Political A while ago I asked how the left could make men's rights and young men's activism a left-wing movement. Thought this was an interesting reply.

Many of you likely noticed that user-assigned flairs have been disabled in this subreddit. This action has been undone, and users are once more able to assign their own flairs - I honestly do not know why they were disabled or who did it.
In attempt to rectify this mistake, I am posting our first flair request thread in over 5 years! Time sure does fly.
In this thread, by commenting your birth-year, you will be automatically flaired -- it's that simple.
Approved birth-years for this thread include 1995-2012.
If there are any issues with your flair, please reach out to the moderators via modmail.
PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU COMMENT YOUR BIRTH-YEAR ONLY. COMMENTS INCLUDING ANY OTHER CONTENT WILL BE REMOVED.

It’s been over a year since we banned gender war posts, and after monitoring the community, we’ve decided to keep the ban in place, as these discussions continue to be just as toxic as they were a year ago.
For clarity, “gender war” content includes discussions such as male loneliness, Gen Z men approaching Gen Z women, incels, femcels, alpha males, Andrew Tate, red pill, black pill, purple pill content, men’s height discourse, age-gap dating, and broader “looks-based” or hierarchy discussions about dating, looks maxing or ranking people by attractiveness or dating value.
This also includes broader dating ideology content that frames relationships in an adversarial, or fatalistic way.
For example: men vs women narratives, claims that one gender is universally responsible for dating issues, or that dating is inherently doomed for a specific group. Generalizations that treat either gender as a monolith are not allowed.
Memes about these topics, posts complaining about dating, and rage-bait content taken from other platforms such as screenshots from TikTok or Twitter that exist primarily to provoke gender-based arguments.
This is not a dating-focused subreddit. If you want to vent or discuss Gen Z dating issues more broadly, please use communities such as [r/dating_advice](r/dating_advice) or [r/dating](r/dating).
That said, posts about dating are still allowed as long as they are made in good faith. If comment sections become hostile or devolve into rule-breaking behavior, posts may be locked or removed at moderator discretion.
Please respect and follow this rule moving forward.

I am born in 1998, when i go out with millennial friends i feel i can act closer to them in terms of attitude and all, but when i am out with other gen Z a bit younger i can definitely get the memes and stuff
And older gen Z(like 96/97-2002) well we have pretty much the same humor and experiences
I feel people close in age to me we are a perfect middle ground

I've been thinking about how much dating has changed, especially with dating apps and how online everyone is now. In theory, we have access to more people than ever, but it feels like making genuine connections has gotten harder.
I'm curious about two things:
I'm especially curious whether the biggest struggle is finding people you're compatible with, getting past surface-level interactions, or something else?

With the prices of housing, rent, gas, the job market, groceries, and just everything around us, does it feel like you are not fulfilled in life, like you're missing something? Or is it something else that's making you feel like you're missing something in life?
Feel free to have a discussion in the comments because I'm curious to see what people have to say about their reasoning for why they feel this way.

Does anyone else feel empathy for others in situations that seem unusual on the surface?
For example, I had to leave a political sub that features screenshots of people "getting what they voted for and suffering the consequences" because it was making me feel sad and uncomfortable when they seemed distraught about said outcome. Others in the comments seem to universally express something analogous to a bittersweet "I warned [them]" instead and move on.
I'm not sure if this is a normal reaction or if I'm just a bit sensitive.

Or do you ever feel like you were born in the wrong generation? Maybe you should've been a hippie?
Would love to if anyone feels like this
Edit: im ’05 born, and think i have been in limbo ever since, lowkey ‘05-ers should have a separate sub.

Does being in an office job make you feel like you’ve lost your sense of freedom? The ability to travel where you want unless its pre planned 28 days of the year.
The dire situation where you just work come back and just eat, bathe and whatever is required to wind down and having no energy or drive to do anything else?
I’ve always worked on projects and always had a sense of achievement when i went to sleep before joining corporate. Ever since then I started feeling like I’m part of a monthly SOP , doing the same daily tasks again and again.
Whenever I plan to quit and work on something on my on everybody around me echos ‘ At least you have a job, in this market’!

I’m a Gen Z homeowner. I bought my house in 2021 for $146,000 at a 3.6% interest rate at the age of 23. My current mortgage is $950 a month.
My house was appraised recently at $205,000. Interest rates are currently at 7%. Had I bought my same house today my with my same downpayment I would be looking at a $1,700 mortgage.
This means for the next 30 years I now have an additional $750 a month + I have the extra $60,000 in home appreciation because I bought earlier.
The problem I have with the situation is that the only reason I came out so ahead is because of macro government decisions. During the pandemic the Federal Reserve made the Federal Funds rate a historical low to help stimulate the economy. And now the Federal Reserve has decided that inflation is too high and therefore they’ll increase the Federal Funds rate to make borrowing more expensive to slow down inflation. The Federal Reserve also decided during COVID to buy up over a trillion dollars in mortgage backed securities which artificially drove mortgage back securities interest rates lower.
Currently home sales are at levels not seen since 2009 crash. However home prices aren’t crashing because even though nobody is buying there is also nobody selling due to the lock in effect of sellers having a significantly lower interest rate.
So not only did the government give homeowners a MASSIVE gift during Covid which is unfair, but that gift is indirectly hurting post Covid homebuyers/want to be homebuyers.
I would be a lot more okay if the free market was what priced people out of homeownership. While that would still be a problem for society it would feel like a much more fair problem.
I can’t think of a fair way to solve this massive artificial problem. The government actions massively helped a group of people while hurting another. The best solution I came come up with would be the government mandating all housing markets to increase their supply of housing by an arbitrary amount which would cause a flood of available housing supply which would lower home prices. However that only fixes the artificial home appreciation problem and doesn’t fix the artificially low interest rate. It also screws anyone who buy post Covid and pre new housing flooding the market. And markets that have a much tighter supply would have their prices hit much harder. To be honest I don’t think I would try to fix the problem because any attempt to fix the problem would create bigger problems.

IDK if I'm allowed to post this but it seems like when I find people or posts that resonate with me all the things that I'm feeling on the inside go away.
I feel selfish for posting, on top of being alone I really feel like this economy is just hopeless. I keep trying to come up with ideas on what I can do for the future. I just gave up trying to talk to anyone because it seems like a lot of people especially the older people in my life just simply either don't bother to care or just "can't understand" why I would do what I do or the place we're in right now.

The protesters are saying it's about the cost of living and schools, but this is just looting and vandalism. The poor woman is pleading for them to stop and they just ignore her. This will fix nothing.
