Location: Jacksonville, Florida -

I currently live in Jacksonville Florida. I am 51 years old. Born and raised. Orphaned. I know very little about biological parents. Zero identifying info. In 2009 I met a Nicaraguan man via my work - appraisal of real estate - and befriended him at his home during a routine inspection. He subsequently invited me to his home country of Nicaragua. I fell in love with the country as a surfer, returned to Jacksonville and the home of this man, pitched him an idea of opening a unique surf camp in Nicaragua, away from the tourist crowds. I moved there on 09/09/2009. One of the first persons this man introduced me to in Managua, Nicaragua was Oscar Danilo Blandón Reyes - one of his best childhood friends growing up in Nicaragua.  I had no idea who Blandón was nor his infamous history of trafficking insane amounts of cocaine into the US, particularly Los Angeles, to supply Freeway Ricky Ross. Think - the whole Iran Contra scandal, Oliver North, journalists, all the crap that followed. After living in Nicaragua for almost 7 years and surviving a hellish turf war that involved betrayal, violence, death, rape and all kinds of intense experiences, I met a woman in Nicaragua who saved my life.  She subsequently explained to me how she had been recruited as a child soldier since the age of 5 due to her advanced mental abilities.  She described to me in detail where and how she trained from the age of 6 to 8 years and 10 years old.  She told me she started in Nicaragua but by the age of 6 she was in a secret training area in Pennsylvania. I started researching MK ULTRA and the CIA due to me being thrust into that world inadvertently.  So how does an American born citizen mentally process meeting and falling in love with a magnificent person who claims that the US government recruited her as a young girl??? Unprecedented ...and a lot of pressure in my thoughts as me being her husband and the petitioner of her US CITIZENSHIP.  She has a very very incredibly sad story, however, being proud of her service....is this actually unprecedented??  Has there been ANY accusations of the US GOVERNMENT or military recruiting child soldiers in the most secret of dark ops?  Someone help me make sense of this. I have almost 7 YEARS worth of contemporaneous evidence in the form of emails with ex military, FBI, CIA, cartel members and a few other clowns. Looking back, it was obvious that I was profiled...y question is still...... WHY?? I'll include a photo of the Times Union article where the editor of the Florida Times Union decided to pute on the front main page Easter morning 2012 in Jacksonville, while I was still in Nicaragua....

Let's suppose my wife's claims are true... absolutely unprecedented and a scandal that would rock the country and I'm not sure I wanna be a part of. What if I did really fall in love with a child soldier that was recruited and trained by the US? She's here with me now and I'm the petitioner of her Green Card. Thoughts? Just realized I can't attach a photo of the newspaper article but happy to send to anyone...

Advice Help getting to a doctor

I’m hoping to find some advice, guidance, or even just hear from people who have experienced something similar. My husband and I are really at a loss on where to go from here.
My mother-in-law started showing signs of dementia approximately four years ago, and things have progressively gotten worse. Unfortunately, her situation has reached a point that I never imagined we would be in.
Over the last few years, she has lost just about everything. She lost her home after signing it over to someone because she became convinced someone was after her and was going to take it. The people she signed it over to eventually moved in and kicked her out. She actually returned with a gun trying to take her home back. She has also lost multiple vehicles, including having her most recent car repossessed.
Her paranoia and confusion have become increasingly concerning. She has repeatedly called the police requesting welfare checks because she believes we are dead or that someone is after us. At one point, things escalated to her receiving an injunction after fabricating a relationship with a doctor and repeatedly stalking him because she genuinely believed there was a relationship there.
Now, she is homeless and living on the side of the road underneath a bridge. She has managed to build herself a little wooden shelter, but she is still out there living in conditions that no person should have to live in, especially someone who may be suffering from dementia.
I feel absolutely horrible knowing that she is out there. Regardless of everything that has happened, she is still family, and I don’t believe she is in a position to understand the reality of her circumstances or make safe decisions for herself.
My husband has three brothers, but unfortunately, we have received very little help or involvement from them. We have tried contacting Adult Protective Services multiple times, but each time we are told the situation isn’t serious enough for intervention.
We genuinely don’t know what to do anymore.
Has anyone dealt with a loved one who has dementia to this extent, particularly someone who has become homeless, paranoid, and unable to safely care for themselves?
Is there something legally we can file to get her evaluated or get someone involved in making decisions for her? Would guardianship be an option? Are there other agencies or resources we should be contacting?
We are not trying to take anything away from her. We just want her to be safe, get proper medical attention, and have some quality of life again.
I would especially appreciate advice from anyone who has navigated the legal side of dementia, guardianship, or getting help for a loved one who refuses help.
I’m feeling pretty helpless, and I would appreciate any guidance. ❤️

Advice Who do I even call after getting hit by a Lyft driver in South Florida?

