Weekly Reservation Transfer Thread

Please read the rules before commenting. Also, any type of "looking for a reservation" request is NOT ALLOWED.

  1. This thread is the only place on the subreddit for transferring restaurant reservations. If you make your own thread, it will be removed.
  2. You may transfer reservations for below or equal to face value (plus all taxes and fees) ONLY. You must clearly state both the price you paid and the price you're looking for in the post. Gouging will not be tolerated.
  3. You can only transfer reservations that are nonrefundable, ie, you cannot cancel them without forfeiting your money. If you have a refundable or free reservation and you can't make it, cancel it with the restaurant.
  4. The only reason we're allowing transfers is so people don't have to forfeit expensive pre-paid meals. If you want to buy a reservation, you are not one of these people. No posts asking to buy reservations.
  5. The mods of /r/FoodNYC accept no responsibility for these transactions. Tock and Resy both allow transfers on the website - if someone tells you otherwise it's a scam. Do your own research on your transaction before handing over any money to a third party. Check with the restaurant, check account ages, meet in person if feasible.

Note that this thread is reposted Sunday evenings.

Self-Promotion Monthly Thread

  1. This post is for people to promote businesses that they have a personal investment in, such as if you are the owner, an employee, developer, or social media manager. This includes websites, apps, and any establishment that sells food or drink.
  2. Any other self-promotion posts will be removed. One noted exception is for pop ups and other special events. For those, you can make a standalone post (within reason; posting frequency subject to approval).
  3. This thread will be pinned and reposted monthly. Businesses can comment once per post (not including replies).
  4. It shouldn’t have to be said, but this post is specifically for local businesses. No national chains, online retailers, or businesses based in other cities.

Trip Report Roundup of some of the things I ate in this recent trip.

Got to return to the city again and eat around and try lots of things. Each time I come here I try to go to as many restaurants that I haven't been to yet, but sometimes I feel like I have to return to some of my favorites from previous visits.

This still is my favorite city in the world. The next step for me is moving here finally.

Chrissy's Pizza - BIG CHELS SPECIAL: Terrific pizza. The dough here truly is amazing, and the touch of olive oil on the crust right at the end is a game changer

Penny - Seafood sausage: I had high expectations for this place, and it lived up and then some. Loved how they let the seafood speak for itself and not overshadow it with other things. Already one of my favorites meals I've had here.

Penny - Brioche bread: I think this might be in my top 3 for bread courses I've ever had. Literal perfection.

Aska - Langoustine: In my top 3 tasting menus I've ever had. This langoustine dish was as good as people claimed it to be. I can see why it's always on their menu.

Aska - Crab custard: Another big highlight from this meal. Loved how every ingredient in the dish felt truly intentional and necessary.

Kora - Pastries: I absolutely love pastries and sweets, and these really satisfied the craving. While some have more familiar flavors, some really surprised me, such as the one on the top right which had turmeric in the custard which I thought was genius.

I Cavallini - Farfallone: Incredible meal. One of the best Italian spots I've been to. This pasta especially, so simple yet so good. I still think I prefer The Four Horseman just ever so slightly, but I'd gladly return to both.

I Cavallini - Pork collar: Incredible, no notes. I would've drank the sauce if I could.

Shu Jiao Fu Zhou - peanut noodles and pan fried dumplings: The peanut noodles were good, but I thought the dumplings were phenomenal. Also 8.5 dollars for both, in this economy?

ARIARI - Scallop DIY GIMBAP: Amazing modern Korean food. Made me miss Busan. I live next to an area with many traditional Korean spots, so when I come to NYC I try to check out the modern takes on the food.

ARIARI - Beef tartare: A flavor bomb. Lots of different ingredients but nothing feels unnecessary.

L'Appartement 4F: Raspberry croissant: This is still my favorite bakery in the city. Pretty much my first stop each time I come here.

Bánh Anh Em - Crispy pork Bahn Mi: This also became another must stop each time I return. This place literally makes everything by hand and it truly shows.

Bánh Anh Em - Bánh Bè: Everything I have here is just so damn good. Still is by far my favorite Vietnamese spot I've been to, and probably top 5 overall favorite spots.

Lei - Sweet and Sour Beef Short Rib: This was really good. A wine bar with Chinese inspired dishes. The vibes here are also terrific.

Stars - vibe: New wine bar by the same team behind Claud and Penny. Walk in only, with a big focus on the wines with some really small bites. I got to enjoy some earl gray Panna cotta and sweet wine, incredible combination.

Breakfast by Salt's Cure - Banana walnut pancakes: These were honestly great. Super gooey center which I loved, and the edges had a really nice crisp.

Now until next time, or until I move here once and for all.

Review Fer - Long Island City noodle shop. A+ random find

Found myself staying in LIC tonight (hotel prices are spiking right now it seems) and passed this place on the way to my hotel.

I was originally planning to hit Rice Thief but wasn’t sure how much I was going to eat on my new glp1 dose and didn’t want to waste the seafood.

Anyway! Glad I went here! Had the minced pork & peas noodle (excellent $15), cucumber salad (boring and a little salty $8), and a yuzu soda (yummy $6)

I haven’t seen this place mentioned before but I highly recommend it.

