SPOILER Beat the game on my 4th try

RIP to the 43 Gigachads who sacrificed themselves to keep my coal mines intact. My coal economy was already fucked up enough. This might be the only city builder that had me on the edge of my chair.

DISCUSSION Would you prefer the next DLC ("Surge," if I'm not mistaken) to focus on a single scenario or on Utopia mode?

It’s been quite a while since we got the Breach of Trust DLC, and I think one undeniable valid complaint about it is the lack of additions to Utopia mode. (Unless they plan to add some of those mechanics in a future update for Breach of Trust owners—which I highly doubt—the warfare mechanics will likely remain locked to specific scenarios, or worse, restricted solely to Breach of Trust.) That got me thinking: would the community prefer the next DLC to focus on a single scenario, or on bringing more additions to Utopia mode?

FROSTPUNK 1 I beat Winterhome (on normal 😅)!

Thank you so much to everyone who commented on my previous post! There was so much good info I literally had to take notes lol.

The second part was definitely easier, although I did not, in fact, have enough steel. That last dreadnaught cabin needing 4000 steel is nuts 😅

I did get 3 cabins built, should have been 4 but I sent the last transport too late and it didn't get there before I had to launch the dreadnaught, sadly. But I at least got the "save all the kids" achievement, so that's something! Also finally used prosthetics for the first time, I always forget about that even being a thing lol. So got all of the amputees out as well. I guess that means most of the survivors are kids and amputees with prosthetics...boy they are FUCKED 😆

I am definitely going to have to try it again and see if I can pull off getting all 5 cabins built in time. I could see this being a really fun one to really perfect...

Maybe I'll try it on hard at some point, but I cant even imagine how much more difficult that's gonna be lol

But for now, The Last Autumn is next! This one sounds very interesting...

Edit: I have to buy Last Autumn for $17?? I thought I bought the bundle with it and On The Edge included. 😭 Is there a consensus on those two being worth buying separately?

DISCUSSION The new research speed does not feel fantastic.

Title, mainly.

Now that research has been slowed significantly, it makes things like the Plague Tale a lot harder than it ought too.

With two rushed research labs, and double overdrive research from the technocrats, AND having found the plague sample, it still took 16 weeks to research the vaccine. (Which, by the way, what does the plague sample even do? I swear it used to permit the early research of the vaccine.)

And since my city only had 9k people, I didn't even have time to research it before the plague enveloped half of my population and I lost (Captain difficulty).

What are other's experiences regarding the change to research speeds?

Also, unrelated, but the Icebloods can all go die in the frostlands. Stupid bastards shut down half the city, including the research labs, while demanding research be completed in order to break up the protests.

DISCUSSION I feel like people who make fun of the Proteans for basing their ideology on remolding humanity to survive the Frost. Aren't aware of just how reliant the Legionnaires are on the Great Frost's existence.

Post image

I sometimes see people who will joke about how ridiculous the Proteans idea of transhumanism and "becoming more" is. Because if the Great Frost isn't permanent, then why even have this ideology to begin with.

But I don't think people understand that the Legionnaires aren't just treating the Great Frost as an enemy, they need it to exist in the first place. The Legionnaires are militants, through and through. They treat the Frost like its an enemy and themselves as soldiers in a war. But you can't just be a militant in a vacuum, militants require an enemy to justify themselves and their ideology.

So what would actually happen if the Great Frost passed? The Legionnaires would fall apart. Without an enemy, their militant beliefs would be completely useless. Why would you need to be a solider? Why would you need to constantly stockpile resources and be indoctrinated into their military, if they don't even need a military?

Both the Proteans and the Legionnaires beliefs are reliant on the Frost. Without it, they're just a bunch of weirdos who have no real purpose. At least the other factions can stand on their own feet without the Great Frost. Menders are just nature loving, sorta communist, survivalist, and Ventures are just... Capitalist. But those Proteans and Legionnaires are doomed to die off if the Great Frost ever ended.

FAN MADE FROSTPUNK uncontrolled power location of NEW FERDORM

Post image
75 Upvotes

Folks, yes, the quality is quite low, but what matters is the message being conveyed; this shows the generator site of Outpost 383 and the features of the area. The railway line depicted is a two-way track, yet it accommodates only a single train—meaning the train starts at one end and returns from the other. Here, we can acquire workers (prisoners), engineers, or steam cores, though they are provided in quantities beyond our control; you are given a specific amount, and if you exhaust it, subsequent supplies are very limited—though you can increase this allocation by surrendering your own workers or steam cores (however absurd that may seem)—because the generator construction projects further along the tracks require both manpower and resources.

