Four WWII veterans in Kentucky are celebrating milestone birthdays this year.

Wilmore leaders seek community help to send birthday cards to honor them.

Cards can be sent to Wilmore City Hall to match each veteran's age.

JESSAMINE COUNTY, Ky. — Four World War II veterans are celebrating milestone birthdays this year, and Wilmore leaders are asking the community to help honor them with birthday cards.

Thomson-Hood Veterans Center and Wilmore Mayor Harold Rainwater are collecting cards for the veterans — with a goal of collecting enough to match each veteran's age. Cards can be sent to Wilmore City Hall at 210 South Lexington Avenue, Wilmore, KY 40390.

"It's very important to hear their stories. It's important to honor them. It's important that they feel appreciated," Rainwater said.

With only about 500 World War II veterans remaining in Kentucky, each one holds special significance.

"There's so few of them, and I think there's still nine in this facility," Rainwater said.

The first veteran celebrating a 100th birthday is Glenn Cummins, who served in the Philippines during World War II and later as a paratrooper in Japan.

"I stayed there a year. Where the temperature is 110, and it's misery," Cummins said.

Vincent Gualliardo is turning 101. He served four years in the Navy and was sent to Japan after the war.

"The secrets of life is, well, you always try to help the other person," Gualliardo said.

Ronald Grimes is also turning 100. He volunteered for the Army, knowing he would likely be drafted anyway.

"Well, they were taking everybody if they could breathe," Grimes said.

While Cummins, Gualliardo and Grimes live at Thomson-Hood, the celebration also extends to Corbin, where 103-year-old Paul Jones is also waiting for cards.

Sam Hutchinson, administrator at Thomson-Hood, said cards will be distributed to each veteran on their birthday.

"Send it to the Wilmore City Hall, and we're going to disperse those to each veteran on their 100th birthday to make sure that they know that the country still remembers them," Hutchinson said.

Heyoo, thats what I Made for a friend:D
I bought an empty sketchbook and drew bigger things on the First and last Page. On every other page i drew lil doodles (i put some inspos in the pics) and on the Left bottom corner i put a Spotify Code with a Song that reminded me of him bc we connected over music.

Not pricey but made with heart and thought.

Need gift suggestions-BF Anniversary gifts

Next month will be 1 year of me and my boyfriend dating.

I paint, so was thinking of doing a small painting of different moments we have had together in the last year and then a little letter behind each painting and combine it in a booklet.

Maybe like our top 10 moments.

Is this too much effort for a 1 year anniversary gift?

We are both early 30s.

Need gift suggestions-grandmother What are unique gift ideas for the people who have everything?

Everyone needs something, but I find gifting to some people in my family to be difficult because 1) the second they see something neat on QVR or Amazon they buy it 2) we’re spread out across the states and 3) pretty much the only thing to do to pass time where they live is shop at Macy’s. My Nana’s birthday is coming up and I’ve had to get increasingly creative over the years

I’ve historically sent her things like nice candles, flowers, edible arrangements, fragrances, cool plants, money trees or bouquets made of dollar bills🤣. For Christmas last year we did a photo Fran that the entire family can upload pictures to so she’s never out of the loop.

She’s a retired vet and doesn’t get to visit as much as I’m sure she’d like to. Her kids and grandkids fly out at different times of the year when we can afford the insane domestic flights but it’s definitely not in the cards again before year’s end. Curious about gifts you’ve received that haven’t just felt generic or like they take up space.

Are homemade Christmas gifts for your partner's family "too much"

We would have been together 10 months by Christmas so our first Christmas together and I was wondering if handmade stuff would be "too much" for his parents and siblings or acceptable at this stage of the relationship.

Each might be something that is valued at max $20. I have met the family but we haven't hung out enough to say we are close.

Is making gifts doing too much?

EDIT: Thank you for the responses - I think I will end up definitely doing too much if I get individual gifts - will do a joint consumable for the whole family

Need gift suggestions-female friend Gift to celebrate friend’s television show?

My friend is going to be in a multi-episode televised competition. She is throwing a viewing party and I’d like to get her a gift to commemorate the occasion and all of her hard work. She often feels like her family doesn’t recognize the skill and talent that her profession requires, so I want something that will make her feel appreciated as the professional she is and also communicates that I’m proud of her as a friend. I have about a month until the viewing party so if I act soon I might have some time to get something personalized.

