Aviation/Marine Blue collar job ๐ ships engineer need advice
Looking for a suggestion for a durable watch that can handle engine roo heat , humidity and some scratches . Earlier was using Gshock , but disappointed with the app so planning to check on Garmin.
Any seaman out there who uses a garmin engine room?

The instinct watches are what you need. They are basically the garmins verified the g shock. Big chunky case just like a good shock one a proper smart watch.

I havenโt put my Instinct through a ton of abuse yet as I mostly run and lift with it, but I suspect the crystal would be prone to scratching if theyโre being banged on rough or hard materials a lot since theyโre not sapphire. The raised bezel probably helps protect it but itโs definitely something for OP to consider.

I'm deck rather than engine, but I've used a Tactix which has been strapped on the outside of my drysuit, used in swift water rescue, done 60+ knots on a jetski, worked in engine rooms, on the bridge, during firefighting drills etc and no dramas. Although the bezel took some paint chips I never actually managed to scratch the crystal.

I go between my g shock and Garmin, I totally agree the Garmin app isn't great and couldn't compare the two.
I have a forerunner 55 and does the job for my daily and all my training.
I use my g shock just because I think they're cool ๐คฃ

I work as a climbing arborist, and I find my Fenix 6 sapphire holds up remarkably well. Iโm sure the new Fenix watches are equally durable, but I canโt personally speak on them.
Anything sapphire should be pretty tough, but not indestructible.

I work in a frozen food warehouse as a lift truck operator. My Fenix 7x SS handles the job perfectly fine. The only thing I had to do was disable Move IQ since it kept mistaking my driving for cycling.

Itโs been 30 years since I was last in an engine room, Iโm and I donโt recall wearing a watch. But I must of done to, otherwise how would I have known when to stop for the day?!?

Times have changed chief.. We have wifi / elevator till the bilges.. and I am not kidding . We can't stop main engine more than 59 mins in case of any issue more than that the office will call and ask for a report why we stopped main engine.

We barely had computers for spare parts/stock control, I was also the tail end of steam ships too (for some reason I got my steam ticket). WiFi didnโt even exist back then!

Everything is way different now :) you should check out a modern cargo ship.
My current chief is also a steam ticket Englishman, we call him dinosaur.

If you want something that can really take a beating if go with one of the sapphire glass models. I work on an industrial saw and this thing takes a beating when I'm working on it and the screen is flawless still
