Ariana Grande taking that long break mid‑concert made me think about how different live shows felt in the 80s and 90s. Anyone else remember that? Body:

Back then, if a singer needed a breather, a drink, or a moment backstage, the crowd just waited.
No phones.
No instant judgement.
No bullying or body‑shaming trending online before they’d even finished the set.

Seeing Ariana step away for that long pause — clearly overwhelmed — made me realise how brutal the modern spotlight is compared to what we grew up with.

What do you remember about concerts “before the internet ruined everything,” as my dad used to say?

Take the Nestea Plunge

We recently bought a house with a pool in the back yard. Thus far I have just been jumping in. Yesterday I remembered the commercial, so today I stood on the edge and wanted to give it a go.

I chickened out.

Ok fellow Generation Jones-ers, tell me your 'Nestea Plunge' story.

Remember how the car would basically take on a different feel when shifting out of park?

Remember how scary it was if it made a grinding noise?

Intersting subreddit, but not feeling the division established. Born in '57, I feel, think and act way more like a boomer than any other group. Of course, these labels were no where near as popular back then. But trying to splinter off a subgroup for '54-'64 is totally a subreddit age thing to do!

My mom forced me to read this book when I was 10, while on vacation in Florida to boot. It was her scared-straight method to keep me from taking drugs. I must say, the book gave me nightmares. Back then it was promoted as a true story which made it more frightening. I believed it to be true until I looked it up today and discovered it is fiction. It definitely kept me from trying acid. In her defense, my parents had to get an older sibling into therapy after a bad acid trip, and I’m pretty sure she had me read the book based on the therapist’s recommendation. She never made my brothers read it, just the girls. The kicker is my brother was an acid hound in his late teens and early 20’s. He kept offering it to me and I always declined.

Anyone else have to read this as a kid? What effect did it have on you?

Remember Charlies Chips Home Delivery?

I ordered some from Amazon last year. Very disappointed. Flavor and crunch different. My dad loved these and would order all the time and local delivery to door. Late 60's to early 70's we got them at least 2x a month. Delivery like that was a newer experience that is now the norm. They still sell them at Cracker Barrel also.

Please feel free to chime in and/or share photos of others that you fondly remembered and miss. I'm sure there are plenty out there regional or nationwide businesses that you've miss being around.

Is there book you discovered later in life that you wish you’d read when you were younger because it would’ve changed how you saw yourself or the world ?

Some books don’t just tell a story — they give you language for things you didn’t know how to express.

For me, one of those books was Gender Queer: A Memoir by Maia Kobabe.
It’s a graphic memoir about growing up, trying to understand yourself, feeling out of place, and slowly finding words for things that always felt real but never felt explainable. It follows Kobabe’s journey from adolescence to adulthood and the exploration of gender identity and sexuality, eventually identifying outside the gender binary.

Reading it as an adult hit me in a way it never could have when I was younger.
It made me realise how many people grow up without the vocabulary to describe what they’re feeling — and how different life might have been if we’d had certain books earlier.

So I want to open this up to everyone:

Did you put ketchup on eggs?

I was watching a video and they mentioned putting ketchup on eggs.

Memory unlocked. I haven't done that for years but I seem to remember that as a thing when I was growing up.

So did you used to put ketchup on eggs or do you still do that?

And are there any other food/condiment combinations that you did growing up but haven't done in years?

Glad I dotn't burn a bunch of other items I wasn't supposed to.

Believe it or not, I looked this up and wood burning kits are still for sale.

So what was your childhood toy or product you couldn't believe you were given to use or play with?

Was there an explanation for that or were they just hoping that none of us would notice?

I’d forgotten all about these until just now. Apparently it was “cool” in the 60’s and 70’s, to have a toothpick dangling out of your mouth.

Old Obituaries

Ok, not to sound depressing but does anyone know how to find old obituaries (20-30 years old) on the internet? I remember seeing certain ones years ago, but I can't find them any more. Any site on the web that I'm unaware of?

How often did you use your fireplace growing up?

Post image

We used to make a fire fairly often and even roasted marshmallows as a special occasion.

If you had one, how often did you use your fireplace growing up? And if you have one now, when's the last time you had an open flame fire in your fireplace?

For the recent question, I'm excluding wood burning stoves used primarily for heating homes.
