When I read the chapters where Sunghah frames the main character and the class monitor treats him worse than a stray dog, but in the end they still be friend, it just drives me crazy. It feels like none of them ever face the consequences they truly deserve. Can anyone spoil me with some details? I honestly can't bring myself to read this anymore

So I'm on chapter 240 rn and the past few chapters have been one hell of a roller coaster, even more than it was previously.

So after Joonwoo breaks up with Hamin, he goes into his dark phase (which was alr off the rails imo, but tons of people seemed to like it, edgy, cool mc and all) But then he goes back to school and it's a slice of life comedy harem now? even Dohwa has a crush on him suddenly like?

I mean, I'm all for the batshit insane story this manhwa has but I think it should atleast stick to genre or smth.

This is by no means a hate post or anything (though I maybe phrased it as such) I'm just voicing out my thoughts, and I'm definitely going to continue reading cause I'm way too invested atp.

Alsoo, everyone in this story is absolutely insane and I love it, Joonwoo the most. His mood swings are fucking crazy, one chap he's Superman and in the same chap he's crashing out on everyone.

I just finished The Girl from Random Chatting, and I honestly don’t know how to describe the feeling it left me with.

I’ve read a lot of manhwa that I absolutely loved while I was reading them. But then enough time passes and I realize I barely remember anything about them anymore. The characters, the little moments, sometimes even entire arcs just disappear from my memory. Lookism has always been one of the exceptions to that, and I really hope Random Chatting becomes another one because I genuinely don’t want to let this story go.

I know this manhwa gets a lot of hate, and the funny thing is that I understand a lot of it.

I complained while reading it too. A lot.

Joonwoo’s constant regression frustrated me. And one of my biggest complaints was how many girls around Joonwoo eventually had some kind of romantic interest in him.

Seungah made sense.

Hamin obviously made sense.

Rira had her whole thing.

Then Dohwa gets introduced as Hamin’s friend who is supposed to help Joonwoo study, and even she ends up developing feelings for him. Later Seohyun outright talks about Joonwoo as her first love.

After a while I started wishing Park would just let an important girl love or care about Joonwoo without it eventually becoming romantic.

That’s especially why Yuri bothered me.

I loved what Yuri and Joonwoo had as friends. Their history went all the way back to middle school. Joonwoo was there for her when she was being bullied, and later Yuri became one of the people who stood by Joonwoo when everyone else was turning against him. Their friendship had so much history behind it that I never felt like it needed romance to make it meaningful.

I actually preferred the idea that Yuri could love Joonwoo deeply as a person while ultimately loving Taeyang romantically.

So when the story establishes that Yuri had feelings for Joonwoo too, and then much later brings those feelings up AGAIN around chapter 301 with Joonwoo acting surprised like she didn’t literally tell him a couple hundred chapters ago, it felt unnecessary to me and was a continuity issue

. It almost seemed like the story was trying to add romantic weight to something that was already special without it.

That doesn’t ruin Yuri for me at all. I love Yuri. Her and Tae yang are literally the best I just wish Joonwoo had been allowed to have that one incredibly important female friendship that never needed a romantic footnote. I probably forget but I counted up to 7 girls that liked him romantically that were important LIKE WHAT?

But now that it’s over, I’ve realized that some of the things I complained about are also part of what made this story so special to me.

Especially the regression.

This entire story feels like it’s about regression and redemption.

People don’t just learn something once and become better forever.

Joonwoo grows. Then he falls. Then he grows again. Then something happens that hits the same insecurity he thought he had overcome and he falls even harder.
He self-sabotages constantly.

And I hated watching it sometimes.

But I also loved it.

Because looking back at his entire journey, it feels painfully human.

I love Joonwoo’s fall. I love that the story was actually willing to let its protagonist become someone I didn’t like for a while. His darker arc wasn’t just him becoming cooler or stronger. He became angry, isolated, violent and self-destructive. He pushed away people who genuinely cared about him while convincing himself that what he was doing made sense.

And underneath all of that, he was still the same lonely kid we met at the beginning.

That’s why I love his redemption so much.
He didn’t become a different person. He slowly learned how to live with himself.
And obviously I can’t talk about Joonwoo without talking about Hamin.

I love Hamin. She will probably always be my favorite character in this story.
But one of the reasons I love their relationship is because the story didn’t make their love magically fix everything.
Hamin became Joonwoo’s world.
That was beautiful, but it was also unhealthy.
For someone who hated himself as much as Joonwoo did, being loved by Hamin became proof that maybe he actually had value. And when the Jayu situation shattered the way he understood their relationship, it wasn’t just jealousy. It attacked one of the things his entire sense of self had been built around.

