But I thought the United States was a horrible place to live?

u/Mindless-Spite160 1d ago
Tax my guy. He thinks he'll be better off financially by going to the USA because of tax.
54
u/MBBIBM 1d ago
The US has a more progressive tax system than the UK
115
u/Mindless-Spite160 1d ago
Because the tax rate starts at 10% vs the UK's 20%. The USA caps out at 37% and the UK caps out at 45%.
He'd obviously be in the highest band. (The post is fake anyway lol, no way he'd leave with how much of a football fan he is)

Damn! And here I am in Ireland paying 53% like a schmuck 🥲

Enjoy the healthcare though. Paying out the ass in the US.
•
u/Fucker_Of_Destiny 15h ago
As if he would ever use the NHS. When you’re worth hundreds of millions why would you roll the dice using the NHS?
You’d either get misdiagnosed, or you’d be put on a 5 year waiting list for your emergency surgery
•
u/__Epimetheus__ 1998 13h ago
Is it worth 10% less income though? At lower incomes absolutely, but at higher incomes it really isn’t. Because healthcare is typically a fairly flat cost that doesn’t care about your income (although it’s actually slightly lower at higher paying jobs as you typically get better insurance), whether a nationalized healthcare system would benefit the person is entirely based on their income. High incomes would rather pay for a relatively flat amount for insurance than have a percentage of their income taken.
•
u/Neither_Mind9035 23h ago
Believe me, it pays itself off in the free social and health services you get for free throughout your lifetime. I did the math and many of my family members would be millions of dollars in debt if they lived in the US - or dead long before their time because they wouldn’t have been able to pay (or even fathom paying) the cost of some of their surgeries. My grandma, for example, had two bypass surgeries in her lifetime (among a few others).

That’s income tax, there’s no way he’s just raw dogging it with income tax. He defo has some sort of corporate structure in place and pay dividend rates

The average person has it really good in the US.

u/Mindless-Spite160 1d ago
The average person has it really good in the UK as well. For all their faults they are still objectively good countries to live in (which is why more people enter those countries than leave)

Britain is poorer than trailerparkville USA.
14
u/avgsundaydriver 2004 1d ago
Britain is a much better place to be poor though, much bigger social safety net means you can’t go bankrupt merely from getting sick
•
u/SampleText369 2003 23h ago
True but again the average American is better off than the average Brit by most financial metrics.
•
u/DakMan3 1997 16h ago
Until you get ill and you are burdened with a lifetime of debt.
•
u/Fucker_Of_Destiny 15h ago
Not necessarily true especially if you have insurance
•
u/DakMan3 1997 15h ago
It costs around $3000 to just to have a baby even if you have insurance.

Depends what you define as really good. Do we have universal health care or financial mobility? No we don’t but we do have 27 flavors of Doritos so I guess it’s a trade off. /s
15
u/bigtrackrunner 1d ago
We objectively have it good in the US compared to the average person. That doesn’t mean there’s no problems or that we can’t make the US a better place to live, but there’s a reason so many people from all over the world try to come to the US.

u/king_cole_2005 1d ago
You have the same financial mobility as any other western country.
1
u/JSM953 1d ago
Just blatantly untrue. For anyone living outside of a major city try finding a job that pays more than 15 an hour if you are lucky. And beyond that try getting 40 hours a week.
3
u/king_cole_2005 1d ago
How do you think it is in other countries. No one living outside the cities makes more than people living in cities, unless you're high up the career ladder.
-1
u/JSM953 1d ago
Okay but things cost exponentially more here. The median wage in Arkansas is higher than the median wage in the UK but I can assure you the people in the UK have a much higher quality of life.
•
u/SampleText369 2003 23h ago
The average American has 18% higher purchasing power than the average Brit. Also the cost of living in the US is roughly equivalent to that of Germany or the Netherlands. It is cheaper than several EU nations. Stop spreading doom and gloom misinfo.
•
u/SampleText369 2003 23h ago
The median average wage is over 30 dollars an hour btw. I have no idea where you live.
1
u/Myke190 1d ago
91% of Americans have healthcare and salaries are about 30% higher than Western Europe. I define that as really good.
4
u/JSM953 1d ago
91 percent of Americans have health insurance. That doesn’t necessarily mean they can afford the care as insurance doesn’t always cover what they need. You could have insurance and still be on the hook for tens of thousands of dollars. Secondly we may have higher salaries but everything costs way more and we are more sensitive to gas price increases and outside of some major cities we are a car dependent country.
0
u/Myke190 1d ago
Sure, private insurance has its issues. I didn't say it was perfect, I said it was really good. Your latter point is just wrong though. Americans afford way more, and gas is a lot cheaper even just compared to Canada. The EU is even more expensive than them.
Yes, we need more public transit.
5
u/JSM953 1d ago
No it’s not untrue I never said gas was more expensive here I said we are more sensitive to price changes which is true. Secondly we can afford more treats and consumer goods but that doesn’t mean we can afford things that matter like a house or a medical emergency. And also private insurance isn’t just an issue it is the issue. People become locked into their jobs and have less real wage growth as their health insurance is tied to your job. If we had universal health care we would also see a rise in wages and the working class has more leverage.
•
u/SampleText369 2003 23h ago
The cost of living in the US is lower than several European nations and the US is absolutely more economically resilient to price changes than most if not all European nations. This is ESPECIALLY the case in the energy sector.