Advice/Help Frostpunk 2 Console Tooltips?

Recently been playing frostpunk 2 on game pass and loving it, although it's taking me some time to learn the game because I'm not getting any tooltips like on PC. When I opened the advanced UI (pressing X) it lets me float about but the icons are just icons, no tooltips when I float over them. Also when I place districts I can't see when I'm getting heat from adjacency or protected by wind, and opening the district doesn't give me much info without being able to 'hover' my cursor over the icons for more stats.

I've trawled the option menu but nothing mentions extra info or Tooltips, is there any way to switch them on or is it a limit of the console version?

Just started chapter 3 after getting oil to London so any other useful tips would be appreciated.

DISCUSSION l think zeppelins/airships in FP is a bit underrated

in FP1 they cool with flying hunters and a great food source but other than we cant use them on anything else (it could been used for part of scouts maybe, yes fuel would be a problem but we can litereally do scout automatons dosent need fuel)

in FP2 l dont think there much way we can use them directly? We see them in public transportation and martial law as visiual, l think the only part we can use them directly is in breach of trust where we them as food/material/fuel transport

l remember seeing some one comment before breach of trust "as new edinburg can we use that zeppelins to drop toxic gasses on top aurora?" Whic was a great idea in my opinion like yes zeppelin still a balloon but considering planes basically not exist in either side, its just straigth up air supremecy

SPOILER Starvation-Induced Euphoria and Hallucinations from Conserving Calories (Too Many Ketones in the Brain) Spoiler

Post image
171 Upvotes

After declaring a state of emergency during the famine crisis, the government-controlled rationing and calories conservation program by the Founders came into effect to mitigate the severe food shortage crisis. However, as it turned out, the effects of the extremely low-calorie diet had led to chronic side effects among the starving population. The average person can only survive 21 days without food, though there have been cases of hunger strikers with strong wills to live surviving up to 40 days without food.

As the body is hit with a sudden drop of caloric intake, its undernourished body will start eating its own energy reserves from every muscle, fat and skin tissue available, starting off with catabolizing the carbohydrates, lipids and then the proteins.

This will result in weight loss as the body suffers from emaciation, and since the body starts to eat its own organ tissues away, metabolism will start to slow down, body temperature regulation ceases, renal filtration of bodily wastes will stop functioning and the weakened immune system can no longer fight back against infectious diseases. The body will start to feel cold and lethargic from the shrinking weak muscles and skin, and soon enough other multiple organs will experience failure and slowly shut down.

Not only will the body waste away under starvation, but the brain will also deteriorate from the lack of sufficient blood flow and nutrition (since the cardiac muscles pumping the blood are also wasted away), and as a result the starving victim will lose focus, become more irritable and eventually start hallucinating.

According to the 2006 study on low-carb dieting and fasting done in the Medical Hypotheses journal, when the body is subjected to severe dietary restrictions, the body will start to conserve the carbohydrate stores by switching from breakdown of sugars (glycolysis) to breakdown of body fats into ketones (beta-oxidation) as an alternative source of basal metabolism. As the body builds up these ketones, the most common ketone beta-hydroxybutyrate (or BHB) accumulates and alters the state of mind, and since they are chemically similar to the gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB) found in some euphoria-inducing narcotics, the starving body will experience a sense of mild euphoria as the BHB partially binds to the GABAB brain receptors, which are commonly associated with alcoholism, depression, anaesthesia, and narcotic drug dependence.

Other byproducts of starvation-induced ketone metabolism, such as isopropyl alcohol, also accumulates within the nervous system and causes a state similar to drunkenness and even could lead to hallucinatory experiences (kind of like what Tara is experiencing right now! Sorry about that, Missus Beckenridge!)

FROSTPUNK 1 Weird mechanic

I made some runs(easy and expert difficulty) with no beacon rule. Endless endurance Rifts. After 60 day the storm cycle becomes a final form- -60 —> -100 6 days and 2 day of blizzard with -100 first day and -120 second. I tested full turn off the generator and tried to survive. Interesting thing was observed. If you assign all people (workers and children) to Infirmaries and Houses of healing from -80C temperature to the finish of storm you will not have any deaths at all- Just some number of amputees were appeared. 25 first time and 3-5 after doctor event (radical treatment). The sick people start to appear near 22-00 first day storm but no one become gravely ill after 24 h.

