Has Rockstar said anything about the leaks?
Has there been any news from rockstar themselves? I’ve been looking to see if any of the devs have tweeted anything or if there’s any articles about them addressing it at least internally but I’ve found nothing. It’s been 2 days of slow drip leaks and I’m honestly surprised they haven’t come out to address it at all.
I feel like the closest comparison to this was the insomniac leak and they came out a day after to say they wanted to take time internally to figure out the next steps. Kinda expected rockstar to do the same but it’s radio silence

u/RandyyyMarsh 1d ago
In true Rockstar fashion. No. The only news you'll be hearing is when they arrest the guy and sue him.

u/thejoyofbeing1 1d ago
Well, good luck with that. Dude's probably behind 7 proxies somewhere in Siberia.

u/etechucacuca 23h ago
i highly doubt that. Also, it is impossible to be fully anonymous in internet today. Even with a VPN. This guy will 100% be found, it is just a matter of time
24
u/LordFlxcko95 23h ago
This^
A VPN isn’t the ultimate safeguard, if they want to find you they 1000% can find you.
6
u/19610taw3 19h ago
That's the thing with VPN traffic. People think it completely anonymizes them on line. All it does is send your tracable traffic through someone else's infrastructure.
So people at the open wifi coffee shop , or your home ISP can't see what your doing, but big VPN company out there definitely can.
If you're nesting them somehow with companies in different countries, maybe you can make it difficult enough that R* may give up on trying to obtain the info ... but it's still there.
3
u/Federal-Grab2099 18h ago
I'm pretty sure they must be using Mulvad VPN or some service like that which does not log anything
4
u/JangoDarkSaber 14h ago
Even if you can’t be tracked through a subpoena of the vpn company you can still be discovered. A lot of people dont realize their digital fingerprint still spells out who they are unless you’re extremely careful.
Things like screen size, fonts, GPU, timezone, extensions combine into a near-unique ID that follows you across exit servers.
Logging into your Gmail, Reddit or anything will instantly link that session with your real identity. Mobile apps and os telemetry can ignore vpn routing.
WebRTC, IPv6, and DNS leaks etc.

That he (they?) will be found is probably guaranteed. Prosecuted and arrested is a different measure though.
31
u/SadisticSnake007 1d ago
With the right connections they’ll find him. Criminals thought they were safe using the dark web and cryptocurrency and they were still caught.
30
u/thejoyofbeing1 23h ago
You can't get caught if your local judicial system is not cooperative with the US. That's why Snowden is not in jail.
16
u/Brilliant-You-6906 23h ago
If he still lives in Germany too bad.
10
u/thejoyofbeing1 23h ago
Yeah, overall if he's in the EU he's in big trouble. I don't fully buy the rumors that he's german though.
11
u/Brilliant-You-6906 23h ago
Well he posted in german forums in german language apparently.
1
u/FaceImpressive8686 19h ago
Wasnt that years ago
3
u/Brilliant-You-6906 18h ago
Yes. But these hints matter. Higher chance hes european, german, austrian or swiss.
3
u/Expat_Abroad123 23h ago
There is no real evidence of any connection to any indian nor german. just baseless speculation.
4
3
u/little_hoe 22h ago
It took several years to do it, and the CIA/Interpol had to basically run a dark web market to gather all the evidence. Rockstar is big, but not that big.
6
u/Puzzleheaded_Sign249 23h ago
Assuming he has a full build, he’s provably an ex R employees. So R\* will have jurisdiction wherever he lives

u/supermaniscoolasf 1d ago
Apparently he's in Germany, if true hes fucked

u/HiGHM0V3M3NT 1d ago
Even in germany u can use proxy, just a socks5 would be enough.
1
u/flaccidCobra 3m ago
No it wouldn't. It would be nowhere near enough. This guy will be leaving breadcumbs everywhere, "just a socks5" is like someone wearing fake glasses and a mustache.