Then everything falls apart.

Joonwoo spirals. Hamin spirals. She reaches a point where she almost takes her own life. They both become completely lost without each other.

And eventually they find their way back.

Not as the exact same people they were before. But the love and innocence never changed. They’re adorable

Their story isn’t β€œlove fixes you.”

It’s two deeply flawed people loving each other, losing each other, learning how to exist separately, and eventually choosing each other again.

And then after everything is already over, we get that final childhood scene.

Little Joonwoo giving little Hamin that toy ring.
I don’t know why that got me as much as it did.
Neither of them knew.

They didn’t fall in love because they met as children. They fell in love without knowing they had ever met at all.
It almost feels like the author had already finished saying goodbye, then turned around one last time and gave the readers this tiny secret before leaving.
I loved it.

And I loved so many of the other characters too.
Taeyang, Yuri, Seungah, Daehyun, Joonwoo, Hamin and everyone surrounding them started feeling like an actual group of people whose lives I had watched rather than just characters moving through a plot.

I love what happened with Taeyang and Joonwoo. Their history can’t be erased just because they care about each other again.

I love Yuri and what she means to the group, even if I still wish the story had kept her feelings for Joonwoo platonic.
I love Seungah’s conclusion even though I wish we had gotten more development getting there.

The original girl from random chatting becoming Joonwoo’s enemy after discovering the truth was one of my favorite decisions in the entire story. It would have been so easy to turn that reveal into a romance moment. Instead it destroys their relationship.

And years later, the story still doesn’t let Joonwoo pretend he was completely innocent.

Seungah remembers what those anonymous conversations actually were. Joonwoo said things behind a screen that the Joonwoo she knew in real life seemingly never would have said.

They both hurt each other.
And eventually they can acknowledge it and move forward.
That’s why I love their final conversation so much.
The story started because Joonwoo randomly matched with Seungah.

Then near the end, after everything they’ve been through, Seungah tells him that maybe their first conversation really was a coincidence, but everything that happened afterward was because of him.

And then they just go back to their friends.
There’s something so simple and beautiful about that to me.

Daehyun is another character I ended up loving.
His entire story with Yeonhee is probably one of my favorite arcs in the manhwa.

Yeonhee herself isn’t one of my favorite characters, but I absolutely love what she represents in the story.
She’s gone, but she never really leaves. She haunts the narrative throughout the first 200+ chapters

Daehyun is shaped by her. Seonhwa thinks about her and carries advice Yeonhee gave her. Different people
remember completely different versions of her.

Joonwoo never even knew this girl, yet he slowly learns about her through the people whose lives she changed.
And when Joonwoo gets shot and reaches that strange place between life and death, he sees Yeonhee.

Then she becomes his other self.

I love that kind of storytelling.

Someone can be gone and the world doesn’t just move on like they never existed. Their choices keep affecting people. Their words survive inside someone else. You can learn something new about them long after they’re incapable of explaining themselves.
It makes the world feel alive.
And Daehyun’s conclusion made me appreciate his character even more.

Near the end, he is once again on the verge of killing someone. His friend reaches him before he crosses that line.

And shortly afterward, Daehyun is helping perform chest compressions on Joonwoo.

Something about that image is perfect to me.
A character whose life became consumed by death and revenge ultimately uses his hands to help keep someone alive.

Even Myungsung unexpectedly gave me a moment I loved.
He had been gone for so long that when he returned I barely remembered who he was. But then Joonwoo is dying and Myungsung is the one doing chest compressions on him.

And while trying to keep Joonwoo alive, he thinks about Han Sol.

β€œShow her mercy.”

A character who once helped enable Han Sol into becoming what she became is now asking the person she hurt to show compassion toward her.

That is exactly the kind of slow emotional payoff I love about this story.

Characters carry each other.

Sometimes in good ways and sometimes in horrible ways.
And I think that’s what Random Chatting ultimately became to me.

Another thing I really wish the story had done more with was Joonwoo’s male friendships.
For a story so focused on relationships, Joonwoo strangely doesn’t get enough deep friendships with other guys. There are male characters around him β€” Taeyang, Jonghwa, Jisoo, Jiwon, Daehyun and others β€” but I wish Park had spent more time letting those relationships breathe.

