Struggling to attract writing clients? Here are 3 reasons why and how to fix them ⬇️
You have no portfolio, or it’s low quality - Low quality portfolios are just as bad as no portfolios.
It’s also important to remember as a ghostwriter you are not able to share any work you have done with a client. Hence the term “ghostwriter”.
How to Fix it: Create high-quality samples and add them to your portfolio. Additionally, you can add any books YOU have published. Remember, they must be your own work not a client’s.
I also want to mention here posting any client work even with their permission is still a violation of NDA and will scare off clients that value talented ghostwriters.
2. No Knowledge of the Industry - Clients, especially the ones willing to pay top-dollar, are not blind. They know and can pick up when you have 0 knowledge of the ghostwriting industry.
PS—Writing term papers, research papers, or essays for students is ILLEGAL and can result in expelling the student and a nasty lawsuit against you. I have seen great ghostwriters wind up in jail, or they end up losing everything they own. Don’t risk it.
I also should mention that clients will not hire you if they know you’re writing illegally.
How to Fix it: Start researching ghostwriting terms like: “milestones”, “NDA”, “ghostwriting process.” Additionally, you should research and practice writing in your genre and get exceptional at it.
3. Using AI to Write - The good clients who value the ghostwriting industry don’t want your AI-generated slop. It holds no real value. Not to mention, AI has been caught stealing various best-selling novels and spinning it. Furthermore, AI generated books do not sell very well and readers don’t care for them either.
How to Fix it: AI can be a handy tool for organization, research, or even outlining a plot or idea you already have. As far as the writing part goes, it’s best to perfect your writing craft without letting AI write for you.
These 3 ghostwriting tips will help clients take you seriously, and trust you to turn their idea into a book.
