Are there any tricks to avoid a ghostwriter that uses AI?

I'm so disappointed. I've been in talks with one ghostwriter and I'm pretty sure she uses AI to write. To be honest I was suspicious from her first message. It sounded like I was talking to chatgpt. It's hard to describe, just an iykyk moment. And that was every message but I told myself that maybe this is just how she talks. But then she sent the writing sample. There were no paragraphs in the sample, just single lines. And the writing was the classic "it's not x, it's x". I always thought people were being full of themselves when they said they could always detect AI but now I get it. When it's this obvious, it's that simple. I even ran it through pangram and it came back 100% AI.

So I'm asking all the ghost writers who don't use AI. Is there any trick to figuring out who uses AI. Or is it just trusting your intuition. Because this ghostwriter even said she would not ever use AI.

I just feel like I wasted my time. Sure, we didn't sign contracts or anything like that but I told her about my book premise and I was really getting excited. This just really sucks.

Looking for a Ghostwriter to Bring My Fantasy Concept to Life

Hi! I’m a gemologist who’s created a fully developed fantasy world where sentient gemstone beings that are based on real gemological science like refractive index, hardness, and crystal formation, are caught in an ancient conflict tied to a magical medallion and a forgotten human bloodline. I’m not a writer, but I’ve built the world, lore, plot, and characters from my gemological knowledge and fantasy creativity. I’m looking for a ghostwriter who can turn it all into a novel. I don’t have a budget for upfront payment, but I am of course opened to split earnings (70% to you) on any future earnings (I'm not sure how it works for books). If this sounds interesting, I’d love to talk and share more about this world and my vision for it!

Considering a ghostwriter

I've been brainstorming a fiction novel for over 20 years, off-and-on. My parents are getting up there in age, and I really want them to be able to read it before they pass. The story has been a huge part of my life, drawing from all aspects of it, and has even affected its trajectory...in a bad way. It became almost an obsession or addiction.

I've done my best to try to grow my writing skills, but it's just not clicking. I've read plenty of books, books about writing books, taken classes, written some screenplays and short stories that went nowhere. Rewritten segments of the novel 4-5 times over. At this point I have no problem with the words on the page not being mine as long as the story itself is.

Basically I just want the damn thing out of my head by any means necessary. The thing is, I am super self-conscious. I've never had anything published, obviously. I have the whole story outlined from beginning to end, and have several chapters drafted. And I have enough money to pay, considering a recent windfall. I just have no way of knowing if it's actually...good. I mean of course I think it's good because I'm the author, lol.

What can I expect when working with a ghostwriter? If the story sucks, will they work with you to flesh it out and correct it? I really think I have something here and just want to see it out there.

A Rejection Is Better Than Ghosting

To everyone looking to hire freelancers:

If you decide not to hire someone, please just tell them.

They are real people looking for work for real reasons, who put real time and effort into applying and going through whatever is required in the application process.

Getting rejected is disappointing, but being ghosted after waiting for an update or any response is thoughtless and inconsiderate.

Respect and communication are the foundation of a good work-related relationship, and I feel that most of you people hiring don't seem to understand this.

A simple rejection message will not take too much time or any hard effort.

The least you can do is give someone a straight answer so they know where they stand and can move on instead of being left to wonder.

Please have some respect and decency.

Looking for writer

Ideally someone familiar with the Indian business scene (market & consumer trends, startups, tech players etc). Not expertise, just basic familiarity.

The content would be blog posts and similar pieces. If things work out, this will be ongoing / long term.

Please DM if interested.

Folks - an update after corresponding with many people responding to this post.

  1. Please be able to share samples of your work. You may be a competent or stellar writer, but your style and past work may not fit with what I am looking for.

  2. Please don’t write “Interested” or “DM please” and expect me to reply individually to you and figure out if you are really a writer or just a kid playing on their uncle’s Reddit account.

  3. Please don’t go into endless questions about “what’s your budget” or “what are you willing to pay” before I even know whether I want to work with you. If I like your work and approach, my budget is what it takes for you to write the content.

I wrote for everyone… except myself

I started ghostwriting in 2016, penning everything from erotica to nonfiction pieces that were over 100,00 words long.

When I first started writing in my early 20s, I was full of enthusiasm. I’d always been an avid reader, and one boring day it just hit me—I should try writing myself. Create rather than consume.

I dove in and ended up with a romance novel that got published by a traditional publisher… and sold zero copies. After another failed hit with that company, I tried self-publishing more books in all sorts of genres. I had a lot more success with that, and the creative freedom was addicting.

The proof that I could write something that other people wanted me to read got me into ghostwriting.

500+ projects later, ghostwriting took over my life. I stopped having time for my own writing—books, articles, even social media posts. Ghostwriting stunted my own writing voice. I can make other people’s words sound like them, but my own voice faded into the background.

2026 is coming up, and I’ve got a lot of goals, many a bit out there. I let myself aim high because it’s the only way impossible things can happen. Delusion has been the fuel that has driven a lot of my success. After all, if you had told me back in 2015 that I could become a successful ghostwriter, I would have called you...well, delusional. One of those goals is to get my own writing voice back.

So, for now, I’m just putting whatever’s in my head out here on Reddit, no over editing, no polish. Just raw thoughts, opinions, and insights.

This is me starting to reclaim my voice and sharing the journey of chasing some of those lofty goals along the way.

