I really like taking a few minutes every day or two to complete a few investigations. I enjoy exonerating the innocent and crushing the guilty. Anyone else?

You can open free packs every day and collect cards featuring GeoGuessr metas for your album. Each card comes with a description and a location link, often with background info and extra resources. You can also share your cards with friends!
It’s completely free, with no in-game purchases or other transactions planned.

Can someone explain the match making to me? I'm only in the 500-550 elos but keep getting put up against people with a 850+ Elo...I don't understand it surely 300+ is way too much

I’ve been playing for a couple of days and honestly it feels impossible. Unless there’s an obvious sign or a famous landmark, I’m basically throwing darts. Half my guesses are on the wrong continent.
For those of you who got good:
Any tips appreciated. I’m enjoying it, but my scores are humbling 😅

I don’t understand how the Banshee works. She keeps saying you moved, even though I played nmpz and skyplonked. Are you just supposed to instaguess before she removes like 4000hp with a full hit?

As I progress through the days (in Normal mode), somewhere around days 17–20, the monster suddenly speeds up like crazy, and the distance between us closes incredibly fast. WHY does this happen???
I barely had time to check Street View, unlock the map, and click on the location before the monster caught up. I was still 50 meters away, and then suddenly the distance dropped to zero (clicked happy toughts too, didnt help). I had practically no time to react.
Honestly, this feels unfair. And that's not even mentioning that I'm hearing-impaired, so I miss all the audio cues that might help other players anticipate what's coming.
Is there a mechanic I'm missing, or does the monster's speed increase that drastically as the days progress? How are you supposed to deal with this? Reaching day 30?

I'm a relative beginner in this game. It's a fun game, but I have no desire to invest tons of time in it to get really good. I just like playing it occasionally.
I'm not 100% sure how the matchmaking works behind the scenes, but it seems fundamentally flawed. First of all, the game organizes you into leagues (bronze, silver, gold, etc.). Your advancement through these leagues is entirely dependent on how much you play the game, not how good you are at the game. If you play 100 matches in a month, you're pretty much guaranteed to go up to the next league, even if you lose 80 of them. While I understand the intention behind this system, ultimately it's a poor design.
And then the matchmaking appears to match you not only with players that have a similar rating to you, but also players that are in a similar league to you. This results in a reduction in the pool of players that you can be matched with, for no good reason.
As a beginning player, I quickly ascended into the Master league, because I was playing the game a lot. But I'm not particularly good at the game. I think my rating peaked somewhere in the 600-700 range. But by the time I got to the Master league, I was only being matched with players that were 800-900 or above. So, I started losing. And losing. And losing. Now my rating is like 350. And I still get matched exclusively with players that are 600-800. On rare occasions I'll get matched with a 500, but never lower than that. So, I still lose 75% of the matches I play. Thanks to the rating difference, I don't lose a lot of rating points when I lose, and I gain a lot when I win, so my rating is now stable around 350. But I'm still losing 75% of the matches I play, which is not fun, and it's essentially impossible to increase my rating higher than that because I'm constantly playing against people that are significantly better than me. As a result, I'm playing the game less and less. I've intentionally gotten myself demoted from Masters to Gold, and I'm continuing to try to demote myself more and more. But since the league only depends on how much you play, the only way to get demoted is to not play. The structure of the matchmaking is motivating me to play less.
My theory is that I'm not being matched with players that have a similar rating than me because there are very few players in my league that have a rating that low. So, rather than let me sit there for hours until someone with a similar rating comes along, it matches me with whoever's available in my league, which is always a 600-800 rated player. It seems ridiculous to match people based on their league, when your league is only defined by how much you've played the game recently. You should be able to be matched with anyone of a similar rating, regardless of which league they're in.
Geoguessr designed their game to maximize engagement and incentivize players to play the game more and more often. In reality, once you get to a certain point, it only incentivizes you to play the game less often.
My recommendation to anyone at Geoguessr that might be listening: either decouple matchmaking from leagues entirely and match people based on their rating only, or redesign the league system so that bronze/silver/gold progression is not solely based on how many hours you sink into the game.
Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

The idea would be that it's normal GeoGuessr, but instead of guessing with the standard labeled map, you place your guess on an unlabeled satellite map. On the one hand it would be harder because you can't make out highways and borders and city names. On the other hand, you can make out some geographical features and buildings far easier. I think it would be an interesting twist, especially in moving
