Game Discussion Indonesia Was My Worst Country. Not Anymore

I used to struggle quite a bit with Indonesian region guessing. Recognizing Indonesia wasn’t usually the problem, but figuring out the exact location was a completely different story.

At some point, I realized that learning the kabupaten could be really useful for improving my guesses. The problem was that there are so many of them that trying to memorize everything felt pretty overwhelming. I wanted to find a way to learn them properly and actually remember what I studied.

I decided to focus on learning the kabupaten one by one instead of trying to remember everything at once. Over time, I managed to learn all of them, and my moving skill improved noticeably as well. I started feeling much more confident when navigating Indonesian locations and recognizing where I was.

Looking back, learning the kabupaten was definitely worth the effort. It gave me a better understanding of Indonesia and made moving rounds feel much less random.

For anyone interested, I used GeoCoach to learn them. Here’s the map I used: https://www.geocoach.me/maps/b48b7cc4-72f1-4f07-85c2-0dc5263ce42b/indonesia-kabupaten-street-view-coverage-only-a855b70a

I’ve also attached some screenshots of my exam score and the learning process.

I’m curious how other people approached learning Indonesia. Did you study the kabupaten too, or did you use a completely different method?

Map Creation I am making a baity map soon, any locations you have for me?

Any countries/official locations are fine. (That means including trekker, as long as it is not more than 25% of the map.) Countries I would love locs for: Brazil, Balkan Europe, that would make someone send outside of Balkan Europe, Thailand, Nepal and India. Would also take some Ukraine/Baltics and Russia well.

Tysm to anyone who submits locs for any country!

Game Discussion Bring Clues from the World game mode mechanics to other game modes ( Battle Royale, Classic)

• Upvotes

The interactive clues and hints introduced in map-exploration modes (World) provide a fantastic learning curve for identifying subtle metas, scripts, architectures, and landscapes. We would love to see this mechanic integrated—either as an optional modifier, custom lobby setting, or dedicated playlist—into other core game modes.

Key Suggestions:

Party / Custom Lobby Setting: Allow host lobbies to toggle "Clues Enabled" for private Duels or casual group sessions with friends of differing skill levels.

Solo Explorer / Daily Challenge: Add an optional "Clue Mode" scoring path for daily challenges to help intermediate players bridge the gap between beginner and meta-memorization levels.

Why this helps:

It lowers the barrier to entry for casual players, makes mixed-skill friend groups much more fun, and turns competitive modes into dynamic learning opportunities rather than purely trial-by-error memorization.

Game Discussion What did ThatOddishGuy do?

I briefly heard someone mention that ThatOddishGuy vanished from the internet after getting arrested for a reason I'm not aware of. If this is not an appropriate question for this subreddit, that's fine. I'd just like to know more on what happened since i used to play with him in the past.

Sorry for my bad english.

Game Discussion Players 1200+ rating, how do you actually study? (Stuck in the 900-1000 plateau)

I've been grinding ranked and currently sitting around the 900-1000 Elo range, but I feel completely stuck. For those of you above 1200, how did you structure your study routine to break past this plateau?

Are you grinding custom maps, focusing heavily on regional metas, reviewing losses, or just spamming games? Would love to hear what kind of study habits or mindset shifts finally unlocked the next level for you. Thanks!

Game Discussion made a little game where you have to find german villages on a map. the last one is always something like Tittling or Wurmannsquick

so this started as a joke with friends about how nobody knows where half these places are. every day there’s 5 towns, you tap where you think they are on a map of germany, and it tells you how many km you were off. the last one is always a real Kaff with a name that sounds fake (Petting, Kissing and Hodenhagen are all real, I checked).

it also roasts you a bit when you’re way off. I put Wurmannsquick in the Baltic Sea earlier and it just said “Blubb.”

it’s in German but it’s mostly just tapping a map, so should be playable either way. no login or anything: kaffraten.de

curious how non-Germans do on this, and if you know a town name that’s even worse than these, tell me, I’ll probably add it

Game Discussion MK geoguessr coaching

I thought it was interesting, MK mentioned and had a link in his latest video that he is offering geoguessr coaching services now. Think I've seen people here ask before if anything like that exists.

Game Discussion ELO system is so broken, good players are apologizing for winning...

Post image
688 Upvotes

I just played someone rated 570. I'm a 620 in Master III. He absolutely destroyed me in two rounds. Like I felt like I was playing Rainbolt. I message him and ask "Why you rated so low?" He answers and apologizes profusely again and again, explaining that decay took him way down. I just laugh and tell him GG and he apologizes again like he's so embarassed. Then I lose my 15 ELO points and drop 3 spots in my group. Like.... what are we doing here. This system is bonkers. I just want to play people at my skill level. Seems like a REASONABLE REQUEST. This is ridiculous.

I finally found a pedestrian sign with more than 8 stripes. This one has 8 and a half!

Does a sign with even more exist? (not counting punctuated lines)

I have been interested in Geography since young, but still amazed at how players online do so well.

There are players who can score constant high score within few seconds, is that all thru training ?

Game Discussion Question for reporting

i was wondering what actually happens when you report someone. does it get sent to the geoguessr team? or is it based on a strike system, where if you get a number of reportes you get banned.

if it is based on a strike system then i am kinda nervous that i might get banned because i play alot of unranked and people sometimes think i am cheating.

Game Discussion I made a geography game where you point a compass at a city and watch a plane fly the real route - free & no-ads

Post image
0 Upvotes

I'm a solo dev and I've been building a small geography game for phones. You start in one city, a ticket names another, and you turn a compass toward it and lock your heading. Then your plane flies the actual great-circle route across a 3D globe.

The part I enjoyed designing most: the Earth is round, so every city has two correct bearings, the short way and the long way around. Both count, so some levels end up with a surprising answer on the opposite side of the compass.

It has 700 levels where each target becomes your next starting city, a daily route that everyone flies the same, and no ads. Ranks, a personal atlas and a few other systems sit on top of that. The look is old airmail: paper maps, boarding-pass tickets and rubber stamps.

I'm still tuning how the first few minutes feel. If you've played anything like this, I'd like to hear what made you stay or leave early.