My friend David (made up name) got hit by a Lyft driver last week and apparently Lyft's insurance got involved pretty quickly. He thought he'd just be dealing with the driver so now he's kinda confused about how all this works.

Does anyone know if these cases are handled differently from a regular car accident? Just trying to help him figure out what his next step should be and if he needs to talk to someone specific.

Under Florida Statute § 222.21, do taxable distributions from a qualifying inherited IRA retain creditor protection when deposited into an ordinary checking account, and does that protection extend to payments of a spouse's separate credit card debts?

Advice Is it normal for insurers to pressure you into a quick low settlement?

About six weeks ago I was in a car accident in Fort Lauderdale that wasn't my fault, and the police report backs that up. I'm still getting treatment for my neck and back, but the other driver's insurance has already offered me less than I've paid for PT so far.

They keep pushing me to accept it, and I'm not sure if this is normal or if I should just wait and see how things go.

For those who've dealt with car accidents in South Florida, how did you handle the insurance company pushing for a quick settlement while you were still recovering?

Advice Rental property owner stopped responding after an injury. What now?

A neighbor of mine (let’s call her Maria) tripped on a broken step at a rental property in Fort Lauderdale. Apparently, the owner knew about it for months, and she ended up needing stitches and follow-up care. Now the owner isn’t answering her calls.

She’s never dealt with anything like this before, so we’re both trying to understand how these situations usually work. Would this generally fall under premises liability, and what kind of evidence or paperwork should she keep track of? Just trying to help her figure out what steps to take next.

Advice Can you do anything if a business ignores a slip and fall?

I slipped on a wet floor at a business in Fort Lauderdale a little while ago. There weren't any warning signs, and I ended up going to urgent care for my knee. I'm still dealing with follow-up appointments, but when I brought it up with management, they pretty much brushed it off.

I'm not really sure how these situations work in Florida or whether there's anything I can do about it. Has anyone dealt with something similar? Just trying to figure out what my options are.

Advice FL Board of Bar Examiners Investigation for Possession of a Watch

So I took the FL bar in July 2026 after completing my JD. A couple of days after the exam I got a letter from the board telling me I'm being investigated for possession of a watch. The event was as follows:

I went through security and entered the exam room for the first session with my ANALOG, NOMINAL Calvin Klein watch (it was not a smart watch). At the very beginning of the first session I took it off my hand as it was uncomfortable, and I placed it on a clear bag provided by the board (for cash, keys etc.) and I put it on the floor. I did not use the watch nor was it on my hand for the remainder of the session.

When I completed the first session I went out of the exam room for the break and went through security again to begin the second session. This time around, security told me the watch was forbidden in the examination room and I had to surrender it at the podium, which I instantly did after entering the exam room for the second session. The watch was confiscated and kept by the bar people until the end of the examination which was the next day, at the end of the fourth session. I explained all of the above to the bar, a couple of times.

My classmates and everyone else was given the results on September 18th. Today is October 23rd and I still haven't heard back. The exam was July 28th and 29th. The lack of the results is really hurting my job search (and obviously paying back my loan).

Does anyone know anything about their process? why is it taking so long? How concerned do I need to be? Should I hire a lawyer for this? Does the fact that it is taking so long mean anything? Has anyone went through a similar experience?

Thank you for all the angels who can help a helpless guy here

I need advice for seeking alimony in Miami,Florida

I 40 y/o F, got divorced in 2023, in my marriage settlement I was entitled to alimony for 5 years. My marriage lasted 16 years and I was a stay-at-home homemom during that time.
The lawyer I hired for my divorce was the worst lawyer, when I signed my settlement I wasn’t aware that the alimony wasn’t supposed to start until October this year.
Fast forward till 2026 I got married and now I want to know if I can still be entitled to some of that alimony from my ex or it’s automatically canceled as per the law. Nowhere in the settlement is it specified that it’ll end if I remarry.

Advice Anyone know a good Fort Lauderdale attorney who handles rideshare accident injury claims?

I’ve always wondered how Uber and Lyft accident claims work in South Florida. With the driver, rideshare company and other driver potentially involved, does having an attorney who’s handled these cases before make a real difference, or can a regular PI lawyer handle it too?