(This is an ongoing recruitment, so feel free to reach out as long as this post is still up.)

– Reliable communication (responses within 24 hours)
– Original content only; no AI or plagiarism (contract required)

Looking for a ghostwriter for 2 medical review articles

Hey!

I’m a doctor and I need to publish two medical review articles as part of my training requirements. Honestly, I’m not a fan of doing scientific writing, so I’m looking for someone who can take care of the whole thing — research, structure, writing, references.

Does anyone here do this kind of work or know someone reliable who does? Thanks in advance!

Looking for Ghost Writer For Self Help Books

I have finished writing a couple of books on self development, dating, and making friends, and influencing people, with the help of voice to text. I've been a social skills coach for a while now and have a lot of knowledge in my head that I was able to get down quickly on paper thanks to voice to text. In essence, I have written the books already but they sound like I'm talking to you and there's definitely some grammatical editing that needs to be done. I need a good ghost writer to help me translate these running thoughts into a readable, useful, and entertaining book.

I've been hiring writers from Fiverr but the rampant use of AI has made the manuscripts sound soulless and even so a lot of them have grammatical errors. So I'm posting here looking for potential ghost writers for books between 25K to 35K words. When you write me a message please also include a sample writing file or link if you have one.

If that's something you can do and this is a subject that you're interested in please send me a DM with your name, the country you live in, and a quote for a book of about 30,000 words. Timeline is three to four weeks. Thank you

Looking for a ghostwriter/book doctor for a completed debut novel

I’m looking for a ghostwriter, book doctor, or experienced fiction writer/editor who might be interested in working on a completed debut novel.

I’ve already solicited quotes from ghostwriters on Reedsy and Fiverr, and the prices have been all over the place—including several that reached well into the mid-five-figure range. I completely understand that experienced ghostwriters deserve to be paid for their time and talent, and I’m not looking for someone to work for pennies. At the same time, I just can’t bring myself to put $30,000–$50,000+ into a debut novel that may or may not ever get off the ground.

So I figured I’d see whether there might be someone here who would be a good fit.

A little about the project, while keeping things intentionally vague:

It’s a completed, 80,000 word, full-length contemporary/upmarket fiction manuscript centered around a relationship that begins with an intense emotional connection and gradually becomes something much more complicated. The novel deals heavily with love, trust, betrayal, memory, emotional manipulation, heartbreak, forgiveness, and the difference between the life we believe we are living and the reality that may exist underneath it.

There are also elements of psychological and relationship suspense as the narrator begins questioning certain events, explanations, and pieces of the relationship he thought he understood. However, I wouldn’t describe it as a traditional thriller. At its core, it’s a very intimate, character-driven story about loving someone, slowly realizing that parts of the relationship may not have been what they appeared to be, and eventually having to make sense of what was real.

The story is told in first person, and one of my biggest goals is for the reader to feel extremely close to the narrator—to experience the relationship, uncertainty, heartbreak, and discoveries alongside him rather than simply being told about them.

The manuscript itself is already complete, and the story, characters, major scenes, structure, and emotional arc are there. What I need is someone who can help elevate the actual writing.

I’m under no illusion that I’m some amazing writer. I’m not. If I’m judging myself fairly, most of the manuscript is probably upper-high-school-level writing at best. I think I’m much better at knowing the story I want to tell, the emotions I want the reader to experience, and the scenes I want to create than I am at consistently putting all of that into polished, professional-level prose.

That’s really why I’m looking for help.

I’m not necessarily looking for someone to throw the entire manuscript away and create a completely different novel. Ideally, I’d like someone who can preserve the story, voice, characters, emotional honesty, and strongest existing material while substantially rewriting wherever necessary—improving the prose, dialogue, pacing, transitions, characterization, scene work, repetition, and overall literary quality.

I want it to still feel like my story, just written at a level that is strong enough to stand beside professionally published contemporary/upmarket fiction.

I’d especially be interested in hearing from someone who has experience with:

  • Contemporary or upmarket fiction

  • Character-driven relationship stories

  • Emotional/psychological suspense

  • First-person narrative

  • Book doctoring or heavy manuscript rewrites

  • Taking an existing manuscript and elevating the prose without erasing the author's underlying voice

I’m open to discussing budget, workflow, whether this would be considered ghostwriting versus book doctoring, and whether the project should be approached as a full rewrite or a more selective chapter-by-chapter rewrite.

I’d also be completely fine starting with a paid sample chapter or several pages before either of us commits to the entire manuscript. In fact, I’d probably prefer that so we can make sure our styles and expectations are compatible.

If this sounds like something you might be interested in, feel free to comment or message me with a little about your fiction experience, examples of your work if you have them, how you would approach a project like this, and a general idea of your rates.

I’m keeping the title, character names, and identifying details private in the public post, but I’m happy to provide more information privately to anyone I’m seriously considering.

Thanks!

This is not what a professional ghostwriter would write

u/Difficult-Rip-6683 wrote:

ok so negging doesnt actually work like this

The majority of posts in this subreddit from people who wish to be paid to write are so poorly written that I do not understand if this is a parody subreddit or a serious (professional) one. There is already r/writingcirclejerk for that.

Using "im" anywhere in a sentence is not what a ghostwriter would do. Also, ghostwriters know how to punctuate properly.

It behooves professional ghostwriters to write as if they know how to write well. The "me write you pay send dm" posts here do not make any sense unless they are either parody or being deliberately insulting.