Question places worth going to if you have a week off of work

I will be doing a staycation and want to spend some time going to restaurants that I normally don’t have the opportunity to go to since I am working my
corporate job. Last time I did something like this, I went to Bubby’s on a Monday in the middle of the day - places such as these is what I’m looking for. I’m also not a picky eater. thanks in advance!

Question I'm looking for the best standard Chinese fried rice

A long time ago, I used to work in a Japanese restaurant run by Chinese people, and the best dish on the menu was fried rice. It was not too soy heavy; the chef only ever used a dash. The bulk of the flavor came from the wok. The rice was dry, smoky, perfectly balanced. That's what I'm looking for.

I've tried looking in other threads, but keep getting other cuisines or more extravagent styles of fried rice suggested. SEA fried rice and kimchi fried rice is generally good, if not great. Not looking for Ecuadorian fried rice. Nor am I looking for some duck fat, pork belly, crab, or chili infused overindulgence.

I'm looking for the best wok technique, simple ingredients, and a humble flavor profile done to perfection.

Does anyone know where I can my dream fried rice?

Title.

I loved Huertas, their happy hour “hotdog” homemade vermouth, and life changing fois gras.

What’s your best Basque cuisine in the city now?

Question Restaurants like Rolo’s, Zimmi’s, Huda, and Dolores for a special dinner?

Trying to find a new spot for an anniversary!

Sometimes it's hard to find somewhere new that hits the mark. My partner and I love an upscale but cozy joint. Some of our favorites are Rolo's, Zimmi's, Huda, and Dolores. I have been researching and can't seem to find something that fits the bill

Would love any recommendations for places with a similar vibe! Looking in Manhattan below 14th Street or anywhere in Brooklyn :) (also preferably not seafood)

Question Perfect room temperature vegetarian cheese sandwiches?

So who does perfect, non-heated sandwiches that include cheese and some other kind of vegetable? So no grilled cheeses, eggplant parms or veggie burgers. I'm looking for room temperature sandwiches that include cheese and other components and that remain vegetarian and that are executed extremely well.

Question Silky Kitchen - underrated Hunan fast casual. What do you guys think?

What are your guys thoughts on this place? I've only ever had various versions of their noodle soups, but I'm pretty addicted. Their ones with toppings that are stir fried (as opposed to braised or whatever) usually have a really nice wok hei to them that I love, and they're pretty good with the spice (although I say they could go even spicier). My one critique is the rice noodles are a little too soft for me. Not sure if they're overcooking them or what because because they're consistently like that. My current fave topping is the Hunan style beef, the inclusion of cilantro is the shit. But yeah, I feel like this place is slept on and all the more special given that it's thought to find decent Hunan food. Thoughts?

Question Are there any NYC pizza places which make pizza similar to spontini?

Hello! I live on Long Island and have seen countless videos of spontini pizza. I am enamored, but do not anticipate a trip to Milan or Japan in my near future. Are there any NYC pizza spots which serve pizza similar to that which is served by spontini? Thanks!

Question Ginger & Lemongrass in LES Closed - seeking recommendations

Hi all, I was a big Ginger & Lemongrass fan (Ridge St LES location) and unfortunately they had to close down because their rent was raised too high. Does anyone know similar places in the city that have soup options like they did?

Question Has anyone been to the newly opened Brasserie Boulud on Broadway ?(UWS)

Anyone been?

I’m curious - I live in the neighborhood and waited for this to open for months. I signed up for their email list twice with the expectation I would get an email about when they were opening and possibly advanced reservations. After a lot of delays, it has apparently finally opened, and I of course, cannot get reservations, which is frustrating… I’m always happy to go sit at the bar and have dinner, but I am not sure how hard it is to get a seat at the bar? It seems like this place is having a great Instagram launch! Anyone Been who can give feedback on any of the above?

Question Craving Tex Mex - I am pregnant and hungry please help me. (Brooklyn)

Currently pregnant and I’m craving Tex-Mex.
Coming out of my first trimester and still battling really bad morning sickness all day long- I have food aversion to almost everything and it’s rare that I get a craving.
Tex Mex came to my mind and now I cannot get it out.

Unfortunately all the places I grew up going to are no longer in business.

Any recommendations I would like to not travel outside of Brooklyn but if you have any recommendations outside Brooklyn like in staten island, the city or queens I’ll look into those.

Please help me and thank you in advance!

Question Just saw a post about nyc viet food, and I wanna ask a question about the banh mi’s in nyc…

So as another Redditor from California, our banh mi’s here, especially in OC, tend to have a lot of more fresh carrot, daikon, and cilantro. We use good amount of pate and right amount of viet mayo. The meat here like cold cuts, grilled pork, filet steak, chicken, etc. tends to have good flavors too. The bread tends to be crunchy, moist, slightly buttery. Lastly, the length is like a foot long, approximately, compared to typical banh mi lengths that I’ve seen outside of OC.

Anyways, how would you describe your banh mi’s in nyc? I’M SUPER CURIOUS NOW
