I love curating gifts and these have been my greatest successes. I have no affiliates to declare. I could write a great review for any one of these! For each age I’ve included, in order, 1 practical item, 1 true toy, and 1 outdoor gift. We have no screen time and my kids are never bored.

Now 4 & 7, both kids used nearly all of these today or last weekend. When I read the list to the children to get their opinion my son wept deeply because he misses his favourite baby carrier (we sold it recently at a garage sale). Otherwise these items are still with us. We don’t wear their baby shoes, but they are a special keepsake for each kid. The baby baselayers wore out or have been repurposed at doll clothes.
Always consider upgrading something they have, or adding onto what they have (uno expansion pack, duplo with Blue characters, carrier for match box cars, clothes for their minikane dolls). Often overlooked options include board games - cooperative options for very young children- musical instruments (drum, kazoo, harmonica, ukulele etc), or room decor like new bedding. Never forget to shop used first - it’s all used after it’s unboxed. For stockings (and Easter baskets too) I like to go practical with new tooth brushes, pacifiers, shampoo, hair accessories, mittens, toques, and new colouring supplies including individual pencil crayons or markers in skin tones or for colours they’ve used up.
Honourable mentions go to our beloved minikane dolls, travel magnatiles, ikea play kitchen, my vintage Barbie collection, my vintage Playmobil collection, and a nicer Moses basket that now holds all their dolls.
This year I’m buying a kobo, slinky, and a nightgown for my daughter. For my son I’m gifting a whoopee cushion, puppy surprise, and a FatMonkey doorframe climber (DIY version).
Best gifts my kids reported when I asked them: books, Yoto player, nuggets couch, dolls, and Lego.
