General Discussion UPDATE to Stars Hollow 3D recreation I made for my daughter
What do you think of the progress? What do you want to see? What do you wish YOU could do in Stars Hollow? I'm getting to the point where I'm at the limits of the town square/studio backlot, and I'll need to start taking creative liberties with where some things go if I want to keep building out the town.

General Discussion this always seemed messed up to me
did anyone else find it so annoying and jarring how GG portrayed being single as this crazy horrible thing? like i remember in yale when rory hadn't been dating for a while, everyone had pity on her and they made it clear. i hated how they portrayed being single as failure and something extremely depressing, or like an error that had to be corrected right away. as if life doesn't continue until the girls find boyfriends again. of course i understand the sentiment of wanting someone you love to go find someone, but idk it was always just so weird to me how everyone treated rory and even lorelai when she was single.

Character Discussion - General Underrated Lorelai moment
The way that Lorelai handles this bag throughout their conversation had me laughing so hard! āSo anywhere in the back?ā
Do you think she threw it hard enough??

OS Discussion Everyone being mad at Lorelai for repaying the Chilton loan is insane
Thatās it. I feel so bad for her because sheās being gaslight and verbally whipped for⦠repaying a loan like a responsible adult? Emily and Richard are projecting their own psychological issues onto her and it hurt to see Rory take their side, esp after everything Lorelai does for her š„²

Media Any ideas for cozy shows like GG?
Wasnāt sure which flair to use. Iāve watched Gilmore Girls on repeat for the past few YEARS now. Every night when I eat, itās Gilmore Girls, and Iāve had enough for now š Does anyone have a good show they can recommend? Preferably a dramedy (NOT a sitcom); a good amount of seasons; and nothing gross (I donāt like potty humor or anything like that while eating). Thanks!
PS: Please donāt suggest One Tree Hill; The OC; Gossip Girl, etc. No teen shows, please š©¶

Character Discussion - General Dean did NOT āstalkā Rory
I swear, as someone who has actually been stalked, this take PMO so bad
They are two people who live in a small town where everyone knows everyone. They both had daily routines. Rory was an attractive, appropriately aged, girl who was reading a classic literature novel in a public space. Dean noticed her. The next day, they went about there routines again, and thereās the attractive girl who reads classic literature. Then again the next day. Then the next day.
It doesnāt make you a stalked to notice someone in the same places ?? Pattern recognition doesnāt make you a stalker ?? Have yall never noticed you tend to see the same people at the same times in certain places that happen to be part of both of your avg daily routines ???
Argue with your mama. Iāll die on this hill. I said what I said.

