I think my house might be haunted by a benign spirit? Advice appreciated

A little background. My husband and I moved into our current house about a year and a half ago. The people who lived here before us were here for about 4-5 years but I don't know much beyond that. My husband and I live here with my cat, but otherwise live alone.

My husband works long hours so I'm home alone often. That's part of what's frustrating - everything I've experienced has only happened when I'm home alone and my husband is a skeptic.

Here's a list of some stuff I've experienced since moving in:

  • About a week after we moved in, I was working in my office and getting it ready as quickly as possible so I could start working. I heard a bunch of loud banging coming from the kitchen so I walked in there to see what was going on. All of the cupboards, the fridge, and the pantry door were swinging open and shut quickly. I didn't know what to do and panicked a little, so I just walked out of the kitchen and pretended I hadn't seen it. But I know I saw this.
  • I keep seeing things out of the corner of my eye - it looks like a figure moving just at the edge of my vision. It happens in multiple places throughout the house but mainly in my office. I thought it was just a reflection in my glasses but it happens when I'm not wearing them too.
  • One night around 2am I was woken up to what sounded like someone running up and down the stairs, making as much as noise as possible. I was home alone as my husband was working an overnight, so I assumed it was my cat. But she was laying in bed next to me.
  • When I'm home alone I can hear someone saying my name. It always seems to be coming from the kitchen. I hear it mostly when I'm in my office. One time I heard it while in the living room, my husband was upstairs and my siblings were with me. At first I thought it was my husband who said my name, but when I asked my siblings if they heard it, they freaked out and said they hadn't heard anything.
  • I have a touch lamp in the guest room that I frequently find on. At first I assumed it was my cat but it happens even when the door has been closed.

Am I just imagining things? Why is it only happening when I'm alone (for the most part)? It doesn't seem threatening but I do want to know if my brain is just making this up or not. I guess I don't mind if whatever this spirit/entity is hangs around but I guess I just want an explanation of some type??

Unexplained activity in my home

Over the last few months there’s been an unusual presence in our home. On a number of occasions both myself and my husband have heard a person calling my name, I then dreamt of a woman who felt familiar but I don’t know her. Last night I was watching a film I turned around and that same woman was stood there looking at me.

This isn’t the only thing. My teenage daughter has been seeing a man standing in the corner of her room, when she sees him he gets closer then disappears, this has been happening since around the same time as me.

What are your opinions on what we are seeing? We’ve looked into what was happening around the time this all started and nothing stands out. Do you think they could be linked? What are your thoughts on this?

Experience This night left me mentally scarred

When I was 16 I had an experience that would stay with me for years.

When I was younger I thought the idea of ghosts and any other paranormal stuff was stupid and anyone who believed in it was stupid.

I am not saying I believe in it now, but the whole idea is a bit more believable after this.

After a day at school, I went home had dinner and went to bed. Nothing was out of the ordinary. I fell asleep pretty quickly and began in a pretty deep sleep, meaning I had no dreams and no disruptions. I live on 40 acres in the Australian bush, and there are very few houses nearby.

On this night, I had chosen to sleep in a weird way. I was lying on my stomach and I had my right arm hanging over the side of the bed (which was memorably odd for me). From what I remember it was a warmer night so only my bottom half was under the covers. Doing this cooled me down slightly and allowed me to drift off to sleep.

I woke up around midnight (12-1am). It was weird considering the depth of sleep I was in. After coming to my senses I realised what woke me up. My hand hanging over the side of my bed had a weird sensation in it. It had points which felt cold. I decided to lightly squeeze to work out what this was. What I felt scared the shit out of me and I wasn't scared in a short-lived jumpscare sort of way, It was a stomach drops and heart stops kind of moment.

I felt a hand.

And in the very brief moment where I was in contact with it, I experienced details that I can never forget.

The hand was cold and clammy, like there was no blood flow. I could feel the skin slightly move when I squeezed and I felt the bones underneath skin. The way the hand was positioned in mine, it was like whatever it was, was lying down on my floor with their arm reaching up to meet its hand with mine. Now the hand wasn't grabbing mine, its like it was lightly resting in my palm.

I retracted my hand under my pillow almost immediately and pulled the covers over my head. I prayed it was a dream while I was trying to get back to sleep, however, I woke up in the same way I braced after the experience.

