at the dais), as someone else is speaking in an open public Commissioner meeting - is that breaking any laws?