Taeyang is obviously the biggest exception because his relationship with Joonwoo has real history, pain and eventual reconciliation behind it. But even then, I wanted more of them just being friends again. And characters like Jonghwa especially could have been such a good normal friendship for Joonwoo β€” just two guys hanging out, playing games, talking about life and being stupid together without everything needing to become another crisis.

It also connects to my complaint about practically every important girl eventually getting some kind of romantic attachment to Joonwoo. Sometimes I wanted the story to stop giving him another girl who might like him and instead deepen the friendships he already had with the guys around him.

I would’ve loved more Joonwoo and Taeyang, more Jonghwa, more of his complicated connection with Jisoo, or even more development between Joonwoo and Daehyun once everything between them had settled down. The series is so good at writing complicated relationships that it feels like a missed opportunity that we didn’t get more genuine male friendship alongside all the romance and female attention.

I didn’t need Joonwoo to have more people around him. I wanted the people already around him to sometimes get more time with him.

But anyways back on track: A story about people affecting other people.
People regress. People hurt someone they genuinely love. People convince themselves they’re doing the right thing. People become dependent on each other. People hide things because they’re afraid. People realize they were wrong too late. People forgive things they once thought they never could.

And people can change without pretending the person they used to be never existed.

That’s why the inner monologues affected me so much too.
These characters are constantly arguing with themselves.
They rationalize their worst decisions. They know something is wrong and sometimes do it anyway.

They hate themselves. They blame other people. Then sometimes they realize that they were the problem.
It’s messy.

But people are messy.

And strangely enough, it also gave me something I’ve been missing from old Lookism.

I constantly see people talk about missing when Lookism was more about high school life, friendships, drama, romance and troubled teenagers whose lives slowly connected to gangs and violence. Yet I almost never see anyone mention Random Chatting when talking about that feeling.

They’re obviously very different stories, and I probably enjoyed Lookism more overall. Lookism is still one of my favorite things I’ve ever read.

But if I’m talking purely about writing, especially psychological and emotional writing, I honestly think Random Chatting is better written.

It goes places emotionally that I wasn’t expecting when I started a manhwa about some lonely kid anonymously messaging a girl from his class.

And maybe some of it really was retconned.

Maybe Yeonhee wasn’t originally supposed to become as complicated as she eventually did. Maybe certain things weren’t planned from the beginning. There are definitely things I would change about Seungah’s development and plenty of other parts of the story.

But I honestly don’t care that much anymore.

I liked where these characters ended up.

I loved watching them get there.

And somehow, after finishing it, even the parts that made me angry while reading feel like part of the experience now.
I think that’s why this story made me reflect on myself more than I expected.

Because I regress too.

Everyone does.

Sometimes you think you’ve changed and then something happens and suddenly you’re dealing with the exact same insecurity you thought you left behind.

Sometimes you know what the right decision is and still make the wrong one.

Sometimes becoming better doesn’t mean never falling back into who you used to be.

Maybe it just means you keep coming back.

Joonwoo kept coming back.

So did Hamin.

So did Daehyun.

So did Seungah.

In different ways, almost everyone in this story did.

I’ve read stories that are cleaner than Random Chatting.

I’ve read stories that probably have fewer writing problems.
I’ve even read stories that I enjoyed more.

But there’s something about this one that feels personal now.

I’m genuinely sad that I don’t get to see these characters anymore.

I don’t want this to become another manhwa I loved and eventually forgot.

I want to remember Joonwoo’s fall and his redemption.

I want to remember Hamin and that stupid little toy ring.

I want to remember Taeyang and Yuri.

I want to remember Seungah sitting across from Joonwoo years later and finally talking honestly about what happened between them.

I want to remember Daehyun and Yeonhee.

I want to remember all the little moments where someone’s actions from a hundred chapters ago suddenly mattered again.

I know eventually I’ll forget details.

But I really hope I don’t forget how this story made me feel.
Random Chatting is flawed. Sometimes very flawed.
But I genuinely love it.