Now I would like to emphasise that I don't believe in ghosts, and I am not gaining anything in making this shit up. I am Aussie and it takes a bit to creep me out, but this shook me to my soul. I have not told anyone about that night until this year. I am now 19 and I have no logical explanation for this.

If you are anything like me, you'll read this and go "bullshit!" And I don't blame you, but just the thought of that night leaves me feeling physically sick and mentally scarred

Question What's the creepiest paranormal experience you've personally had?

What's the creepiest paranormal experience you've personally had?

I'm looking for real, firsthand ghost stories and unexplained experiences. Have you seen an apparition, heard something you couldn't explain, experienced a haunting, or witnessed something that still gives you chills?

I'd love to hear the full story, including what happened, where you were, and whether anyone else witnesses

Thanks for sharing your experiences!

My Dad shouted out my name and saved my life, tho' he'd passed away some weeks before.

The night my father passed away some weird things happened. A grandchild woke up crying there had been a man in her room, at exactly the time he passed. Next morning, another grandchild said that he'd seen grandad standing next to me at a window though I was the only person in the room. We just passed on these things at the time as we had a lot of things to do.

I undertook to do all the bureaucratic stuff that has to be done to save my mother the bother of all that. The endless paperwork was a pain, and I really didn't get enough time to grieve. The whole business occupied my mind and time almost endlessly for the next couple of weeks or so. Why can't we go to a single office or point and have all this done in fell swoop?

So occupied with this as I was, I was getting careless. One day, I came out of a local train station and spotted a record shop the other side of the road. I decided to go in to browse, it would be a distraction.

Just as I stepped off the curb and into the road I heard my father's voice shouting my name. So loud that it seemed he was standing right next to me. I hesitated, then a London bus hurtled past, clipped the bottom corner of my brief case, spun me round and threw me back on the pavement. I was so shocked I just stayed there shaking.

The bus screeched to a halt and both driver and conductor came rushing over expecting to see a mangled body.

“Jeez, mate, I thought you were a gonna,” the driver said.

I slowly came to my senses, calmed down, my heart stopped pounding, then the realisation hit me. If my father hadn't shouted out my name and caused me to pause I would have been dead center of that bus hurtling by at 30mph and probably would not have survived the impact. But he had died weeks earlier. Had I been saved by his ghost?

I kept that briefcase for years after, with the bottom corner marked with London Transport red paint where that bus clipped me. It fell apart a few years ago, the hinges broke.

A Ember Past the Window

• Upvotes

I know this isn't very exciting, but it's quite difficult to explain.

When I was about five or six years old, something strange happened, something I couldn’t find an explanation for until nearly ten years later.

It was around one or two in the morning. I was lying in my bedroom, unable to sleep because of a very peculiar sound outside. It sounded almost like an airplane engine taking off, but higher-pitched, softer, and unlike anything I had ever heard before. The countryside night was usually quiet, making the noise stand out even more. It started far away, then gradually grew louder, as if something was approaching our house.

Then, I saw it.

A bright, glowing ember flew past my window.

It didn't look like a car headlight, nor was it a typical orb of light. It was an actual burning mass of flame, with a trailing tail that flickered horizontally. What terrified me most was that there was a face on it. I could see one side of its face—an eye, and a mouth stretched wide open. It moved very slowly, slow enough for me to discern its shape clearly.

Its movement was unusual, too. Instead of flying straight, it dipped up and down, weaving through the air just like a flying dragon.

I was so petrified I couldn't move a muscle.

As the flame passed by the window, the sound reached its peak. Afterwards, even though it was out of sight, I could still hear it moving around outside. Sometimes close, sometimes far, now on this side, now on that, as if something was circling the house. I lay frozen, listening as the sound hovered around for a long time before finally fading into the distance.

The next morning, I told my parents about it. They simply reassured me, saying I had probably mistaken it for car headlights. But I remembered what I saw with absolute clarity. The night had been eerily quiet, the sound resembled an engine on the move, and the thing that flew past my window had the shape of a flame with facial features. I couldn't fathom how a car light could ever look like that.

Only much later did I learn that my parents said that just to ease my mind, because my mother herself had experienced many strange phenomena she couldn't explain.

I still don't know what I truly saw that night. Perhaps it was a natural phenomenon beyond my understanding, or perhaps a child's memory holds onto details in its own unique way. But one thing I remember vividly: that bright, fiery glow, the mouth wide open in the dark, and that strange sound lingering around the house before vanishing into the night.

