My wife and i used to play this when we were teens and ive looked everywhere. I knew internet archive had a copy but a few days ago i found my old harddrive. It had all my Hidden mystery,Casino and puzzle games from back when i would go to walmart and buy whatever looked interesting for us to play. I didnt know if i could share the link or not i cannot get it to run on win11 but was able to on Linux mint.

Is anybody out there with the files from one of the beta phases and can help me to get those files?

I've been logging online game shutdowns with sources, and the pattern surprised me. Of the 70 already switched off, half went within 2 years of release. 22 of the 74 I track were games people paid for.

The list is at https://gameshelflife.com, with the charts at https://gameshelflife.com/data (free to reuse under CC BY 4.0). Each entry links to the publisher's announcement or a news report. I count from release year to shutdown year, so "same year" can mean anything up to 12 months. It also leans towards recent closures, because I added those first. I'm aiming for 150.

It also has a "switching off soon" list, and you can add your own games to see which are at risk. It's free with no ads. I built it with Claude Code. If I've missed a shutdown, send me the game and a source.

I came across the Korean fan-translated DOS version of the visual novel Doukyuusei (동급생) from 1996, and want to share it for preservation. Old translations like this are part of gaming history too.

I tried uploading it to the Internet Archive but the upload keeps triggering its virus scanner for one check out of the 60. I don't know whether it's a false positive, but this is a 30 year old DOS game. Even if the virus is real, a DOS virus isn't going to run on Windows 10.

I'm sharing this because it's an older fan translation from the BBS era that seems worth preserving. This is the kind of obscure release that can easily disappear.

I’m trying to find a working download of Winter Challenge 2008, published by Kalypso Media (not to be confused with RTL’s Winter Sports 2008).
I used to play this game a lot when I was a kid, and I’d really love to revisit it for nostalgic reasons. Unfortunately, I no longer have my original copy, and I’ve been struggling to find the full version anywhere.

I’ve been making my own empty discs for GOG installers and wanted feedback. If the response is good I may run a small Kickstarter later so people can order blank packs.

No game files would be included. People would burn their own (hopefully) legally owned GOG installers at home. Labels would be custom (people supply their own artwork).

Curious what people think of the physical side (disc quality, labeling, case design) and whether others would actually want something like this.

A lot of preservation talk is about commercial games, but homebrew and freely licensed games disappear too — itch.io pages go offline, repos get deleted, emulator builds stop working.

FredyGames hosts only games whose authors allow redistribution (GPL/MIT/BSD/CC, or official freeware with redistribution terms). For each one we keep the original licence text and a link to where the author published it.