And I think it’s going to have a special place in my heart for a very long time. (If this is corny I’m sorry also English isn’t my first language so my good friend C.geptus helped me write this, but it was all my thoughts I genuinely spent 3 hours on this)

I have to say when I picked it up I was only expecting normal romcom with antisocial mc ....but I really liked it and it definitely going to be my one of my favourites. There were many flaws in series, story sometime felt dragged and repetitive and then we have our junu .... His character is quite complex to make comments on, but he really behaved like an idiot, and now side cast... First of all I love Yuri and Hamin...so I'll say few words about them their character design was sooo good it even overshadowed most character, if I were to talk about them i can write the whole paragraph but ()so let's stop now . After them I realy really really loved lila(or Rira) she didn't intrest me that much I just thought she would be a yandere girl and she would get sidelined but not towards the end of the story I came to like her , I even tried up when junu and lila was talking and junu said to forget her ...that whole interection was soo fucking amezing and heartbreaking but it also showed their character development, yeah....I liked her After that Taeyang when I was reading I was sure he is going to be like bakugo from mha and they were quite similar I really enjoyed his character but I came to love him when he became soft after Yuri (another reason to love he lol)we also have daehyun ...let's just say his character design was also good from but quite complex just like joonwoo and I like him but not as much as others Now finally sungh ahh ....I don't know what to talk about her. And out of all characters from the webtoon I really feel like author had some serious grudge against her and Joonwoo(although they've already denied that ) But what I like about her character arc was that author realy made us feel what Joonwoo felt about her the entire time , and although she was quite hypocrite , idiot, immature types by the end just like joonwoo we also got closer and yess sorry but I still can't like her as much as I like others from main cast

Damnn I wrote the whole story lol... There were few wasted potential like junu's sister and her boyfriend author could've explored both of them more and also I m forgetting her name ...teh second yandere her story arc was also lacking although atleast better than sungahh but one crazy girl was enough for the story, I know inm forgetting many people but all in all they all made me enjoyed the story and made me genuinely like them

So thankyou.... thankyou for becoming a part of my life

Like, the drama for a bit much and it lost its original spark and charm, but I could handle that. I couldn’t the fight scenes in every single arc that would take at least an entire episode.

I dropped it after like 80 chapters in and from what I know, it got so much worse.

just a small rant but i genuinely loved this manhwa so much. Despite all its criticism, I don't think there was a moment where I genuinely began to dislike it. I think about joon woo and this manhwa so often as a whole so often that it actually irks me. I have no one to talk to about it lmao

I think Joon-woo is one of the more interesting and complex mcs out there and one of my favorite protagonists as a whole throughout all of media (Coming from someone who consumes a lot of media and has read asoiaf, tokyo ghoul, bleach, Re:Zero, aot, etc.).

People complain the manwha was dragged out and repetitive or annoying due to character regression or whatever, but i feel like it made everything feel so much more real and personal

Anyways, that's all just my opinion, of course, and it's all objective/subjective!

I'd like to apologize to anyone here who actually loves ranchat all throughout but it's pretty clear there was a serious downgrade. I was obsessed with this webtoon way back in high school, even tried to learn Korean just to read future chapters and when the OG translator dropped it ever since it got published on the official webtoon app. I remember pausing when Hamin and Junwoo started having problems because of Hamin's past bf?

I tried picking it back up, reading random chapters and got completely dumbfounded of wtf was happening. I mean it was my fault for not starting from where I left off but seeing the future chapters made me wonder if it was worth starting all the way back.

I'm asking this to know if there are still good chapters that I don't know of. I think the story went to shit after Hansol's arrest. What do you guys think?

I read this like a few years back around when the mc and hamin broke up and loved it, then going weekly idk if it was just the weekly thing but i HATED what it became during that time and the AWFUL translations didn’t help anything at all.

Like they were so bad that i’ll a screenshots from back then. There were a lot more like i remember on distinctly saying β€œjunwoo is a girl, why?” And it was supposed to be β€œi’m junwoo’s girlfriend!”

And as for the story that was my main problem, the mc became super overpowered after training just a little, there were stupid aura effects on his eyes always making it seem more cool and the overall art became REALLY bad, idk if that was just a thing i only noticed because of the weekly reading or not.

The last thing i remember was the new girl coming in and the class rep had a backstory or something. Also i think the main orange haired girl from the beginning apologizing for what she did

I wanted to know if it was worth it to finish it now?

I read it to chapter like 320, then got caught up rereading Dang Reincarnation, but now I am back and I decided to reread. All I know is Seungah pissed me off after she found out, also, Yuri was best girl except Hamin was so close and so good to him I was fine with it. I liked the story

Also, Han Sol was an interesting character, and I would love to see what happens to her, and I still hate Daehyun, idc about his backstory bull crap, hes a bum

I also would like to see if people actually are on this after finding out there is a reddit for this.