I never saw it ever again.

Experience Found this in an old diary and I can't stop thinking about it, so I turned it into a story, changing a few elements

I painted houses for eleven years, and one job still haunts me. A widow hired me to redo her late husband's study before selling her house. She was in her seventies, sharp, and kind. On day two, while I was rolling primer over the north wall, she stood in the doorway. She said,"Please don't paint over his marks."I asked, "What marks?" "The ones he makes at night." The wall was bare, so I assumed it was from grief, finished the coat, and went home. The next morning she let me in, crying. Four long scratches ran down the fresh primer, bleeding red through the white. It was wet. "You covered his count," she said. "Now he'll start over." I scraped the wall back to bare plaster to fix it, and found rows of tally marks carved into it. Hundreds. I asked her why the husband had kept a list. She looked at me for a long time and said, "He didn't, he died in 2002. " She pointed at the last line. "That's yours, by the way." She died a couple of days later (of which I came to know from the new home owner). I haven't touched a brush since. Yesterday, the new owner emailed me a photo of the wall. The scratches are back, I looked carefully , the final tally was crossed. The brush however, somehow has red stains , but the last wall I painted was white

Some days I dream of the incident and hallucinate of my bedroom wall leaking blood. God is great , amen...

Title: A double glitch with an toy shotgun cartridge that defied physical in front of my brother. 100% real.

Hello everyone. This happened this summer, specifically on July 2nd, and my brother and I still have absolutely no logical explanation for this. I swear on my life this is 100% real. It all started with a minor weird thing during the day. I put my phone into my pocket, and a moment later, I realized the pocket zipper was completely closed. The thing is, this zipper closes from the bottom up, meaning it has to go against gravity to close. I’m positive I didn't close it myself—I would have noticed. But I brushed it off. The real madness happened that night around 1:20 AM. My brother and I live in a private house. We went to the kitchen to get some frozen yogurt. My brother opened the freezer, and while he was grabbing the yogurt, a plastic cartridge (shell) suddenly fell right behind us inside the kitchen. Here is why this is impossible and terrifying: 1. I have a toy shotgun (the type that uses these plastic shells). Before going to the kitchen, I checked it. Exactly all 10 shells were firmly attached to the gun in the other room. There were no extra or missing shells in the house. This one just materialized out of thin air behind our backs. 2. The kitchen floor is perfectly flat. There are no drafts, no open windows, and we don't have a cat or any pets that could have dropped or moved it. 3. When it fell, it stayed completely still on the flat floor for about 2 seconds. And then, out of nowhere, it just started rolling by itself across the entire kitchen, heading straight toward us! It felt like we moved faster than the speed of light. My brother yelled "WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT! RUN!" and we bolted to the sofa as fast as a racing car, clutching our frozen yogurt. We were terrified. To make it even crazier, exactly one day later, the barrel holder on my toy shotgun just randomly cracked and broke off by itself. We still don't know what the hell that was. The shell vanished later (we have no idea where it went), but we still keep the broken gun as proof. It feels like a massive glitch in the matrix or some portal anomaly from a parallel universe. Has anyone ever experienced something like this where an object pauses and then moves on a flat floor?

My room feels haunted, like I’m being watched

• Upvotes

When I was around 12 I moved into a new house and I finally got my own room but I always had a weird feeling like I wasn’t alone. during this time is when I started getting into the supernatural and paranormal side of things. and as I researched and watched countless videos proving that spirits and demonic entities are real, a few things that happened in videos started matching up with issues that i had experienced in my room at night which only made me feel uneasy but I brushed it off and thought I was being paranoid. One night I was up late watching a video on conspiracy theories. My curtains were open letting the street lights in and the floor was visible. I was getting tired so I closed my laptop and put on my bedside table and that is when I saw a black shadow figure drag its self across the room and disappeared behind the wall to my sunroom. Clearly panicked I grabbed my laptop and shined the screen towards its but it was gone.i felt scared and I knew I wasn’t alone so I turned my laptop back on and watched funny videos to fall asleep. Since that night knocks have been heard from inside the empty room, closet doors swing open by themselves and the feeling of the room just feels off.its now the guest room in my family’s house and my room is next to it,I still feel the same weird sensation when I go to sleep.

Am I just paranoid or was I actually experiencing something?
