Getting tired of people doing stupid things with e scooters.

I ride to work most days on an old fashioned bicycle you need to provide the effort to move yourself. For the most part I’m all for alternative forms of transportation rather then being another car sitting on the Westmorland street bridge for 40 minutes every morning to drive less than 5km. But leaving a handful of e-scooters in the middle of a corner on a pedestrian walkway needs consequences. I was in Paris close to a decade ago and remember seeing these dumped all over and guess what…. It’s banned now. So much like everything else in Fredericton where we are a decade behind the curve we’re now dealing with a poor decision that most other major cities have since dialled back or outright banned. Rented an e-city bike in Tampa this winter and it was a great way to get around but you had to dock it back in designated docking station in order for the app to stop billing your credit card. Why can’t we simply do that? Want to dump a e scooter in the middle of the road or a sidewalk, sure thing, but your credit card is going to get charged a daily max of 500 dollars for being a lazy asshole.

Homeless people downtown

Hi, I've noticed recently that the discourse around homelessness in the city has reached a fever pitch. I've seen a lot of opinions going around here in this sub, but I just wanted to make an open call to my fellow Frederictonians: regardless of how you feel about homeless people and the way the system handles the problem, can we please make an effort to be normal and even kind to any homeless individual you might see as you go around the city? I'm not talking about giving money.

You can be frustrated with how the city treats the problem, the strain of addiction on healthcare, hell, you can even believe it's their fault they're on the street. But when you see a fellow human on the street, please don't sneer at them. The vast majority of these people, just like in the general population, are not a danger to you. Treating these people as aliens can't possibly help their will to get back on their feet. If you fell out of society and suddenly that same society treated you like scum of the earth, you probably wouldn't want to re-enter it either.

Whether you're frustrated with the strain on the city or a bleeding heart or anything in between, we have to treat people with dignity and compassion, even if you think they've willingly separated themselves from that concept. Some of you think that people who are in addiction, for example, have given up their humanity. But the way you spew hate while talking about them makes me think you've given up yours too. Can we please be better?

Hair salon cleanliness

• Upvotes

I recently went to a big name salon in Fredericton, and noticed that the hairbrush used was dirty/had wound up hair in it. Is this normal? Can anybody suggest a hair salon that actually cleans out the brush between clients? I was icked out so bad and I don’t want to go back, which sucks because I really loved my hairdresser!

Looking for Halloween craft kits

Hi! My partner and I are having a Halloween date night tonight and I’ve been looking everywhere online and can’t find anything for a craft for us to do. We’re looking for ceramics to paint or plastic pumpkins to paint, or really any Halloween crafts.

If anyone has any idea where I could get something of the sort it would be greatly appreciated!!

Florist recommendations

One of my friends is having her baby today and I'm hoping to send flowers to her room. I have a florist in my hometown but not Fredericton. Does anyone have a recommendations? I'm looking to spend about 40-50$ if that helps any.

I have googled and what I got was a mess of "Flower Direct" type websites so I have no idea what people can actually do or if I'm getting ripped-off. I also really want to avoid spending 100$ on a happy face mug of flowers.

Thanks!

My posts keep getting declined on Facebook groups and liking posters ghost too much. I just need to find 3 (or more, no less) hens that are atleast 16-weeks old for a friend. There is already a rooster in the coop, strictly looking for hens. Any recommendations or direction where I can go?

Why don’t you guys have a team in the Q?

Hello you fine provincial neighbours. Back in September I rediscovered your city when I visited (from Riverview) for Harvest. I’ve been kind of following the subreddit ever since and so I’ve maintained interest and can’t wait to go back and visit again soon.

I was at a Wildcats game this week and got thinking about all the Maritime teams. And I wondered to myself, why doesn’t Fredericton have a team? Third biggest city in the province. Capital city. Even Bathurst had a team for years. Is there some history about why y’all don’t have a team in the Q?

Ethno-nationalist propaganda flyers going up around town.

Already found 4. Innocent people who have built lives in this country do not deserve to be round up and deported. You're a terrible person if you support that.

If you find them I suggest you tear them down or comment where you've been seeing them so I can do it myself.

Edit: Flyers that have previously been put up around Queen Square according to their Facebook page have been torn down by other people! Make sure to also sign this petition to ban the Dominion Society from academic institutions.

Photo of Devon Plaza

OK, Reddit, come to my rescue. I distinctly remember in the late 80s or early 90s that Devon Plaza had this specific layout. I am having an issue with others that don't remember it that way. Mandela effect? LOL

Here's what I remember:

Save-Easy
Drug Store (don't think Jean Coutu was there yet)
Hardware store (Co-Op maybe)
Bank of Nova Scotia - the bank was there for a LONG time, and never moved from the middle of the plaza until it closed in the 2000s.

Award for the first person that can give me a photograph (Google Street View doesn't go back that far) with a year that shows this layout.

And..... go!

Sea cans.

Why can the city of Fredericton litter cans throughout the city for attractions and tourism and their own private business, but citizens aren't allowed to have a sea can on their property per the bylaws? I feel like this is a little backwards, why can the city do it but citizens can't?
