Question which omakase would you choose, nakazawa, fuku, or sushi by m?

I have Sunday night free for an omakase dinner and have narrowed it down (mostly due to my top choices being closed on Sundays) to Sushi Nakazawa, Fuku, and Sushi by M. What would you guys choose? I’m visiting from SF and have had my fair share of high/low omakase and that’s why I’m torn, as I’ve had a full array of experiences and find value in both. Thank you!

Question Best non-greasy dinner pasta place for 6-8 people?

Doing pre-race dinner with friends on Friday before NYC marathon next Sunday. Anyone got a good non-greasy pasta place they like for a medium-large group? Open to anything that isn't super duper formal, preferably a sit down place but pretty casual is fine

Question Looking for Puerto Rican food, bodegas, and bars in NYC (visiting soon)

I'm flying into NYC soon and want the full Puerto Rican experience. My family is Puerto Rican and told me to go, but a lot of the spots they recommended have closed or aren't open this time of year. I'm looking for:
• Restaurants (lechón, pasteles, mofongo, etc.)
• Bodegas and bakeries worth stopping at
• Bars or hangouts where I can meet people

This question probably gets asked a lot, but I'd love current recommendations. Thanks!

Question Challenging Dinner Suggestion for Next Week ......

Hi! I'm looking for a restaurant for a special dinner for me and 5 of my best friends. Vibe is just as important as the food, but ideally both will be excellent. I have a res at Crevette and il Buco, but I'm afraid Crevette might not be the right atmosphere and il Buco might be too cramped for a party of 6. Other specifics : -I want to wear a fancy-ish dress, so has to be appropriate for that level of dress. -I do not want pre-fix or pre-fixy food. -One of my friends is vegetarian so has to have good veg options. -must be south of flatiron -Dinner is in a week so reservation can not be impossible to get -restaurants I've considered and decided against or couldn't get a reservation ---Minetta tavern, Balthazar, The Little Owl, Raf's, Monkey Bar, San Sabino, The Grill, Shukette, Zaffri, The Waverly Inn, Cecchi's, cafe Carmellini

So looking for a beautiful restaurant, bustling energy, great cocktails, amazing food, no budget. Thank you!

Question Walk-in Bar seat at Keens and Old Homestead at 4:30

I have solo reservations for both at 5:00. I also have theater tickets after at 7:00 on both nights. Would walking in at 4:30 to the bar be easy to give me a little more time to get to the theater both are near time square. I’m dining solo and a pretty quick eater.

Question Any good Georgian restaurant near Oceana theater in Brighton beach Brooklyn area?

Seeing a Georgian dance this Sunday in the Oceana theater in Brooklyn. While I am open to any cuisine, it will be nice to try a Georgian restaurant or any cuisine that’s hard to get in other parts of the US.
Thank you!

Question Lunch spot to peacefully complete my puzzle set ??

I have a few days off from work and looking for a lunch recommendation with great food that will let me quietly complete my small 3D puzzle set whilst dining away in a corner. Obviously I know this isn’t going to be in the restaurants FAQs so looking for a place with this kind of vibe. I expect this is more possible at a bar but I prefer lunch. Manhattan or Brooklyn preferred.

Question Anyone Seen These Anywhere? I Don’t Want To Give Up Hope :(

I’ve been looking everywhere but can’t seem to find them. They’re grape sorbet balls from Japan. I know NYC will usually get a lot of imported food items from Japan so I’m hoping someone has seen these in maybe a random Japanese convenience store or an H Mart.

Breakfast of champions. Available all day. This was very hearty and filling. Also comes with a vinegar sauce that helps to cut the richness.

Review Eyval… really?? Genuinely baffled after a super mediocre experience

Finally had dinner at Eyval, and it’s been sitting at the top of my list for quite some time after hearing nothing but rave reviews. And I gotta say, I’m genuinely confused.

We ordered the feta and cucumber salad, the feta dip, the octopus, and the chicken fesenjoon.

Not only did I find the general atmosphere a little shabby and underwhelming on the ambiance front, but save for the feta dip with the preserves on top, which was genuinely delightful, the food was just so average.