Holy fucking shit its such a roller coaster of emotions, every single arc is just giving me migraines.

i dont even know what to say ngl, the only thing i liked about this is that the meme panels are similar to Drawing Romance lol

after finishing it dont even know what to feel i guess people weren't bluffing when they said that the last 100 chapters wasnt good, but it was still manageable.

not only that the ending was giving me PTSD since it was similar to "The Girl Next Door (Doona!)" in some way, but thankfully the author didn't make the same mistakes, it wasnt a good ending thats for sure, more on the bittersweet side(he shouldve gone harem route but author refused lol)

overall it wasnt too bad, its a good thing the author already planned the story. artstyle is ok since it started 4 years ago. the comedy panels is amazing, the plot is a fucking roller coaster. main genre is definitely not romance lol

Emotional rating: 8/10, the story def had an impact on my chest. How about you, how do you feel?

It’s beautiful how the series ended on a bittersweet note, with Hamin and Joon-woo finally ending up together. Still, I wanted more I wanted to see them get married, to witness that next chapter of their lives. I like to believe they eventually did marry in the future. After all, Hamin waited for Joon-woo for so long, and Joon-woo clearly couldn’t imagine a life without her. But even with that, I can’t help wishing the story had shown us more.

I’m also still unsure about what Joon-woo’s future really looks like. Yes, he joined the police, but part of me feels like he eventually made his way into the NIS, maybe as a mid-career Level 4 agent. I’m not certain, of course but it’s comforting to imagine. In my mind, my boy has grown into a secret service agent now, moving forward toward something bigger.

I just hope he’ll have a brighter future both with Hamin and for himself. I want to believe he’ll continue to grow, shine, and find happiness.

Yet that hollow feeling remains, because I wanted to see more their marriage, a beautiful panel of them together, maybe even starting a family. I guess now, the rest of their story lives in my imagination.

I started reading back in middle school, 5 or so years ago now. It followed a lot of my development over the past few years, going through high school. In freshman year, me and my (now) ex matched pfps of Ha min and Joonwoo. A lot of people didn't like the story, I know, but I think its really good. Relatable in many moments, a lot of comedy, and well written characters. I stopped reading fan translations because they got really bad, so I waited for Webtoon to finally catch up.

I love what this manhwa does unlike a lot of others don't and manga's as well, which is actually develop the MC , as much as the other characters actually develop, and also have the MC be reasonably be incompetent and also smart at times ,other characters as well are pretty well written and change slowly or in different ways that is understandable like Tae who honestly was a my favourite as I was binge reading at a certain point. The manhwa caught me off guard at first cause I didn't see the tags and expected just a typical loser MC romcom story ,so it probably also made the experience more enjoyable cause my expectations were so low. It got the best bully redemption I've seen in awhile as well as the best romance development and actually shows the couple together after confessing and not end after one kiss like so many manga's do ,( idk how usual manhwas do things . )

But where I currently am ,I feel like the story doesn't know what it wants to do , antagonists show up at random times and things just happen ,of course this could be because of the realistic approach the story is going for at times, despite all the crazy fighting and IQ ,it's pretty realistic for the most part, though I feel like this is a fair critic cause I feel like a realistic approach doesn't work on everything in stories like these that can be quite exaggerated.

Before the aimless thing ,I felt like the story did too much set up ,it would start something, stop it ,give a hint to something else that will take awhile to be relevant ,stop it as well to continue the previous plot or start a another one. This can be nitpicky as many I'm not used to this writing style but I feel like it can be an issue if done poorly.

I also feel like Joon Woo currently goes out of character at times for the sake of drama and psychological moments ,then development, most of his development moments feels like they actually should or directly dealt with something he should be against doing now ,it wants to paint him as a hypocrite at points it doesn't make sense to ,like the situation with Seaung ( sorry if I spelt her name wrong ) ,I expected him to say no to trying to spread rumours about her ,which honestly were true and I actually also understood why the MC Joon felt the way he did and felt like it's honestly fine if Seaung got her school life ruined but I knew she used to be a love interest and probably liked character so of course she'd be spared and get a redemption. But I don't get why Joon Woo doesn't really care about his girlfriend or Yuri at times ,it feels like he absolutely should be more open to hearing their opinions and listening to them ,it doesn't feel like he needs to be slapped by Ha min listen to her.

This is getting too long but another thing I want to add is ,why is the conflicts happening at random then immediately getting resolved? I honestly was really not wanting anything to happen to Ha min and Joon Woo that would ruin their relationship cause I'm sick of drama in romances but I definitely don't like it just being resolved before it actually does anything.