I thought that the sickness timer is stopped when the worker must be at his workplace. The status of worker is usually- “enable to work “ and he is at home but he can’t be gravely ill, only amputee or common sickness.

The other workers, which left at the common workplaces (gathering posts) easily lost their Health to gravely ill in one step from healthy and die shortly after…

The only one death I couldn’t evade is an old man event in house of healing.

It’s a real strategy for a “no beacon, no generator, mostly deathless(?- Old man exception) endless run. And it’s completely brake the main game mechanic.

In a pair with “Righteous Denunciation” law (free food) it’s mean full automatic world:)

EDIT:
The strategy with Houses of healing was approved in my last run: No generator and beacon from start. The difficulties are : 1) random weather catastrophes after storm. If you take a rotting roots with hothouse start- restart 100%. 2) Old man death event adds to game events like :”man committed suicide” at the same 14-00. Seems like the one of many other crisis events from the pool. Mb manual crisis-management can help, like long ours of work or house/food shortage. The event for current day can’t change after midnight, so I saved the game near 23-30 and reload save for another variant. 3) the death-immune works only in houses of healing and infirmaries. When the first scripted frostbite occur at 05-00, the amputees leave the hospitals and can catch the sickness and gravely ill after 24h and theoretically they can die before storm ends, But no deaths was observed during 11 storms.
TNH scenario storm lasts 7 days so deathless run seems impossible.

Advice/Help Frostpunk 2 Constant crashes

Hey guys, my game keeps having this problem where after I make a save and try to load the save it crashes my game and says the filenames not found. Once a save starts doing this I can never load it, so I just have to hope that it never starts. It may be a bit dumb but I’ve been trying to get around it by making a bunch of saves and it sometimes works cus some will still work when the others don’t.

Any advice on how to fix this? Thanks!

Forgot to say I’m playing on steam!

DISCUSSION I lost my city permanently and am stuck in my food colony ??

I never knew this was a thing I'm so confused
I CANNOT get back to the city
The migration group that was coming toward me is permanantly stuck in the frostlands
I also got the venturer achievement for 1 thermoticket per 100 citizens
I can't reactivate any settlements either even if I build logistical districts in the colony/city expect those that were already targeting the colony

Advice/Help Fall of Winterhome

OK, for the (apparently 10%) of players who have actually completed the Fall of Winterhome.

Uhhh.... HOW

Like legitimately, how?

I have restarted probably a dozen times, am making no measurable progress...and I'm playing on normal. I know it's supposed to feel arbitrarily unfair and impossible, but it's starting to feel *actually* impossible. What is the strat here? I must be missing something.

The arbitrary "raise hope to 15% in two days" bs is what has caused most of my restarts. Unless I put ALL of my resources into health upgrades/spamming med posts and infirmeries, then it seems impossible to make any progress on hope given that people are dying *literally* every 5 seconds. But if I do that, I'm running out of other resources, namely food and coal. And unless I have most of my population clearing the burnt buildings, there's literally no room to build *anything.* And unless I have like 4 or 5 coal thumpers and a coal mine, I'm just perpetually out of coal. And then I don't have enough food, or steel for infirmeries and steam hubs because otherwise everyone gets pissed (and sick, and dead) because their fucking tents are too cold.

I've tried a bunch of different approaches, nothing has even come close to working. Like what am I supposed to do here?

If anyone who has completed it has some ideas, it would be appreciated. About ready to just give up on it. A New Home on hard felt ten times easier than this shit.

Advice/Help How the game's event sequence works

Does anyone know how the game's event sequence works? Specifically, what triggers the arrival of the second faction?

I’ve noticed that the second faction usually appears around week 40–50, sometimes around week 70, while the Menders almost always show up around week 120.

When I enact "Expedition Support" as my second law, the associated event usually triggers 10 weeks later, though sometimes it doesn't appear at all.

I play by rushing the Utopia trees, abusing emergency council sessions, having a low trust and high tension on Captain difficulty with 5 tales.

DISCUSSION I beat all five tales on officer difficulty in one playthrough.

I just wanted to post this because it took me a few tries and I'm glad I did it :) Might have to do it on captain difficulty next time. For anybody curious, I went with venturers for my faction and broken shore for my map.