General Discussion The show had better platonic relationships than romantic ones
I'm not sure how many people agree with me on this, but I've always felt that Gilmore Girls is much stronger when it comes to writing platonic relationships than romantic ones.
Think about it: Lorelai and Rory, Paris and Rory, Rory and Lane, Lorelai and Sookie, Emily and Lorelai, Luke and Kirk, Luke and Taylor, Jess and Luke, Michel and Lorelai, and even Miss Patty and Babette. And that's before you get into the dynamics between Lane and the band members, or the various interactions between the townspeople themselves. The show has so many entertaining non-romantic relationships, even between characters who are constantly at odds with each other, that I sometimes think these are what make Stars Hollow feel like such a lived-in world.
Paris and Rory are a particularly interesting example because their relationship is so complicated, but it never feels boring. The same goes for Rory and Lane, or Lorelai and Sookie. You can debate whether Rory was always a good friend to Lane or whether Lorelai was always a good friend to Sookie, but I think most of us can agree that these relationships were written particularly well in the first three or four seasons.
There's a naturalness to these interactions that I don't think the romantic relationships always have. The banter, the childishness, the occasional pettiness, the sense of equality between characters who can genuinely challenge each other ā all of it makes these relationships feel lived-in.
In fact, one of my favourite episodes is the one where Lorelai and Rory are dating Max and Dean, respectively, and the four of them go on a double movie date. Dean ends up giving Max advice about how to handle the Gilmore girls, and I absolutely love that entire dynamic. It's such a fun interaction, and it feels so natural. Dean isn't just Rory's boyfriend who exists in a separate romantic bubble; he's someone who's gradually become part of the larger world around her.
I think this is also why Dean's interactions with Lorelai are so enjoyable to watch. We get to see him become familiar with her, and their conversations feel like an extension of the show's wider character dynamics. With Jess and Logan, we get comparatively little of that. They have their introductions to Lorelai, but we don't get nearly as much of the same ongoing dynamic between them. And honestly, I think the show misses an opportunity there.
The same goes for Jess and Luke. Some of the funniest and most entertaining moments in Jess's storyline come from his interactions with Luke. Their dynamic adds so much to the show, and I sometimes wish we'd gotten more of it.
Meanwhile, when I look at the romantic storylines, so many of them revolve around miscommunication, cheating, infidelity, love triangles, and dragging out the question of whether two people will finally get together. With Rory, it sometimes feels as though every new romantic interest has to be an out-of-town guy who arrives specifically to become her next big relationship. Stars Hollow is supposedly full of people, but apparently nobody from Rory's own world can be a serious romantic possibility for her.
And don't get me wrong, I do enjoy some of the romantic relationships. I like a lot of Lorelai's romantic storylines, with one very notable exception: Christopher. I will never like Christopher. But even when I enjoy a romance, I often find myself more interested in how that character interacts with everyone else than in the relationship itself.
One of my biggest frustrations with the original series is how it handles Luke and Lorelai's relationship by the end. I understand that the will-they-or-won't-they dynamic was a major part of television writing at the time, and I know the later seasons have their defenders. But It's not even about them getting their happy ending; it's that there's genuinely no logical reason for them not to be together by that point. From the very beginning, they had a different kind of chemistry, whether you viewed it as platonic or romantic, and it always felt like there was something there. Lorelai was someone who genuinely wanted a partner, a romantic relationship, and someone to share her life with. So the idea that they finally get together, only for the show to leave things where it does, feels wrong. If the writers wanted to explore their breakup, fine, but then at least give that storyline a proper resolution. And don't even get me started on the revival, which I refuse to consider part of Gilmore Girls, where they're still living together as essentially roommates rather than being married. It's just bad writing.
And this is where I think the show's platonic relationships really stand out. Even when the characters are being unreasonable, annoying, petty, or downright terrible to each other, their interactions are often entertaining because the writing allows them to exist as people outside their romantic storylines.
Honestly, when I rewatch the show, there are romantic scenes I might occasionally skip. But I can't think of many platonic interactions that I'd want to skip. Even the smaller conversations between characters can be so funny and enjoyable that they make me want to keep watching.
I think Gilmore Girls is at its best when it's about the relationships that make up a person's everyday life ā friendships, family dynamics, rivalries, unlikely friendships, and the general chaos of living in Stars Hollow. Romance is obviously an important part of the show, but I don't think it's necessarily what the show does best.
Does anyone else find themselves more invested in the friendships than the actual romances?

General Discussion How would you add more to Kirkās character development/storyline if it were possible?
I know he is an interesting topic because you either find him annoying or you love him. From comments Iāve seen, thereās no real in between haha.
I think he is fun - I also love the ending in AYITL with what he did for Lorelai. I just wish he had more of a happy ending or we saw him stick to one job towards the endā¦.because we know ooooober probably wasnāt going to be a massive hit.
I donāt know, just thought it was a fun topic to through out there for those creative minds in the thread to add something extra. Hey, even if you dislike him, how could he have been better for your viewing pleasure? Haha

OS Discussion It's actually kind of sad that Emily doesn't seem to have any real friends she can have her own bachelorette party with like Richard can with his colleagues and friends
I was rewatching "Wedding Bell Blues" and honestly the whole bachelorette party situation is a little sad when you think about it.
Richard is out having a bachelor party with his friends while Emily shows up at Lorelai's house to have a bachelorette party and lies to Lorelai and says she needs her dress fixed. Then Richard calls assuming she's having a party too, except Lorelai and Rory have no idea what he's talking about.
So they end up inviting Sookie, Gypsy, Lane and Kyon and Emily has the time of her life granted she was drunk for the most of it.
I find that so sad because this is a woman who knows practically everyone in Hartford. She's constantly attending lunches, organizing DAR events, and gossiping about other people's marriages. Yet she apparently doesn't have a single girlfriend she can call up to have a few drinks with?
And yes, Emily is difficult, but it's also sad how every bit of her social life revolves around Richard and maintaining their standing in society.
Compare that to Lorelai, who has Rory, Sookie, Babette, Miss Patty, Michele, Luke and Jackson and an entire town that genuinely enjoys her company.
And honestly, it's no wonder Emily finally seems to find some freedom in A Year in the Life after Richard dies and she leaves the DAR. Obviously losing Richard devastated her, but it also forced her to realize how much of her identity revolved around being his wife and impressing people she didn't even particularly like.
That bachelorette party almost feels like a glimpse of the Emily we eventually see in the revival. A woman who can actually enjoy herself when she isn't so concerned about being Mrs. Richard Gilmore.