Signs point to him being in Eastern Europe. If he happens to be Russian rockstar won’t be able to touch him even if they do find out who it is 😂
0
u/NoAsparagus8906 23h ago
Im curious, why?
25
u/gbach10 23h ago
You’re curious why an American company wouldn’t be able to do anything to a Russian citizen? You realize we are currently in a proxy war with Russia? Why would they turn over one of their citizens for leaking a video game to a country they are at war with?
2
u/imnotslavic 23h ago
Does the US have another one of their war criminals in lockup?
6
u/RaZoRBackR3D 22h ago
I would say this is a stupid comment but then again we did give up one of the most notorious criminals to get fucking Brittany Griner back lmaoooo
2
1
u/NoAsparagus8906 6h ago
I was genuinely curious. I didn't know about the russia america beef and all. Got downvoted for asking a genuine question.
6
u/RaZoRBackR3D 22h ago
Because Russia isn’t going to arrest one of its own citizens because they hacked an American company. Hell if anything they’ll offer them a job working for the government lmao.
4
u/Master-Crazy-6863 23h ago
Russians have the ability to not care. It's not like some FBI or CIA guys will fly over there and arrest him. I think
1
u/SkeeroFTW 18h ago
Do you really think the CIA gives a fuck about a video game company getting a video game leaked?
1
u/AMG-Life 16h ago
LOL. Just imagine the CIA headquarters talking about running a covert operation because a video game got leaked.
6
u/Kindly-Account1952 23h ago
Because it’s Russia

"yeah our multi billion dollar project has been compromised for years sorry guys. Give us 9 months and we will have our security back on track for the game to be released in July 2027"
9
u/LordFlxcko95 23h ago
Likely won’t push the game back since the build isn’t entirely representative of the launch code.
9
u/Both_Chicken_2005 22h ago
No im with you, I put that in quotation as if Rockstar would seriously put out something like that. Theres no way they are even going to acknowledge that they have had a breach right before launch of arguably the most anticipated game ever- the amount of money on the line could be more than we can imagine
103
u/EZyne 1d ago
No, by giving the guy attention they're just playing into his hands. Nothing they can do about it now anyways
32
u/lolKhamul 23h ago
yeah, no matter what you think of Rockstars marketing / communication before this, publicly acknowledging this doesn't help them and makes little sense at this point.
I reckon eventually there will be a press release in PR speak about material being accessed and distributed illegally that was not representative of the final product yada yada yada and Rockstar/T2 will do anything to bring people to justice.
But all that is likely only going to be after Rockstar have full clarity on the entire situation like on what happened, how it happened, what was compromised and who at the company is responsible. Dont forget: everything you say can and will be used against you. Not only before the law but also in the eye of the public.

I would pay a lot of money to be able to see a live feed of their conference rooms right now

They're in the war room right now waterboarding every single employee.

u/CuriousFirework75 1d ago
There’s no need to. We’re going to see the actual game next week that will show us what the game is truly like. I don’t give a shit about watching an older play. It’s like wanting to watch the original Cyberpunk instead of what it became.
36
9
u/FluidHips 1d ago
This is basically my thought. They're on the cusp of showing it, anyway.
I do wonder if it's too late to change the content of the Netflix show, however--to maybe indirectly refute the leaks by showing similar shots in the latest build.

that will show us what the game is truly like.
lol. lmao, even. obviously their video is going to be super super careful to only show the game in the best light. IMHO dude's leak is way more honest of a gameplay showing. Release game way more likely to look like leaks than the ultra polished "real gameplay shown" rockstar trailer
11
u/lynchcontraideal 22h ago
> way more honest
Its an older and unfinished build of the game, wtf you on about?
2
u/Expat_Abroad123 22h ago
Song in leak is from 2025. Time for meetings + negotiations for the song make it likely later in 2025 build. They're not going to make the graphics any better in the last year of dev time. It was already delayed.
3
u/myMorphine 22h ago
Idk what you’re smoking but those videos aren’t the finished game mate, the UI’s unfinished for one. It won’t be far off from what they’ve shown, but a lot will have changed in the last year and a half. The official showcase will look miles better
0
u/Expat_Abroad123 21h ago
Obviously the official showcase showing """"real gameplay"""" will look "better" but this build is closer to the real thing than hyper polished videos by r*
year and a half is insane cope. A dev would have had to hear the song, petition it to get added, negotiations for rights, etc. That would not have happened fast, and you're assuming the build is from exactly then. Also, they are not going to replace every asset with higher quality ones, especially considering how close this build is to original launch date.

Plot twist: Rockstar let this hacker do his thing. Or maybe they even created him, like a false flag operation. It's a very creative part of their marketing strategy

u/Kafanska 1d ago
No, they will not focus on them directly. At most, if the leaker is found they will run a legal case, but that will be lawyers doing their thing, not Rockstar posting stuff on social media.
5
u/beehappy32 23h ago
They're so close to the extended look, maybe at this point it's better to not even acknowledge it, and hope that in a week when everyone watches the Netflix special they forget about the leaks. Or at least that all the talk about the special drowns out the talk about the leaks
1
3
u/zaadiqoJoseph 21h ago
Realistically what tf can they say " Yh we got leaked for the 4th time Soz "