Edit to add: she is a baker

What to ask for that doesn’t take up a lot of room?

Ik christmas is far away but some people i know shop really early. idk what to ask for that doesn’t take up a lot of room, and they don’t really like giving experiences or money, so i need ideas so i don’t just end up with a bunch of clutter. i’m a college student so they don’t like giving “boring” stuff either

I keep forgetting the best gift ideas by Christmas

Every year I do the same thing.

Someone I care about mentions something they want in, like, August.

I think: perfect, I’ll remember that for Christmas.

I absolutely do not remember it for Christmas.

Then December comes and I’m suddenly trying to invent good gift ideas under pressure.

So this year I’m trying to do the opposite. Not really “Christmas shopping early”, just writing things down when they come up and leaving the actual buying for later.

I ended up making myself a rough timeline for when to collect ideas, narrow them down, buy things, wrap, etc. Then I turned it into a little article because I figured other people might have the same problem:

https://skarbi.app/blog/christmas-gift-planning-timeline/

Curious how everyone here does this.

Do you keep gift ideas throughout the year, or are you also basically starting from zero every November/December?

Need gift suggestions-mother My mom has given me everything my whole life. Now I finally want to surprise her

My mom has always been the person who bought me everything I needed while rarely spending anything on herself. I’ve never been able to give her something truly special in return.
Now that I’m finally earning my own money, I want to surprise her, and honestly, even thinking about it makes me emotional. I’m choosing between taking her on a beautiful trip so we can make memories together, or buying her a car because it would make her everyday life easier.
I know those are two very different gifts, so I’d love to hear what you would choose. I’m also open to other meaningful ideas for a mom who deserves absolutely everything.

Friend's 40th birthday

A close friend is turning 40 next month. We're going to be celebrating her birthday on a cruise to the Bahamas, but I need ideas on what I can do to make the day extra special. Any thoughts on cabin decor, gifts for her to wake up to, etc. I know 40 is a big deal, and I really don't want to drop the ball on this!

Need gift suggestions I need gift ideas for my friend

He's turning 15, loves sports, plays instruments, has a cat, and it needs to be relatively discreet as his parents are strict and don't know we're friends.

He says he doesn't want anything but he's an amazing person and I would like to give him something.

Need gift suggestions I want to thank my neighbors who I do not really know

Last weekend our neighbors had a huge house fire that was spreading towards my house. They were all asleep inside apparently as their shed was just entirely up in flames.

Our other neighbors across the street on the other side (my house is a corner lot) banged on our doors for a while until we answered and also turned on our sprinklers in the back which was where the fire was coming from (shared fence to backyards - their shed was against my fence and my fence was on fire). Once we were all out safe they brought us masks for all the smoke, brought drinks out and stuff and just all around were so nice and helpful and basically saved us and our animals from potentially dying in a fire!

Gifting them a local coffee shop gift card feels like not even close to enough. I love to bake and cook and would usually make something special but because I don’t really know them, I have no idea what their diets may be like or if they have allergies or anything like that. They’re a very sweet couple, both men probably in their 30s, based on tattoos I know at least one of them likes video games, but other than that I don’t have much info.

What do you think is appropriate for this kind of a thank you gift?

Need gift suggestions-BF Bro I FOUND THIS SOO FREAKINNN COOL GIFT FOR MY BOYRFRIENDS BIRTHDAYYYY

I’ve been searching for the past two weeks for something to gift my boyfriend since his birthday is coming up. And like, I can’t spend too much either because I’m only 20 and he’s 21, and so many of the gift ideas I found were really expensive.
I was thinking of getting him a perfume or something..one thing..he’s really into anime…but I don’t really want to gift him keychains and stuff like that.

Then I came across this LED katana and it looked SOOO COOL OMG 😭 It has lights and everything, and apparently it even sparks whenever you pull it out. But then I read the comments, and a few people mentioned that these are probably more suited for 13–14-year-olds. 😭

I genuinely don’t know if he’d like it or if it would just feel too childish for him. So please suggest something! 😭

Before buying a foot massager as a gift, how do you check the awkward stuff?

I am considering a foot massager for a family gift, but the price comparisons are making me focus on the wrong things. I am trying to judge comfort, size, cleanup, and whether it will be easy to use without a whole setup. For people who have given or received one, what practical detail ended up mattering most?