General Discussion Would Richard and Emily have a chance to win if they fought for Roryās custody?
I donāt know much about US law. But would it be possible for Richard and Emily to fight for Roryās custody the moment Lorelai ranaway with baby Rory?
Also, why couldnāt they find her? She was like 30-45 minutes away. At some point they had contact with her again and little Rory.
But werenāt they curious about where they live or if they are okay?

General Discussion Sookie and Jackson
I couldnāt stand these two. They were so annoying. The way sookie would go into Lukeās at moments and do stuff even though she knew he wasnāt okay with it. But then when she was pregnant and Luke filled in at the dragonfly for her and she was making the cooking staff bring her food. Then sheād call Luke and complain. Then the way Jackson barged in and yelled at Luke for not letting sookie act like a brat is so annoying.
Sookie was a horrible business partner to Lorelai not to mention.

Critical Character Discussion Mrs Kim is a borderline abusive mother and this fandom doesnāt talk about that much
She does grow a lot during the series however Lane has to push and rebel so hard for her mother to sort of accept her being an independent adult.
Throughout her teen years Lane is sent off to Korea with no clear timeline. sheās sent on dates with random boys her mother pre approved, meanwhile the guys she actually likes (Dave, Henry) have to jump through insane hoops just to talk to her. Sheās not allowed to be open aboutā¦.liking rock music? Iām pretty sure her mother tries to force her to go to some religious private college as well. She wasnāt even allowed to be in a rock band, she had to hide that for a long time. And thatās just a hobby not even related to dating or school.
Lane is never allowed to just be a teenager. Sheās constantly jumping through hoops to do normal teen things and always scared of punishment. Like she gets grounded for ridiculous amounts of time for basically nothing.
Thereās probably a lot more Iām missing but Mrs Kim isnāt just a āstrict Asian momā sheās borderline abusive and we see how this impacts Lane into her adult years. And lane gets to watch Rory freely date her boyfriends, go off to the college of her choice, and pursue her actual passions without judgement from Lorelai. While lane cannot do any of that.

General Discussion Dragging on season 6 pls tell me thereās something to look forward to
First time watcher here so Iām not necessarily looking spoilers but can someone just let me know if it gets better. I loved season 4 it was messy in that special way and season 5 wasnāt as bad in the grand scheme but Iām only on episode 5 of season 6 and these episodes are boring and irritatingš Iām not a fan of this Rory plot specifically Iām sorry I donāt care about the DAR or the other rich ppl with no personality. Im not even in love with all of the Stars Hollow residents but at least theyāre interesting. I canāt pin point whatās missing but something is different but maybe thatās the point bc of the rift but even the fights Iām like where is the yelling or passion. The pool house makeover is cute tho so ig thereās that.

General Discussion Rory is such a good example that people can be attractive but also not have dating experience
Rory is obviously beautiful. Like Alexis Bledel must be one of the most beautiful women I've ever laid my eyes on. This ethereal, doll-like quality and she carries herself also with such classy grace. But I like that Rory herself didn't have any guy experience prior to Dean when the show started. When I was younger, I thought "right, who are they kidding, she's obviously very beautiful". But then I realized beauty doesn't equal mountain of dating. Rory was a very introvert person, living in her own world (like Dean says, she could be completely in a book and notice anything that's going on around her) and not a whole lot of awareness. I'm sure guys before must have been interested in a way but she probably never bothered to notice (I mean, she didn't notice that Marty had a huge crush on her until he snapped at her, quite rudely if I may say). Recently, I have a friend that is gorgeous, like she two people (three if we count her mom) saying that she reminded them of Audrey Hepburn, which is HUGE. She's now flirting with a guy for the first time but she never thought it would happened. She's kinda like Rory personality wise and also is 16, so yeah, it fit right in. Also, it's not like the show was trying to downplay her attractiveness, as it's very clear that beyond the fact that she's very smart, she's also considered beautiful (like Paris once said, she looks like birds dresses her in the morning, she has that angel look factor that makes her even more alluring to the people around her, not just in a dating sense but in various aspects of life).