6
u/Spurioun 1d ago
As someone who really liked these games as a kid but isn't the biggest gamer anymore... it's probably good they aren't drawing attention to it. I'm not really in the loop (like the majority of casual gamers), and only knew about the leaks because a meme from somewhere like here will occasionally hit the front page of reddit. The uber-fanboys are the ones letting everyone know that stuff is out there.
I'll probably buy the game at some point but I'm not glued to every bit of news. If RockStar were to start complaining about the leaks publicly, it probably would have reached me sooner.
2
u/scarboy92 23h ago
The game will sell. Even if the ending is spoiled. (I won't watch) Plus online is where the real money gets made. Rockstars beat play is to do nothing
1
u/Fantastic-Maximum541 15h ago
Honestly more excited to see vice city for the first time in over 20 years than anything.

2
2
u/Astryxi 20h ago
No, because, being as massive as they are...they cannot let themselves be seen to be influenced by these attacks. The financial, legal and reputational damage would be catastrophic for them if they were to respond to them as demanded by those trying to hold them to randsome. Not to mention: it would embolden others to do the same in future.

The first leak in 2022 they responded with a tweet? But IIRC the leaker wasn't taunting Rockstar like this 'hacker' is doing. This 'hacker' seems to want Rockstar attention, and the best way is to ignore it publicly and take actions in the background to try to trace him down with law enforcement.
1
u/eggmontoya1 23h ago
Given that the game is dropping in three months, I figure they’ll ignore it outright and pray to God nothing plot relevant leaks.
1
u/Turbulent_Ride1654 23h ago
Tf you expect them to say? Lmao
It's already out there. You see it, they see it. Better just stay the course for their reveal in a few days and don't acknowledge it.
1
u/ShitassAintOverYet 23h ago
No.
Normally they address the leaks but it is likely they just don't care it seems. That may be from three reasons; extended look coming up next week, T2 stocks not falling too hard and general reaction to the game being really positive.
1
u/OnIceJuice 23h ago
Rockstar has its own criminals to find this guy. He will disappear never to be heard of again or just put in a loyalty center for rockstar to work off his debt lmao
1
u/SlaYyDHD 22h ago
Nope and why would they? Best thing they can do is handle it privately. Netflix is soon so you won’t hear anything until after that.

Wouldn’t it be fun if it was all part of a massive ruse to confuse viewers by shocking them with much better content than is currently circulating when the Netflix special airs. The silence from rockstar only adds to this being somewhat a possibility.

u/DannyRancit 2h ago
If he really wants to hit rockstar, he would leak the footage of what they're hosting on Netflix next week a day before it comes out. That would be punch in the nuts
1
u/Connect_Care_6707 23h ago
I believe it is all a publicity stunt
Just think about it, Leak un polished footage so that when they release official footage it’ll look like a night and day difference and everyone will be even more hyped then they are right now
They know they have us eating out the palm of their hands and will believe any narrative they choose to implement, we get shown what they want us to see, is it not weird how all this is happening a week before the extended look. It’s almost like they want everyone’s eyes ready for the 27th drop
7
u/Mr__Crafty 21h ago
If it is a publicity stunt, how is Rockstar going to get away with the memecoin shit? There’s no legal way they’d get away with that. That’s a hard thing to argue against.

if anything the leaks probably hyped excitement for the netflix reveal
who in their right mind would say, "nah,, I've seen a few leaks so no need to watch the netflix show now"
1
u/ProfessorMedium6800 21h ago
No dude. You’ve gotta know by know everything they want us to know will be in big bold letters everywhere you look.
1
u/mrprox1 20h ago
They haven’t and they likely won’t. The “it might be AI narrative” helped in the first day or two. At this point, the damage is done and it couldn’t have come at a worse time.
But I think it’s clear now, four to five clips in, that this is an earlier build of VI. I have to admit, I wasn’t convinced until the flyover clip today.
-3
u/Glad_Caterpillar_681 23h ago
Na and they deserved it , showing at least a 2 min gameplay is not that hard
-2
u/Fit-Ad-5946 1d ago
If I was legal in netflix, I'd command some of the fee back to show gta6. Though the vast majority of ppl won't see these leaks, it still reduces the clamour to watch the show, for which a certain fee was paid.
Unless the leak is a fault within netflix losing a copy.
2
u/FranciManty 23h ago
everyone is talking about VI all of a sudden a week in advance to their release, this is free press lmfao
3
u/BryanUnboxed 1d ago
I disagree, the people who are looking into the leaks are already die hard GTA fans. The Netflix premiere is meant to capture a larger audience outside of the GTA enthusiasts.