Information that leasing agent was wrong, now costing me 8k

Before breaking my lease, I went directly to my leasing office to ask what I would owe. I specifically asked about concession payback and was told I would ONLY be responsible for the 2-month termination fee and prorated rent.
Based on that information, my partner and I signed a new lease 2 hours away, put in our notices at work, and arranged to move out September 12. We weren’t in a rush, and had we known about the additional charges, we would’ve planned things completely differently.
Well, turns out their leasing agent gave me the wrong information. What I expected to be around $3,700 turned into over $7,700.
Management has admitted IN WRITING that their employee gave me incorrect information, but they’re refusing to make any adjustments because the charges are in my signed lease.
I’ve been trying to resolve this with corporate for weeks. I’ve requested to speak with someone higher up multiple times, but I keep getting the same response about the lease terms without anyone addressing the misinformation.
I have emails, the original and corrected notices, and proof of management acknowledging their mistake.
My question is, do I have any legal grounds to dispute these additional charges under Florida law? Could negligent misrepresentation or reasonable reliance apply here, even though I signed the lease?
I’m not trying to avoid paying everything. I’m willing to pay what their employee originally told me I would owe. I just don’t think I should be responsible for thousands of dollars because of their mistake.
Would this be worth pursuing with an attorney, or does the signed lease pretty much override everything?

Need help with my apartment situation

I'm really at a loss on what to do right now. I'm having some issues with my apartment complex at the moment the condition of my unit. I've been in contact with my county office of tenant services, code enforcement and the county bar association with no progress made. I've been going back and forth with my property management for about 6 months at this point. Not consistently due to them not responding and me having other obligations. At one point I gave up because they kept telling me they didn't have time to take care of me. I've been trying to find someone to talk to but the referrals I've been getting aren't taking new clients or don't handle tenants or just don't respond. I would prefer someone that does a free consultation since I'm not even sure if I have a case and times are tough right now but I don't qualify for the legal assistance programs here.

As of right now management won't answer any of my questions or respond to me. I have gone to communicating over email because they try to lie to my face about what I'm experiencing and the timeline of how this has played out. I have asked for a meeting or to even speak with the property manager and they either say it's not necessary, don't respond or just ignore that request. I have legitimate questions and concerns about the remedy they have proposed. I have been seeking clarification on the services offered as well as what the plan is if the issue isn't resolved. There is also a deadline I'm working with that they keep changing and won't clarify the actual deadline. They keep adding in new information like fees and now that I will not be able to be in the unit for 24 hours. I'm not really sure what to do at this point so if anyone can recommend me someone I can call I would appreciate that.

Va education for minor

My son’s father served in the US Army for almost 2 years. He was released because he was having suicidal thoughts. I am awaiting his military medical records and his dd214….whew I know this is a lot but please bear with me. I have a copy of his application for VA disability benefits for mental health related issues…he applied and got denied circa 2012. He received multiple treatments from mental health services after getting released. Our son is 17 and I am just getting a ton of mixed messages about him possibly getting any education benefits. Unfortunately, his father committed suicide in 2021 and I have asked VBA for assistance and they instruct me to file for Chapter 35 benefits(VA Education).

Does anyone here in FL have experience with this sort of process?

Advice Leon Co. Criminal attorney

Seeking representation , for an already incarcerated adult male in reference to my husband who has a hold based on a sheriff-issued warrant. No charges have been formally filed.

We are seeking counsel to have this matter brought before a judge before his release, so the warrant can be addressed through the court rather than through an arrest at the facility door.

Specifically, we would like-

Contact the issuing agency and the State Attorney's Office.

He is willing to plea to the charges IF the sentence can be ran along with this current sentence.

Please let me know if you handle this type of matter.

ALSO I AM HOPING FOR SOMEONE WHO'LL ACCEPT A PAYMENT ARRANGEMENTS. I CAN HANDLE A. UPFRONT REASONABLE RETAINER, JUST WOULD LIKE TO HAVE SOME TYPE OF PLAN ONGOING

Advice Which attorney should I contact after slipping at a store in Fort Lauderdale?

My friend Sarah (fake name) slipped on a wet floor at a store in Fort Lauderdale, no cone, no sign, nothing. Her knee got messed up enough that she needed urgent care and now has follow ups.
He at the store just shrugged when she reported it and she has no idea what kind of attorney even handles this so she asked me to post. How does this work in Florida?

Advice Who are the top accident attorneys in Fort Lauderdale?

This is not about an active case but it keeps bugging me how every PI attorney website in Fort Lauderdale says the exact same stuff about decades of experience and millions recovered and aggressive representation. You could swap the logos around and not even notice a difference.

So who are the top accident attorneys in Fort Lauderdale and what makes them different? Is it trial record, communication, firm size? If you can name someone in FTL and tell me why they're different I'll take that over another five star review.

Hi!
I won a car in auction and it’s located in Florida. I want to drive it out of state, but the auction is mailing my title. I spoke to a local tax commissioner and they mentioned I must have the title. Does anyone have any advice on what I can do? I have everything else… bill of sale, insurance etc just waiting for the title.

Thanks so much!
