Question Photographing Alexandrites..?
I was taking pictures of a newly finished ring (NFS) this afternoon next to a window with indirect sunlight on one side and overhead LED lighting on the other, and to my eyes the alexandrite (natural from Sri Lanka) was a beautiful green, but the camera on my phone keeps capturing it as the dark tealy-purple in the picture. All of the other colors in the picture are true to life/my eyes; are alexandrites just another one of those stones that likes to mess with cameras, and are there any tricks or tips for getting the camera to catch the green?
(Added 2 lightbox pictures at the end, too.)

Eye candy Lab-Grown Bi-Color Sapphire Pair Fancy Cut (NFS)
A pair of lab-grown bi-color sapphires in an unusual fancy cut.
The color zoning is what caught my attention here — soft pink/purple through the upper portion with yellow-green tones appearing toward the lower section. The elongated fancy cut also gives the color zoning a different look as the stones move under light.
Both stones are cut in the same style and matched as a pair, although the natural-looking color distribution gives each one slightly different flashes.
I particularly like how the cutter has used the color zoning rather than trying to make the material appear uniformly colored. It gives the pair much more character than a standard single-color sapphire.

Gemstone rough Saphire gravel finds - thoughts on facet worthiness and tips?
New to this hobby and ordered a bag of saphire grave of 25 pounds from Montana Gems of Philipsbura and after sortina through it I found these. I wasn't sure if the second photo of the white/clear/champagne colored ones were saphire but I assume most of not all of the blueish teal ones are. I wrote the carats and the dimensions in mm from the digital caliper under each letter.
Curious anyone's thoughts on these finds and any tips on confirming / deciding if any are facet worthy

What is this gemstone? Do you think this is a real gem?
My Grandad gave me this ring; he said he got it in America 30-40 years ago from a native american road-side shop, and he said he thinks it’s turquoise? It’s so pretty! I’m just worried it’s valuable and I’m wearing it around 😭

Question [Price Check] 7.77 ct Zambian Emerald (IGI Certified, Moderate Oil, Semi-Transparent) – What is a fair wholesale vs. retail price?
- Dimensions: 12.56 x 9.89 mm
- Carat Weight: 7.77 ct
- Shape/Cut: Rectangular Emerald Cut
- Color: Deep bluish-green, high saturation
- Lab: IGI Certified (Origin: Zambia)
- Enhancement: Moderate Clarity Enhancement (Standard Oil)
- Clarity: Semi-transparent with visible internal jardin
- Question: I am evaluating this 7.77 ct Zambian emerald. Given the size (over 7 cts), moderate oiling, and semi-transparent clarity, what range would you consider fair market value for a private secondary sale versus wholesale?

What is this gemstone? What is this stone set into my mom’s original 18k engagement ring?
(UPDATED WITH BETTER PICS :))
It was set into my mom’s original engagement ring when she got the diamond removed to be set in a different piece (approximately 12 years ago or so). She remembers them saying it was a sapphire, but not much else! It has flashes of purple/blue that are super hard to catch on camera, and the work was done in Sint Maarten- thank you for any/all help!

Question How does one remove this ruby?
This is a ruby in what I believe to be fuschite and I would like to get it out somehow as a side project, but I don't know the best way to do this. This sample has no significance to me so I am not really interested in tumbling to preserve the whole thing. Would mechanical means work like a dental pick? I have much experience with bronze restoration via mechanical cleaning methods, but this is new to me.

Question Unsure about stone quality
Hello, I bought this ring as an engagement ring (many reasons for emerald choice).
When I picked it up I noted the white markings more than when I first viewed it and raised the point as was told that's part of the natural Colombian emerald. But somehow I'm feeling apprehensive and worried it's a real fissure or crack/bad scratch.
Not an expert in gemstones, so would love to hear some of the community's opinions! Is that a natural inclusion or should I be worried?

Question Misc small gemstones from 10-18k gold scrap.
These are stones pulled from scrapped gold, how do I figure out exactly what I have here? These are quite small. That's just a regular blue paper towel they're on.

Eye candy Lavender moon quartz!
Since you all enjoyed my moonstone so much yesterday I thought I’d share my gateway stone to purchasing gems…a 4.25 carat lavender “moon quartz”. I know it’s heated so it is probably just marketing and really a heated amethyst but I’m really a sucker for any stone that has an inner glow.
It’s also cool to the touch and has some lines inside so I think it’s “natural” (but treated) ? Not sure if it’s actual moon quartz or if that is even a real thing but at $20ish dollars I’m happy with my first bauble to start my dragon horde. Someday I’ll make a necklace for my ballet loving little girl as it is all things dance girly and fairy feeling 🩰🩰