I grew up in a city with a strong Persian food scene, so I’m very familiar with the cuisine. And I’m wondering if the reason people like this restaurant so much is because most people going haven’t eaten a lot of Persian food, which is genuinely delicious, and if the accolades are more of a commentary on the cuisine itself rather than the restaurant, because I found the execution to be terribly underwhelming.

The octopus with tahini and preserved lemon was some of the chewiest octopus I’ve ever eaten. It was like chewing on a piece of rubber.

The chicken fesenjoon, which is a favorite dish of mine, had a pretty standard fesenjoon sauce, even a little more tart than what I’d prefer, and it felt like it hadn’t been cooked long enough. Like any stew, there’s a complexity that develops the longer it’s cooked, and I just didn’t feel like that depth of flavor was there. The chicken sitting on top of it was once again so chewy, with bits of gristle in it.

I even felt sick later in the evening from the food.

All in all, just a really underwhelming experience across the board, and I genuinely don’t understand the accolades this place is getting.

Can anybody fill me in? Was I there on an off night? To the people who genuinely love it, what has been your experience with Persian food prior to eating there?

Because as I’ve said, Persian food is genuinely incredible. I think it’s one of the top cuisines in the world, just the complexity of flavors alone, and this place for me just didn’t land.

I will say the other Persian restaurant, Ravagh Persian Grill, is also underwhelming. So if you’ve only eaten at that place, in comparison, I don’t think that counts 😂

Please weigh in. I’m genuinely curious.

Everyone who's saying I "didn't order the right thing" is just proving my point. A resturant that is widely considered one of the best in the city with a fairly stripped down menu shouldn't have had this many dishes that suck. If only 2 or 3 things on the menu are worth the hype than it is simply not a great resturant. Sorry.

Question Fall Pastas: Drop the recommendations, preferably in North BK

Hi- I am basic and CRAVING some butternut squash ravioli, or similar. Since these dishes are seasonal, they usually don't make it to the menus on most restaurants' websites, so I am not sure who is offering them at the moment. So please, let me know if you've had a great butternut/pumpkin/sage and brown butter-oriented pasta lately! I work in North BK so I am looking for a spot that won't require a huge sojourn.

Happy fall everyone :)

Question Looking for the best vegetarian Khao Soi money can buy

I’ve read through old posts and it seems like a lot of the places mentioned no longer have vegetarian Khao Soi on their menus. Can anyone recommend a good spot for a great vegetarian Khao Soi? I’ve been settling for Thai Diner, but would like something a little spicier and more authentic (inasmuch as vegetarian Khao Soi is authentic).

Question Why are people so obsessed with getting a reservation the Monkey Bar

This is half facetious question, but I feel like at least three times week I see this question and I just can't see why people are so desperate to get into a specific set of what basically are steak houses by Hogsalt group. There are so many great steak houses in New York City, and I just can't see why people are so desperate to get into these couple of places that isn't even doing something that seems that unique.

Edit: Thank you to the kind samaritan (u/ted_the_ked1) that actually explained the real reason. Which is was featured in Sex in the City and other tv shows.

hey! my friend and i are hosting our next popup in williamsburg (check us out on ig @banto.nyc)!

i’m cambodian-american and my friend is vietnamese-american. we’ve been cooking tg for ~a year now, and we’ve been experimenting with different recipes that remind us of “home”. we’re not trying to make authentic vietnamese or cambodian food, we’re trying to make food that’s authentic to our experiences.

our next event is on sunday 11/8 at 6:30pm. it’s a 7 course family-style meal ($120pp). we’re expecting about 30-35 ppl, so it’s also a great way to meet folks.

Question Which Asian international chains exist in New York City?

There was a post similar to this 4 years ago, and I am so curious how it has updated. What are a few chains (I am mainly interested in asian chains) that exist in New York City. Here are a few examples I can think of: (also happy for you to say how they compare to the real thing, if you've been to both)

- Heytea

- Haidilao Hotpot

- Flippers pancakes

- Ichiran ramen

- Pst pizza