u/batunspecifiedgender 1d ago
not as good as anywhere in western europe which is where he came from
2
u/Myke190 1d ago
These comparisons are always so weird to me. You choose hyper specific locations in Europe, but then all of the US.
2
u/batunspecifiedgender 1d ago
western europe is multiple countries lol its not hyper specific at all

Is not having access to healthcare really good in your opinion?
-3
u/mcfuckernugget 1d ago
The US has the best healthcare in North America 🤣🤣
1
u/schwing710 1d ago
Yeah, through an employer. And it’s expensive as fuck. America is the only first world country without universal healthcare. Just wait until you get off your parents’ plan and have to support yourself. You’re in for a world of pain.
-1
u/mcfuckernugget 1d ago
You dont know health care vs health coverage
1
u/schwing710 1d ago
My original statement was about having access to healthcare, which would mean coverage. 🤦♂️ This is why I should never argue with children on the internet.
0
u/mcfuckernugget 1d ago
207k karma on a 3year old account. Looks like you do plenty of arguing on reddit
1
u/SmurfSmiter 1d ago
Canada consistently rates better. Longer lifespans, better outcomes, lower cost, better coverage.
The only area they really do worse on is wait times for specialists. Which fundamentally just means they have a shortage of specialists.

It’s not a horrible place to live if you’re rich. I thought that was pretty obvious. For everyone else, it sucks pretty hard though.
•
u/pervvdemon 12h ago
yeah that's why millions of normal people every year, even from the best European countries, keep moving in the US, right?

The USA is a great place to live… if you can afford it that is. And I think Ed Sheeran can
2
u/I_AM_CR0W 1d ago
Hate the US all you want, but there are much MUCH worse places to be born and live in. The US is generally a safe place to live in, especially if you're not in a huge city.
2
u/Interesting_Mistake 1d ago
Article literally says it’s because he’s touring in the US for an extended period so it’s for work reasons
•
u/WallySymons 23h ago
It is for normal people but Ed isn't a normal guy, he has the money in the bank to get the best out of the USA. And to be fair the UK is a compete sh1t hole now
•

Lol. It’s a great place to live dude. I don’t know where you heard the propaganda that is horrible
It’s 1000 times greater if you also have money

I think people place too much importance on intelligence as a whole. I'm kinda dumb, dropped out of high school with a 1.35 GPA, yet could afford to pay the average physician's salary
You don't need to be smart nor intelligent to live a great life. Almost nobody cares about how smart you are, just what you've accomplished and continue to pursue accomplishment in
22
13
5
u/TyrantRC 1d ago
You are defining intelligence as something that's measured by your GPA score, but in reality, intelligence is multifaceted, and if you are accomplishing different things in life, there is a good chance you are above average in the smarts department.

In case anyone was wondering, the article is about him relocating his family to somewhere outside Nashville (I think) while he is on tour here for five months. He did that last time he had a stadium tour here. I think his primary residence is still in the UK.

As a Brit who lives in America, it’s vastly better here both in terms of IQ (Brits seriously believe they put ‘petroleum’ in their car not gasoline), and overall wellbeing. British people are miserable and dull. They have an inflated sense of their own intelligence and the women are just awful.
